I had my regular eye exam appointment on March 1, 2026 in Liffey Valley shop, and I received my two pairs of glasses on March 7, 2026. Excellent doctors, excellent support staff. Well-mannered and very kind assistants. I would like to especially mention Robina and Ashraf. Very positive and helpful guys.

Been in cork city branch recently

Been in cork city branch recently , staff are great and very helpful for the very few that they have left and despite the language barrier at least I thought it was a barrier until someone else explained the new system to me it was just as confusing and dreadful , it's all hidden charges and fees now (no you are not getting your free eye test you still have to pay for it ) and a medical card is useless you'll still end up paying a fortune compared to how it used to be, I get a business needs to make money but it's absolutely terrible what Specsavers have done , what cost only 130 euro for my last visit and prescription glasses the same ones and set up are now over 250 euro , the quality of glasses has gone so downhill it's like temu for glasses , everything is cheap plastic frames like you could buy in a discount shop with a selection of about 4 or 5 metal frames to which only 1 fit (the same as current glasses) now the selection they feel like kids glasses and all plastic ones which does not last , there's no room for wear and tear and they're broken within a few days or weeks as I've had them in the past , glasses don't even have nose pieces anymore they're just bridged which means they're either falling off your face and breaking off the floor or fogging up if you are too warm , you're better off going to an independent or local optician getting better quality glasses at lower prices, Specsavers has taken a deep dive as it does not offer you affordable quality anymore

Charges for what???

I have been a customer of Specsavers for nearly 20 years at this point. There were some hiccups along the way and I was not happy about unclear pricing and hidden extras, but I kept using them for convenience rather than the level of service. Each time I bought glasses, one pair was specifically made for work. My employer would partially refund the cost of these, which required the optometrist to fill out the form to confirm the prescription and confirm they were needed for using a VDU. On this occasion, I forgot to take the form with me to the appointment, but was told I could bring it with me when collecting the glasses. I did just the thing, but was told there was no optician available to fill it out and I would have to come back the following day. That’s fine. When I was setting the bill for my trial contact lenses, I was casually informed that I would have to pay €40 extra to have the form filled for my employer (I’m a civil servant). I asked why, as I never had to pay for it before, and was told it was for the optician to “put their name on it”. Well I’ll tell you what, Specsavers. You can keep the form. You’ve just lost not one, but three customers - we will use somebody else’s services from now on.

predatory pricing practices

predatiey pricing practices. extra charges slipped in. not transparent about extras. flim-flaming people with jargon. also the focal length of the close work glasses wasn't suitable for either reading or computer work and the frames didn't fit my head and kept falling off. also no glasses on display in the shop within the HSA price range so worthless. and a waste of time. avoid at all.costs

Small Claims Court Ennis Specsavers

I had to bring Ennis Specsavers branch to the Small Claims Court to have them replace a faulty 5 month old €190 set of reading frames.
They wanted to charge me more money for the replacement frames.

On two occasions screws seized on the frames and had to be fixed in-store, then the arm popped out of the frame when opening, which was told in-store makes them unrepairable.

Ennis Specsavers Customer Service to my written complaints about frames and further charges , 1 of them hand delivered to the store was No Contact at all.
John O Farrell did make the time to contest claim when he received it from Ennis Court, he then showed up in court where Judge told him immediately to replace frames without any further charge to me as faulty.

If you have a problem you think you didn’t cause and they won’t resolve then bring Ennis Specsavers to the Small Claims Court, but hopefully after this time will be more proactive by putting other customers first instead of money.

Generic update from Specsavers to my review to make look like their interested in helping , more fooling around to customers they have contact details for.
Can’t even get my name right, wouldn’t be surprised if have wrong lens in glasses.

Absolute nightmare

Absolute nightmare. Incompetence of the highest order and zero regard for the customer.

I booked an eye test on 22 December 2025 at Liffey Valley branch and Following the test, I ordered two pairs of glasses:

A super reader

A driving varifocal with brown polarised tint

During the Christmas period, I was informed that the driving glasses had been incorrectly ordered and were not varifocal, which was an error on your side. I was then asked to pay extra to correct this mistake.

