I recently purchased a second hand…

I recently purchased a second hand Volvo XC40 from Max Vestgard-McGee at Volvo in Leatherhead and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From first interaction Max Vestgard-McGee was polite, knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping. The entire process from test drive to handing over keys was stress-free.
The paperwork was quick and painless. Max took time to patiently show me all the features of my new car, helping me link my phone and explained the Volvo app.
I highly recommend their friendly and patient approach.

Constant drive to get money out of you!

I’ve a 2022 XC60 recharge (bought in 2024 from TMS Hinckley). Sales service superb at the time, but after that Volvo just seem to try to sting you. Service cost expensive, and broken High Voltage heater control unit which appears as a known failure component (which they “subsidised”, but still cost me over £600. Now they want £99 a year to continue to use the integrated software.. Annoying!
Would I buy another Volvo.. probably not.

Volvo Assistance - a case study in incompetence

Dreadful experience with this so-called service. On Friday my wife broke down on the M6 and after a wait on the hard shoulder of over 2 hours, the car was eventually recovered and she was taken to a motorway service station where she was promised a hire car to continue her journey. After repeated promises it never came and eventually a family member did a four hour round trip to collect her. The car was fixed on Monday and was supposed to be returned to us between 12- and 2pm today. But the car hasn't moved from the Volvo dealer in Hinckley. Apparently because "the dealer hasn't requested us to repatriate it". Even though they have, on Monday. It seems a chaotic organisation which makes promises but doesn't keep them. An absolute shambles avoid like the plague!

Awful experience

Do not trust Aysha Bond and her team at Stoneacre Lincoln.

I purchased a car from them, and seven months later I booked my MOT and service elsewhere to have it done myself. However, I was then contacted by a member of their team who told me I had a free service and could have it done in London. I specifically double-checked this with them, and they confirmed it was free.

When I attended my appointment at Volvo, I was then informed that it was not free and that I would need to pay. It seems they provided misleading information in order to get me to attend their service and then charge me afterwards.

I refused to pay and rebooked my service with another garage at a lower price, but I am extremely disappointed with this experience. It delayed my service by a month and wasted a significant amount of my time.

Volvo dash cams.

Volvo, when are you going to answer to the fact that you are fitting absolute useless dash cams to your customers cars. You know the Peksunny app is not fit for purpose, yet you carry on fitting this rubbish to our cars.

Don't buy a Volvo customer service is non existent

Parents bought an EX30 and have been told coming up to 4 months not to charge the car above 70% due to risk of fire we have given them a third of a year to come up with a resolve we have asked for a full refund replace the car all been rejected. We have been miss sold the car quoted range at point of sale 290 ISH, Ok real range less than that but then to reduce it by 30% gives 87 miles less we went for the long range for a reason Volvo have now made the car we paid a premium for worse that the lower model. It has been miss sold falsely advertised we can say this as 4 months is classed as a reasonable amount of time dto resolve the issue. We have no resolve and no light at the end of the tunnel

TERRIBLE NEW UX

Wow. The new Ux is a disaster. It's a mess. They traded one terrible Ux for another terrible Ux. It's NOT intuitive, NOT any safer, and I lose important screen space. What the heck were they thinking? I was about to lease another XC60, and now I'll look elsewhere.

Volvo Derby not refunding deposits

Very poor experience with the Derby Volvo dealership. Took a test drive on 28th Feb and placed a fully refundable £500 deposit on a car. I decided not to go ahead with the purchase and advised the dealership on 2nd March. It is now 31st March and I have still not had the £500 deposit refunded. This should take no more than 8 to 10 days at most. I have contacted them twice and will now have to resort to contacting my Credit card company to claim the money back.

Volvo do not take significant safety issues seriously

Volvo do not take significant (potentially fatal/disabling) safety issues seriously. For this reason alone, I would not purchase a Volvo again as I do not have confidence in the safety of their vehicles.

