About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Vets Never, Just Don't Do It.

Vets Now were very keen to establish what our insurance limit was. Thereafter the pound signs in their eyes said it all. £4,300 for a 2 night stay. Once they have your loved one, they have you over a barrel. We are now left questioning whether surgery was clinically necessary. Trading Standards are now involved.

Very, very expensive and unreasonably costly but good service even though I had to go to them

The vet was very good and explained my options perfectly.

However, the cost of seeing a vet there was nearly £300 even before any treatment was carried out.

You're breakdown of costs is interesting but you must know on average how many OOH calls you are going to receive in a year and thus you can breakdown and share the cost of providing that service over between the number of users.

For £300, and the indication that I am paying that price because I might be the only person to need OOH cover, I might reasonably expect that the vets would come out to visit me and not that I would have to take my pet to them.

I was also charged a fee of £85 for a 32ml bottle of Metacam that is available online for about £10 including delivery. I have not included the prescription charge in my comparison as I was already paying for the vet in the OOH cover cost.

Hi Philippa, thanks for your review. I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/. Vets are great but admin service pretty poor

We had to visit twice. The team we dealt with on the first visit were great and the person on reception explained all the charges and insurance process very clearly.
The team we dealt with on the second visit were very different. Reception staff were very aloof, messed up the invoicing resulting in us having to pay 3 separate amounts.
I received constant reminders about the outstanding balance but our insurers were chasing Vets Now for info required to process the claim.
Insurers paid out very quickly after receiving the info but I’m still waiting on my refund from Vets Now more than 10 days after insurers paid out. There has been no contact from Vets Now to even say that the claim has been settled by my insurer. I have contacted them twice via web chat to ask what’s happening and I’ve been told the branch will contact me to discuss a refund (if due) and it can take 10 working days after the insurance settlement.
It would have been much simpler and quicker for me to pay the whole amount and claim back from insurer directly.

Cut toe nail

Alex, female vets nurse met us at the door. She showed us into a room took some notes, then checked Lily, & looked at her foot. Her toe nail had been cut to the quick. She applied the silver nitrate, but then took her to the vet, to get help to bandage her paw. Everything was explained, even the price. They were very good with Lily. We were in & out within the hour..I couldn't fault them. Thank you both so much.

I have no issue with the clinical treatment received but extortionate charge for out of service visit was disgraceful and then having the cheek to charge £25 to fill in the insurance claim form really rubbed salt into the wound.

Hi Steve, thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. Puppy Chewed a wasp.

My puppy was stung by a wasp in the mouth. The advice Vets Now gave me over the phone was clear and relevant. I took my puppy to the vets and was examined and was given a clean bill of health. As it was an emergency visit it was more expensive than a normal vets appointment but the reassurance that my puppy was going to be fine was worth it.
