I was told that my old gas combi boiler was at the end of its long life. I had read extensively about air source heat pumps and experiences and opinions were mixed. Some people reported cosy homes with a nice even heat and others had bad experiences with systems unable to heat their houses and lukewarm showers. Added into the mix was that my house was built in the 1890's from Yorkshire stone so not a modern home. I do have good loft insulation and wet underfloor heating on most of the ground floor which is insulated underneath and double glazing, and a 1970's thin version of kingspan in the walls. I had three home visits firstly a visit to explain how ASHP work and what would likely be needed depending on the heat loss survey, then a heat loss survey, then another visit to tell me exactly what was needed, what the running costs and savings are likely to be, to give me a quote and the opportunity to go ahead or forget about it.
During this process everyone involved was very kind and considerate and knowledgeable.
I would need a 14kw Mitsubishi Ecodan pump and 7 new radiators for my house with four large bedrooms and two bathrooms.
I was very nervous about this big leap of faith, the extra expense and wondering if those who had described their homes as cosy didn't like to be as warm as I do. I was scared of it being a very expensive mistake that I would regret. Everyone was so enthusiastic and confident that it would work I was worried that they were not impartial. However, I decided to take the risk.
On installation day a problem arose in that the pump and cylinder could not be where I had thought was suitable and had been agreed by all as ideal. The cylinder was going to be too far from the boiler and there was no way that the pipework could be run between them. The installers instead suggested that the pump should be placed in a cage high up on the side of the house. This would be visible from the road and the neighbours would see it from their windows and on an old stone built property I felt would be an eyesore. I felt a bit under pressure to agree to this as the only solution but fortunately Jodi from Renewfuel asked design and installation expert Ryan to come and take a look. After a lot of looking round the house and thinking of different possibilities Ryan asked me how much I used the bath in the downstairs bathroom. I was planning to have it taken out and a shower installed and so a solution was found in that the cylinder could be put in that room and a cupboard put round it, still leaving room for a large shower. The pump could be put in the originally planned place around a corner in the back garden. I am so glad that Ryan was so keen and determined to find a better solution.
The team came back the next day and set about enthusiastically making it work, even though it was more work for them and quite an unusual and difficult installation. The whole process took four full days. They left at 7pm on the fourth day having worked really hard from 8am each day. They were so kind and considerate throughout the process, were very skilled at what they do. I can't praise Callum, Phil and Owen and Neville the electrician enough.(also Neville's apprentice whose name I've forgotten, sorry.)
On that first night I turned on the heating. It was a slightly chilly 8C outside. All the rooms in my large house were nicely warm within two hours, using 11kw electricity, less cost than my gas boiler. The shower is nice and hot.
It's still a learning curve for me to get the best out of it and it remains to be seen how it performs through a cold winter. I will update afterwards.
The only criticism I have is that I feel it should have been obvious from the start to experienced people that the placements would not be possible, but I still think it's worth five stars.
I usually hate doing reviews and sorry that it's so long but I'm sure many of you are nervously wavering over this decision and this may help.

The RenewaFuel team (3) have just left after installing my air-source heat pumps over two days. They were efficient, knowledgeable and very pleasant. They replaced 7 radiators, installed the heat pump in a convenient part of my rear garden (adjoining my house), and the hot water cylinder system in my loft. My whole experience with RenewaFuel has been smooth and seamlessly efficient (only 16 days since first contact to complete installation). I can now get my gas meter removed, and together with my solar panels and heat pumps, I'm predominantly renewable and in control. Super job, RenewaFuel!

The decision to have a heat pump was a leap in the dark. I was aware of negativity surrounding heap pumps, but the advice offered was attractive and I chose well. The men worked efficiently . they carried out the work cleanly and were personable.Looking back I chose well and have high praise for the company I chose.As for the heat pump it fulfills all my expectations in keeping my home warm and the water nice and hot.When I have needed follow up advice the company has been helpful at all times. The leap in the dark with this technology has paid off because the company I chose was first class.

We had a heat pump installation completed around 1 year ago. We were very impressed with both the installation quality and the co-ordination between the office and installation team. We were kept up to date throughout. We recently had an issue with our controls, ie we found that it was not located in a position that was easy to access. It wasn't picked up originally because we had no cause to use it. However as soon as we identified it as a possible problem the Renewafuel team were on hand to resolve, they were very accommodating and re located the controller display to a more accessible position, no issues no complaints. We would have no hesitation in recommending Renewafuel Home Innovations Ltd, they offer first class service, with technical knowledge and caring staff.

We have had our teething problems with our installation, never seemed to see the same person twice when discussing the problems that we have had with obtaining planning permission. However, we have completed stage 1 of our project and have batteries and EV charger all installed - now we wait for the new overnight charging rate to reduce our energy bills.
We are still waiting for our planning permission for the solar panels, and then we will save money!
