I sent two phones to this company in August and did not receive a single payment until I suggested I was going to make a personal visit to their offices. Damon (MD according to companies house) responded saying he needed my google email and password to unlock these phones even though I factory reset before sending. I was 1xPixel 2 and 1xGalaxy S9 down. I ended up getting payments in dribs and drabs and not to the full amount. Fully untrustworthy company with no intention of paying what is owed without endless chases.
Sent 4 i phones and an iPad in April 2019 and was given a price . Sent to them as arranged and never heard off them again . Opened a case with trading standards . Sent various emails and also messages on Facebook page . All messages read by this so called company director and then he blocked me from sending any more . Trading standards found it was a false address above a chip shop AVOID AVOID AVOID
I was selling 2 phones to PhoneConvert. Hermes confirmed they were delivered to the company on February 12 (including signature), but I STILL 2.5 months later have yet to be paid despite numerous emails to the company.
First they claimed they never received the phones (sorry guys courier has proof) and now it's been over a month since they said they would pay out what they owe me, but still nothing.
I normally hate to leave negative reviews on anything, but these guys seem to be actual criminals.
Avoid!!! Posted iPhone 7 on 8th November. Company received on 14th, offered a reduced price on 26th November which I accepted immediately. Still awaiting payment even though email was received on 29th November advising it was made. Had a couple of responses via a previous review on here (trying to resolve, yeah right) - still no further forward. Guys behind this should be locked up to say the least!
********AVOID AVOID AVOID ********
I have been trying to get the cost of my mobile phone out of this Company for years. Finally a letter from Trading Standards saying they are being prosecuted.
I was emailed by the 'managing director' (if there is one) telling me that Phone Convert were entering into a Court case with Hermes the courier for losing phones.
I don't believe this or anything they tell me as I have checked with Hermes who say there is no 'Court case' pending.
Avoid them at all cost
I would advise anyone thinking of using thIs company to go for a lie down in a dark room until the thought passes. Absolute scam artists, any positive reviews must’ve been written by friends and family members as too many people have encountered the same problems with regard to non payment. I’ve had to contact Action Fraud/Police and report my phone as stolen as payment wasn’t made and there was no reply to emails. When I informed Phone Convert of this, strangely enough, partial payment was made the next day, with a promise the rest would be paid the next day stating the “poor service was due to them being in the process of closing the business and they had issues due to China” or some such nonsense. That was on the 18/2/20 and I’m still waiting for the rest of payment, couple of emails since with the usual excuses. I’ve basically written off the rest of the money as life is too short to be wasting time and energy in dealing with the likes of a company like Phone Convert.
Interesting that Phone CONvert are reporting the negative reviews. How about trying this; do the decent thing and pay the money that people are owed, then maybe, just maybe, you wouldn’t get negative reviews.
My old Iphone had been sent to these bandits in October and I accepted the reduced offer of £40.00. Payment hasn't been received after numerous emails to them and promises of payment being sent. Therefore, they have STOLEN my phone as they will not return it !!!!
DO NOT transact with this company.
Don’t use this company. Agreed a price for my phone which I sent to them. On receipt of my phone they contacted me to say the battery was faulty, so the price would be reduced, if the price wasn’t acceptable they could return the phone. I decided to have the phone returned and they agreed send the phone back.
Four weeks on and I’m still waiting for my phone, they told me that they posted it. I asked for a tracking number for the parcel so I could trace it. After the initial e-mail stating they would send me that information, I’ve heard nothing. This ‘Family run business’ ignore all phone calls or e-mails so I’m assuming they’ve stolen my phone.
I have now reported to action fraud and the police force in Devon and Cornwall and about to start a small claims case against them.
UPDATE
Phone Convert have contacted me asking for my bank details, so thay could pay me, and guess what I'm still waiting!