My 2020 Volvo XC40 developed a fault in November 2025, where the only symptom was the smell of fuel coming from the front of the car. I took my car to a local independent reputable garage where they diagnosed the fault as a fuel line crack, where petrol was leaking on the underside of the car, near to where the exhaust is - posing serious risk of combustion. The reputable garage I went to advised that this was a manufacturing fault due to the bracket within that area not having a rubber grommet (since new) and therefore slowly rubbing away at the fuel line over time, resulting in eventual crack and the issue I encountered.

Prior to repair, I discussed the problem with my local Volvo garage who were unhelpful/uninterested, so I contacted Volvo UK for further advice. They too were not interested in investigating the issue, stating irrelevant reasons such as the car is out of warranty (a less than 6 year old car should not be at risk of spontaneous combustion due to manufacturing fault) and hasn’t been serviced by Volvo (not mandatory under European Block Exemption Rules and unserviceable part affected).

Following this, prior to repair, I took detailed videos and photographs of the fault which I sent to Volvo UK in an official complaint email / form (containing detailed descriptions). In addition, I kept the defective part in my garage (which still, is in my garage un-inspected), expecting that they would want to inspect the part (which ended up not the case). Also of note, the replacement part fitted to my car (ordered through Volvo), is exactly the same (with no rubber grommet), so I expect the issue will recur unless action is taken by Volvo.

Following completion of detailed forms and emails by myself, I received a generic response from Volvo simply rejecting to reimburse the cost of repair / to investigate the fault. The response/s did not address any of the points I had made or questions I posed - simple generic rejection with no explanation, other than to escalate to the ombudsman. I later found, following contacting the ombudsman as advised that they are unable to help with cars outside the manufacturer warranty. The ombudsman admitted that manufactures do this, knowing full well escalation to the ombudsman will be pointless.

After 6 months of emails, phone calls and completing forms I’ve given up trying to get my money back for the repair and for Volvo to investigate the fault. However, I’ve written this review to highlight that Volvo do not take safety seriously as advertising would have you believe. They have failed to investigate a serious manufacturing defect, which potentially could have had a fatal/disabling outcome for me but also others in the future. I understand this is not an active recall (on the petrol version) but by not taking incidents such as this seriously, defects will be missed and lives put at risk.

Got a brand new Volvo and within 3 weeks it had to go back to repair IHU which I was told would take 4 weeks due to backlog. I was due a courtesy car but it has been a nightmare trying to get the hire vehicle. Volvo doesn’t care about it’s customers

Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with Volvo Car UK customer support.

I raised a serious complaint regarding an authorised Volvo dealership (Stoneacre Volvo Lincoln) after discovering that parts invoiced as replaced during a service had not actually been replaced. The dealership provided conflicting explanations and only partially acknowledged the issue after repeated escalation.

Given the seriousness of the situation, I contacted Volvo Car UK expecting proper oversight and support. However, despite reviewing the case, Volvo declined to take responsibility and simply redirected the complaint back to the dealership.

This response is extremely concerning. Authorised dealerships represent the Volvo brand, and customers reasonably expect a certain standard of service, transparency, and accountability. In this case, that expectation was not met.

As a result, I have had to escalate the matter to the Motor Ombudsman.

Very disappointing handling of a serious issue. I expected significantly better support and accountability from Volvo.

Software problems Volvo agents can’t fix

Not surprised to learn Volvo are now near the bottom of the reliability tables. My two year old XC40 EV was great until it went in for it’s first service then after about a week gremlins got into the infotainment system which effected charging. After five weeks being repaired I’ve had the car back for ten days and now have a message on the display Ecall Service failure. All trust lost.

Don't buy a Volvo product!

On October 1st 2025, the technician troubleshooting my cars issue informed me that the part needed to fix my car must be ordered (paid for in advance). It's been 24 weeks and Volvo has yet to deliver the part. Additionally, Volvo Sweden refuses to communicate with the repair shop in the USA. How long would you be okay with having a car in the shop?
