First time buyers

As first time buyers we were really delighted by Roberts crossley solicitors. We've been assigned to Lily as our case manager. She was very helpful and professional throughout the whole process. Highly recommend, it would be a pleasure to do business with them again.

Conveyancing as it should be in the 21st century!

At the start of our house move journey I half-jokingly remarked to our estate agent that the conveyancing profession in the UK needed a disruptor such as Amazon to enter the market and turn it on its head, by doing things differently – and much better – than the industry norm that those of us who have bought or sold houses before have come to expect. To me there seemed to be so many opportunities, some of it quite “low hanging fruit”, to work more efficiently and deliver service improvements to the client, including through better use of technology. One gets the impression from many conveyancing firms that nothing has changed, that this is a profession stuck firmly in the 20th century.

We were delighted to find that Roberts Crossley (who we stumbled across looking on Trustpilot for top-rated solicitors) have already achieved many of the new ways of doing things that a good market disruptor might deliver. They make great use of technology to achieve efficiencies (and cost savings for the business too, I’m sure), they are accessible and communicative, being quick to respond to emails, and often your conveyancer will even answer the phone if they’re available when you call, or if not call you back later. They are supportive, seeming to actually ‘get’ that you are the client, who at the end of the day pays their wages – this should of course be the norm, but sadly it’s not. And they are efficient and work much quicker than one is accustomed too from prior experiences – and in particular, recognise times in the process when this might be especially important. I particularly liked that they have an option for an expedited service offering fast, guaranteed response times should this be needed, for a very reasonable additional fee.

Ben who gets regular favourable mentions in reviews here was our paralegal; he certainly delivers the excellence as described above, and is very personable and approachable. We had a slightly more complex process than the norm, selling two homes separately owned to purchase our first home together, plus as we were buying a new build that was also more complex and time-critical, due to the slightly unreasonable demands developers typically place on you. With Ben we felt in a very safe pair of hands throughout, even more so when having secured an excellent plot for our new build, one of our buyers wobbled and withdrew, which for a while was in danger of putting the purchase we thought we’d secured in jeopardy. During this critical time Ben could not have been more supportive, as we worked to put in place a ‘plan B’ to ensure we didn’t lose our new dream home!

When I write such a glowing (and deserved) review I like to pause and ask myself, is there anything the company could improve? The only thing I can think of, on occasion in the process we stumbled upon what was no more than a careless, silly (and unforced) error in something that had been sent to us. Each was relatively trivial, but given all the positives we experienced as detailed here, we did find this a little surprising and unexpected. We’re not sure if these mistakes were made when rushing, and the odd one will always slip through. But if a way could be found to tweak up the attention to detail for the small things as much as the big and important things, that would only further enhance the company’s obvious pursuit and delivery of excellence.

Jonathan at Robert’s Crossley’s Solicitors is great

I have used Robert’s Crossley’s Solicitors a couple of times now, once for a purchase and then for a sale, and Jonathan Davey has always been prompt and proactive in dealing with my case. The communication is excellent and the cost is competitive.
I would definitely recommend Jonathan and RC Solicitors.

Helped first time buyers

As first time buyers Jonathan made the entire process very easy and stress free! Emails were responded to in good time and he always picked up the phone. Our estate agents even commented on how quickly he got everything into place for us. He was amazing at answering any questions we had and making sure we understood everything at each point, couldn’t fault him and very happy with our purchasing experience. Thank you Jonathan! We did have issues with a deed of trust, not handled by Jonathan but these have since been well resolved by the company so we are happy overall

Leasehold Flat Sale

The sale of my leasehold flat took longer than expected due to non-simultaneous additional questions from the buyer's solicitors, but Lily handled it all very well and kept me updated throughout. Would use again.

9 years later

I used Robert Crossley for conveyancing 9 years ago. I am now in the process of selling again and found that they didnt do the job right! Documents which should have been checked and provided weren't, there were errors in my title deeds which Robert Crossley didnt notice and as as result I have had to take out numerous indemnity policies.

My current solicitor tried contacting Robert Crossley several times to see if they had any records to help, but received no response to emails and calls were not returned. What credible csolicitor ignores another?!

Clearly corners were cut and mistakes were made, but my solicitor advised me that Robert Crossley made so many errors and people need to know about their shoddy service.

Failed to compensate for their error.

During a conveyancing process, a mistake was made and my address was given to another company incorrectly. As a result, through no fault of mine, the company issued invoices which I didn't receive and I was charged late payment fees of £1435, which I had to pay. Mistakes happen, which I understand, but I asked the partners of Roberts Crossley for compensation and I was totally ignored.
Not acceptable professional or moral standards, especially from a legal firm.
