I’ve had a deeply concerning experience…
I’ve had a deeply concerning experience with Zocdoc that raises serious ethical and operational issues for providers.
I have invested thousands of dollars into this platform with the expectation that its systems, billing practices, and policies would be applied fairly and consistently. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.
One major issue is that Zocdoc appears to penalize providers for circumstances that are entirely outside of their control. For example, I have had multiple instances where patients booked appointments with incorrect insurance information. In one case, a patient selected Cigna during booking, but uploaded a completely different insurance card afterward. Despite this clear discrepancy, I was still charged approximately $600 for the booking, and the charge was not considered disputable.
In another instance, a patient was able to book as out-of-network despite my settings being configured specifically to prevent out-of-network appointments. This was a platform error, not user error. However, I was still charged for that booking, and I received a response stating that the charge was “not disputable.” That is extremely concerning from both a fairness and accountability standpoint.
Additionally, duplicate and erroneous bookings are not adequately addressed. I was charged around $1,000 within minutes due to a patient booking multiple appointments “by accident.” While Zocdoc may internally “flag” these users, there is no meaningful protection or reimbursement for providers who absorb the financial impact.
The broader issue is that providers are expected to pay significant fees per booking, yet there are insufficient safeguards in place to verify insurance accuracy, prevent duplicate bookings, or enforce platform settings. This creates a system where providers assume disproportionate financial risk for errors they did not cause.
Customer support has also been disappointing, particularly around billing disputes, where responses feel rigid and dismissive rather than solution-oriented.
Given the financial stakes involved, platforms like this should have stronger verification processes, clearer accountability measures, and a fair dispute resolution system. Based on my experience, those protections are currently lacking.
I would strongly encourage other providers to carefully evaluate the risks before relying on this platform.

Great providers. Highly qualified and great individualized care.
Independence returned.
It's tough navigating a complex medical history. The process of finding the right provider on your own can feel exhausting, especially with the endless phone calls, insurance inquiries, accepting new patients or not, long holds, practically bargaining appt availabilities, the shock of next appt availability some time in the next century, and occasionally feeling like you're bothering medical office staff. There is something empowering about being able to SEE your options and choose what works best for you. It gives you back a sense of independence that can feel lost when you are actively seeking help and almost begging for care. I love that ZocDoc gives me the ability to browse providers, READ REVIEWS, check availability, and book an appointment all on one site. Easy Peasy.