TERRIBLE!!! WOULD HAVE GIVEN NO STARS IF I COULD. FRAUDSTERS. PHONE SENT MONTHS AGO NO PAYMENT NOT ANSWERING EMAILS NOW. HAVING TO GO THROUGH SMALL CLAIMS AS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE.. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
If I could have given no stars I would have. Sent phone off then the usual story "oh there's a fault - revised offer" Which I declined and asked for the phone back. Nothing yet - DO NOT REPLY TO EMAILS - NO PHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT - COMPLETE FRAUDSTERS -DO NOT USE
Did not even want to give one star. Do not use this company it is a scam they have had my phone for five weeks now and cannot get in touch with anybody they have been removed from Twitter and facebook I have now reported to the police and action fraud hopefully this company will be shutdown so nobody else will be scammed like this.
One week ago they said payment had been made for my phone. Nothing has been received despite me following up with emails. I will be reporting this company for fraudulent activity. Cant believe I have been conned like this.
UPDATE - After posting the review below, I emailed Phone Convert to advise them of the review, whereupon I promptly received the £80 outstanding.
------------
Phone Convert has taken my phone and not paid me any money - and now aren't answering emails or calls!
I sent them my phone on 15 Jan. I agreed the final price of £80 with them on 21 Jan, and the same day they told me they had made a transfer of funds to my account. The money has never arrived and, despite being reasonably communicative up to 21 Jan, they have since gone quiet...
Other TrustPilot reviews suggests I am not the only one they have scammed in this way. I have reported them to Action Fraud and Trading Standards, along with their company director.
My experience of Phone Convert Ltd was poor in the extreme. They finally paid me a reduced sum for my phones but only after I had to threaten them with legal and other reputationally damaging action. I would urge you to use extreme caution before you use their services.
Despite having now been paid, I'm still only giving 1* because, in my opinion, there are no circumstances where you should have to fight to get paid what you have agreed for the trade in of your phone and, based on other reviews on this site, I am completely sure that had I not fought hard I would still not have been paid!
For background, my initial experience with Phone Convert Ltd started on 15 December and was positive. Their their website looks professional and official, they made a good offer (£235 per phone) and their initial service was good. They quickly issued trade in packs for my wife and I to send the phones (2 x iPhone 8 in excellent condition) back to them. Since we were now in the run up to Christmas, I delayed sending the phones as the T&Cs in the trade in pack stated that the offer was valid for 30 days from initial registration. The packs were nothing more than a plastic bag and a Hermes return label so, having exchanged emails with Phone Convert in early January, I elected to use my own packaging and sent them off with Royal Mail special delivery to ensure tracking and in-transit insurance. They were despatched on 13 January and receipt was confirmed by Royal Mail tracking on 14 January.
Then the problems started! Initially Phone Convert sent an email stating that there was a problem with the trade in because I had sent the phones more than 10 days after the initial offer was made, even though the trade in pack paperwork clearly states that the offer is valid for 30 days. This email provided a link to review a revised offer. Confusingly the website at the end of the link didn't mention the 10 day issue at all.
The website (via the link) confirmed that the phones were in excellent condition but that they were locked to Vodafone so Phone Convert's offer was being reduced to £170 per phone as a result. To be clear, the phones may indeed have been locked although I had taken them back to factory settings and was unaware of this possibility prior to despatch. However, as I now realise, Vodafone will unlock the phone for free so it seems absurd to reduce the value by £65 per phone for what is essentially a non issue.
In the event Phone Convert presented us with a straight choice to either accept the reduced offer or have the phones returned. For ease, my wife and I elected to accept the new offer on both phones and acceptance of this revised offer was confirmed by email immediately on 17 January.
On 21 January we received emails "confirming" that payment had been made by bank transfer. However, they have paid no money and are now extremely unresponsive to emails. The limited responses I subsequently received have made weak excuses about problems with their systems and cashflow issues but there has was still no payment 6 days after they confirmed they had made it!
