Scam alert!!!

I prepaid for a rental car via Discover Cars which was to be picked up at Viaggiare at Cagliari Airport in Sardegna. When I presented my Australian issued Visa credit card to pay the security deposit at the counter, they decided that their system did not recognise my valid credit card as a credit card and since they weren't able to take a security deposit using my VALID credit card, I was denied the rental car that I had paid over $ 500 euros for. And to get a refund, I had to contact Discover cars! I called my bank in Australia within a minute of this ridiculous nonsense and my bank laughed!! They said it is ofcourse a VALID credit card and noted that no transaction was even attempted on my credit card. Discover cars have responded saying that it appears my bank may have flagged the transaction as fraudulent so I should have alerted my bank prior to my holiday informing them that I was travelling overseas so they would have honoured the transaction....and for that reason they cant refund my payment...instead issuing me a rental credit .....I live in Australia so what will I do with this credit for a rental company in Europe?!? And NO TRANSACTION WAS ATTEMPTED ON MY VALID CREDIT CARD!!! I will be launching legal action because this is utterly ridiculous!!! And funnily enough...Gold car, which was the counter right next door, seemed to magically have the exact same Toyota Yaris that I had pre paid for at Viaggiare!! Eventhough on their website they had NO CARS AVAILABLE THAT DAY! Interesting!!! guess they are all in it together....how romantic!!

Absolute Nightmare Experience – Greedy and Unhelpful Staff

We booked a car with this rental company through a broker. At the time of booking, our exact flight arrival time wasn’t finalized, but we were scheduled to land around noon. Unfortunately, our flight was slightly delayed, and we then faced a massive queue exiting airport security due to the UK and Non-EU passport regulations. By the time we made it to the desk, we were two hours late.

Unhelpful and Ignorant Desk Staff
The woman working at the desk immediately informed us that our booking was completely gone because we were two hours late, and that we would have to make a brand-new booking either with them or someone else. She kept repeating that we were supposed to call them over the phone to inform them of the late arrival. I tried to explain to her that we obviously couldn’t make a phone call while we were thousands of feet in the air on a flight, but she was incredibly ignorant, dismissive, and entirely unhelpful.

Zero Cooperation
I contacted our broker to get the situation resolved on the spot. When the broker tried to speak with her, she flat-out refused to talk to them, stating they had to call her company's head office directly. We tried calling the head office, but there was absolutely no answer.

To top it off, I asked her if the car we originally booked was still available. It was sitting right there, but she refused to give it to us under our original terms. Instead, she smugly told us we could rent it directly through them right now, but for three times the original price.

System Delays and Unprofessional Behaviour
Refusing to be ripped off, we had no choice but to rebook a new reservation through our broker. Because of their system delays, we had to wait around for three hours. When the paperwork finally went through, we ended up with the exact same car and had to deal with the exact same agent.

Unbelievably, once she got the new booking, her mood completely changed. She became overly chatty and even pointed out another couple with two children at the counter, gossiping to us that they were also having major difficulties with their booking as if it were a joke.

The car itself was perfectly fine, but the customer service was shocking. Avoid this company if you want a stress-free trip.

The worst holiday experience I have had…

The worst holiday experience I have had in my 50 years, avoid these guys before they ruin your whole trip.
Went to Rome airport (FCO) to pick up my Fiat 500 that I had already paid for through Discover to go to my friends wedding. No Fiats there so ended up with a Mahindra, shockingly bad car but that's fine. Went to pay the deposit with my credit card but for some reason it wouldn't work in their machine, asked them to tap it but they said they can't do that (I had been using the card fine in Rome for the last few days), the only other way was another credit card (How many people carry 2 credit cards?) or a debit card which I had BUT this meant I had to use their insurance which was an EXTRA 500 EUROS!!!!!!
I told them where to go and walked away to calm down and assess my options. When I spoke to other car rental places there they wanted 1400 euros for a car without a booking. So I went back to Viaggiare, apologised and said ok I'll have to take the disgusting 500 euros option. They said oh we cancelled your booking now so actually it will now be 800 EUROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because I was going to a friends wedding in Umbria that started in 3 hours I had to do it.
Scumbags. Do not go near this company or they will cost you the price of a holiday before it even starts. Everything you've heard about the car rental industry is true, super corrupt gangsters in horrible little uniforms.
Funnily enough the drop off in Brindisa was lovely and totally pain free.

Brand new car received, hassle free renting experience

The pick-up of the car did not take more than 15 minutes in Lamezia Terme, Italy. We received a brand new car 2026 (10 kms only in it). The return of the car was hassle free, acknowledgement subsequently followed soon.

Release of the deposit on the credit card was made within two hours from returning the car.

Very satisfied with the experience.

Great!

Great last-minute availability! We received a brand-new 2026 car, which was a pleasant surprise. The check-in and check-out process was smooth and hassle-free. The staff were incredibly friendly, funny, and spoke excellent English.

When our flight was canceled, they were very helpful and fortunately were able to extend our rental, which made a stressful situation much easier to manage.

Highly recommended!

Be very careful when renting a car from…

Be very careful when renting a car from this company.

