Smooth - From start to end
From start to end - booking my rail tickets, collecting them at the station, and travel to and from Bristol went smoothly.
AVOID
AVOID. Terrible customer service, they just tell you it's your fault if you buy the wrong ticket where every other train company will upgrade or change your ticket without admin fees. With Trainline they'll just say sorry for the inconvenience. If you buy with Trainline no one else can help you either all your ticket issues have to be resolved via Trainline and they are not going to help you. Stick to other apps. Don't bother with Trainline.

Whilst the train was on time, it was very disappointing that the train running from Exeter St David’s to Edinburgh (which is always packed, especially on a Friday with weekend travellers), only comprises 4 carriages up to New Street. This was obviously wholly inadequate and resulted in myself and many other passengers having to stand for the majority of the journey.
The online booking format has changed
The online booking format has changed. I cannot now be sure of whether I have booked an open return, a timed return or a single. It used to be easier than this.
Also fed up today because my taxi was late, so I missed my train and it was a non-refundable journey. Not the Trainline’s fault, I guess, but still annoyed at the waste of the ticket price. It needed to be that particular train to fit my arrangements, so an alternative was out of the question.

Web site confusing. Options unclear. I was not allowed to buy open return - if I pressed that option was given a same day return. Ended up having to get two singles where I am limited to one train time for return. The app is not user friendly needs redesign with clear explanation of different ticket types. There should not be an ‘open return’ option if it is not on offer.
