ONP Solicitors were appointed by HSBC to act in connection with the transfer of my mortgage from joint ownership into my sole name.

At the outset, progress was unacceptably slow. Whilst the online portal provided a reasonable degree of transparency and the call centre staff were generally courteous and able to provide basic updates, this was where the positive aspects of the service ended.

As the transaction became more complex, the standard of legal representation deteriorated significantly. Responsibility for my file appeared to be transferred between multiple case handlers, with no continuity of ownership or accountability. On numerous occasions, when contacting ONP directly, their own staff were unable to identify who had conduct of my matter, which is wholly unacceptable for a regulated legal practice.

As exchange and completion approached, the handling of the matter descended into complete disarray. I received in excess of four or five completion statements, each reflecting materially different figures, demonstrating a concerning lack of attention to detail and raising serious questions regarding the accuracy of the firm’s financial administration.

Having approved the completion statement issued to me, I expected completion to take place on the agreed date. ONP failed to complete the transaction and, on the following day, produced an entirely revised completion statement which included an unexplained £200 charge for indemnity insurance that had neither been adequately justified nor agreed in advance. More significantly, this error resulted in insufficient funds being remitted to redeem my existing mortgage, leaving the previous mortgage account open and creating a protracted three-month process to rectify a mistake that was entirely of ONP’s own making.

The experience was characterised by poor communication, a lack of continuity, inadequate case management, and avoidable administrative errors that caused unnecessary delay, inconvenience and stress. In my view, the level of service fell well below the standard one should reasonably expect from a firm of solicitors entrusted with a conveyancing transaction.

I would strongly discourage anyone from instructing ONP Solicitors where an alternative is available. Should they be acting for the other side of a transaction, I would advise preparing for delays, confusion and unnecessary complications

As you can imagine this is a stressful time for all having to remortgage. This experience was not easy going but onp took all the stressoutof the situation and made it very simple woth thier fantastic app which keeps you uoto date with the progress. Everytime i had a question they got back to me with thier answers very promptly and nothing seemed too much for them. I would highly recommend them based on my personal experience.