Eventually, after having been reported to Action Fraud and threatened with fraud action through both Trading Standards and the Company's House Insolvency Service, Damon Mulready (the Director of Phone Convert) paid me the £170 due for each of the phones and I have amended this review as a direct result of that payment being received.
Notwithstanding that it's now resolved, in line with many other reviewers on this site I now consider the good reviews that are on this site to be extremely suspicious and completely at odds with my own experience. If you are considering using Phone Convert, I would urge you to proceed with great caution.
I get the impression this company picks one in so many to mess around. After countless emails I ended up getting my money over two months later. As 3 weeks had passed without a word I emailed saying I'd sent the phone 3 weeks ago and hadn't received payment. They replied saying the phone wouldn't "power on" and offered a sixth of the original quote. The iPhone had worked fine up to the time I sent it as I'd transferred all my data to my new iPhone. I replied telling them it had been working and I wasn't impressed and they said they could return it free of charge but asked for the IMEI to check. Not sure why they needed it just to check if it was working but I asked them to return it and again they asked for the IMEI which they said was to check there hadn't been a mistake, so I gave to them. A week later I asked them what was happening and if it wasn't working to send it back by return. Two weeks later I get an email estimate saying my phone was being tested, then another saying there was a problem with it and they were offering me half and another email saying if I wasn't happy they would return the phone. Then they asked me for my bank details, which I gave when I first went on their website, and they said they would get it done. Nine days later still nothing. Then the bank transfer apparently wouldn't work, so I said they had 48hours to get it sorted or I would add my name to all the bad reviews and also report them. After several more emails and the money paid in two payments, I eventually got it a week after they said they would get it done aarrrgggghhhhh
I cannot give less than one star, would if I could.
I sent my phone to them agreeing £45 to buy from me. Then told it is not working so only valued at £5. I agreed. Then they said they do not have any cheques left from their bank. They wanted me to do a bank transfer or via paypal. I was reluctant to do. So I have asked them to return my phone. I have heard nothing.
My next call will be to Action Fraud as I am convinced this is a scam.
Stay clear of this company.
UPDATE: Since I threatened to report them, I have had a response and have now received my money. Like other users this appears to have come from a personal account of someone at the company. I'd still avoid and there are many more reputable and efficient phone recycling companies out there.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Initially I had a really good experience with them. The site was easy to use, they offered me the best price for my phone after I got an upgrade and sent the trade pack quickly so it was super easy for me to send my phone to them. However that's when I hit a stumbling block. I returned the phone using Hermes courier in December 2019. It's now the 23rd Jan 2020 and I still don't have my money. I've chased them twice and keep getting told they are looking into it and someone will come back to me. So now I have no phone and no money. I hope someone at Phone Convert reads this review and contacts me to discuss and arrange prompt payment. Otherwise I will follow the advice of other reviewers and report to fraud teams and police for theft. Wouldn't use again or recommend
EDITED: I was asked to remove my negative review when I was paid.
I will not be doing so- I had to report this to the police and Action Fraud in order to get my payment. I would not recommend doing business with the company. I believe the positive reviews on here are fake, as it took almost three weeks to get my payment and the director, Damon paid me from his personal account.
I was quoted 200+ but the adjusted quote was only 73£, i was to be paid on Sunday or Monday - two weeks after sending my phones in, even after I was told I was getting payment I received an email saying my phone was being tested, they claimed the phone didn’t work, why was it being tested? Not only did I take 1/4 of what I was quoted but it took three weeks and they expect me to remove the review. Do not use this company. I am baffled at how it has been operating for over six years. It has been flagged with Action Fraud (not the first time) and Devon Cornwall PD
Avoid!!! Posted iPhone 7 on 8th November. Company received on 14th, offered a reduced price on 26th November which I accepted immediately. Still awaiting payment even though email was received on 29th November advising it was made. No response from ‘Damon’ since. Reported to Action Fraud.