If you do not purchase additional insurance, they may charge your credit card for even the smallest issue without properly informing you. In my case, they even tried to hold me responsible for damage that was already present on the vehicle before I picked it up.

Fortunately, I had photos taken at the time of collection that clearly show the damage already existed. Despite providing this evidence, I still had to dispute the charge.

This experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. Based on what happened to me, I would strongly recommend documenting the vehicle thoroughly before driving away and thinking twice before renting from this company.

Be cautious and protect yourself.

Extremely disappointing experience with…

Extremely disappointing experience with Viaggiare Rent at Bari Airport.

Our group had 4 separate reservations, 4 separate vouchers, 4 different reservation numbers and 4 different drivers.

Upon arrival, we were informed that all reservations had been cancelled because their system incorrectly showed them under the same name. We were then told that the vehicles were no longer available.

When I explained that I had valid vouchers and confirmation emails, the supervisor (on speakerphone) was extremely rude, accused me of being confused and even suggested that my vouchers were fake.

To make matters worse, we were told that if we still wanted vehicles, we would have to pay more because the original rates were no longer available. In other words, we were asked to pay extra to fix a mistake that was entirely theirs.

Only after showing the original confirmation email from Viaggiare head office did another manager finally recognise the error and instruct the office to honour the reservations at the agreed price.

The result? More than 2 hours waiting at the airport while staff tried to find replacement vehicles because the cars we had booked were no longer available.

Some members of our group are elderly and have physical difficulties, yet they were left waiting for hours with little information and no meaningful assistance.

Mistakes can happen. What is unacceptable is the way customers are treated when those mistakes occur.

Very poor organisation, very poor communication and a shocking level of customer service.

I contacted the company directly to give them the opportunity to explain what happened, but I have received no response.

I cannot recommend this company based on our experience.

Staff are good but AVOID AVOID AVOID

I’ve rented all over the world with large and small firms. THIS WAS BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE. We waited TWO HOURS IN THE SUN in the queue for the counter at Catania only to be told there was no car available for another 30minutes!!

Staff not well trained at at Roma Fiumicino.

I rent a car at Roma Fiumicino on April 2026. They had just changed the pick up location without any communication. There were on the voucher and at the airport the sign of viaggiare rent to a tower but there was noone there. They moved to another tower without notice. When arrived a the tower written on the voucher, at the right time I made several calls to viaggiare rent but noone answered. I had to wait 1 hour and ask to other car rentals to reach the new place. At the viaggiare rent desk, the employees said that they were simply to enganged with other client to bother to respond at my several calls. The staff was surely not well trained and also not kind at all. I don't recommend this agency and for sure i will not book again with them.

If I could give this company a zero

If I could give this company a zero , I would. Horrific rental experience at Verona last summer. My husband and I arrived with our two young children all excited to collect car hire at the Viaggiare Rental desk and firstly we waited in a queue with all the other holiday makers. Eventually a young lady appeared from behind the counter and then what amazed us was that all the families and couples that were there were all refused car hire saying that they booked incorrectly and when it came to our turn, the lady at the desk said we were booked on the wrong date. After much arguement, she later said ok, she was wrong, then refused our credit card sating it had not enough validity on it. I think only one group were successful with their booking. We went accross the hall to another car hire company and they could not have been more helpful , so I would advise everyone to not book with Viaggiare rental as they never even gave us our booking deposit back. Horrible start to a holiday

The most shocking and dishonest company…

The most shocking and dishonest company in the business. The car was filthy inside and out. I’d paid to have the car kept in a secure locked car park to keep it safe whilst in Poland. When I returned I received an email saying there is damage to the rear bumper. I hadn’t noticed this, but it’s obviously been caused by placing things in the boot. I didn’t use the boot once. The mark was obviously there and isn’t major. I had full insurances. I dropped the car back and posted the key in the letterbox in good faith they’d be honest. They know the car wasn’t clean when I took it, likely masking the mark they sent me. They then justified the situation by saying ‘I left it and walked off’. Their office was closed, I followed the instructions returning the key as requested. Don’t trust this company. They’ve literally no business ethics, and clearly thrive on fraudulent transactions. I’ll take it wherever it needs to go. I’m not being penalised for another persons damage. When I collected the vehicle there was a huge debate/argument with some previous customers, which although I couldn’t understand the details due to the language, I could sense the people before had a legitimate complaint about the situation. Krakow Poland. Keep it in mind people.

Extremely disappointing experience with…

Extremely disappointing experience with Viaggiare. I had a confirmed reservation through Rentalcars.com and arrived only about one hour after the scheduled pickup time. Despite the minimal delay, the staff refused to provide the vehicle and offered no reasonable solution or flexibility.

What made the situation worse was the lack of customer service. Instead of trying to help, rebook, or offer an alternative vehicle, I was simply told that the reservation was no longer valid. A one-hour delay should not automatically result in a customer being left stranded, especially when the rental office is still open.

The policies may be written somewhere in the terms and conditions, but the way they were applied felt completely disproportionate and customer-unfriendly. If you are considering renting from Viaggiare, be aware that even a relatively small delay can result in losing your reservation with little or no assistance from staff.

Based on my experience, I would not rent from this company again and would strongly recommend looking at other rental providers with more reasonable customer service and flexibility.