On 2 January, I received a message stating that my glasses were ready for collection. When I went to collect them, both pairs were wrong:

The driving glasses were black instead of brown

The super reader was missing altogether

After nearly 20 more days, I received another call saying the glasses were ready. On collection, I discovered that both lenses had been fitted into the same frame, despite clearly ordering two different frames.

I collected the super reader at that point. One of the directors stepped in, acknowledged the issue, and assured me that the driving glasses would be prioritised and made available for collection in Maynooth, which is closer to my home.

On 25 January, I was again informed that the glasses were ready. When I went to collect them, I discovered that yet again the wrong product had been made—instead of driving varifocals, another super reader had been produced. I was told the driving glasses would need to be reordered again.

This is beyond frustrating. Ordering glasses is the core function of your business, and yet this has been mishandled repeatedly over more than a month. The lack of attention to detail, poor quality control, and repeated errors show a complete disregard for the customer’s time and patience.

This level of service is unacceptable.

I ordered new glasses at Specsavers

I ordered new glasses at Specsavers, Cruises St. Limerick. When they came after 10 days, I wore them for 3 days but it seemed like I was given someone else’s order. I found them to be dangerous, especially when driving. I returned to the store and found the staff very unhelpful. They told me that they would sort the problem in 3 days. Despite several attempts to contact a manager to no avail, I went to the shop after 10 days and demanded a refund. An terrible customer service. Avoid!

Three words specsavers

Three words specsavers. Money making racket! I had old frames, I asked if new lenses could be put into old frames (which are in perfect condition) answer I got was oh no the lab is gone now so you'll have to buy new glasses! So I have perfectly good frames which of no use now. I have two issues with this 1. Sustainability issue and 2. Bad value for customers. Optometrist was very good but won't be going back to specsavers, always end up spending a fortune.

Great Service In-Store, But Communication Could Be Improved

The opticians are extremely friendly and professional, and I really appreciate the time they take in-store to help you find frames that suit your face shape and personal style. They’re great listeners when doing the eye tests and very good at addressing any concerns, which makes the experience feel very personal.

That said, I do feel there’s room for improvement in the overall process. On both occasions when I purchased glasses, I had to call the store myself to find out when they were ready, which felt a bit inconvenient.

One additional suggestion would be a return or reuse scheme for old frames when purchasing new glasses. I was told they can take the frames back, but there’s currently no discount or incentive offered. Given how expensive glasses, especially designer frames, can be, this feels like a missed opportunity and something worth considering.

Overall, a positive experience with excellent staff, but some process improvements could really elevate it.

Good communication is key

At Eyre Sq Galway Specsavers, I needed a new prescription and had 2 options to choose from. The optometrist was excellent (5 stars) and explained the pros & cons of each clearly and simply.

Then I spoke to another staff member whose role was to guide me through my options to help me choose. This didn’t go so well (0 stars).
I felt that she was trotting out a spiel and not actually listening to what I needed. Although I kept saying that I was getting more confused, she made no effort to simplify matters.

Many opticians’ customers are going to be older people, many are going to have anxiety or cognitive issues, and many will not have English as their first language. I consider myself an average customer but I left Specsavers with my head spinning.
This ‘professional’ also had a trainee with her, observing our interaction. It was certainly good training in how NOT to communicate effectively!

This rating is not fair for the other staff I met, who were all great. So, my apologies to them.

I haven’t as yet returned there to order my glasses.

V poor aftercare service

I collected my repaired varifocal glasses this morning. One of the sidearms had broken.
It was repaired /replaced here in La zenia spain by a professional team in Vision Center La Zenia and technicians in Torreveca.
This company have taken over from Specsavers and provide an excellent aftercare service.
Much better than overseas.
I requests repairs in my hometown Clonmel and they insisted they could not be repaired! Their solution was to buy another frame from them for 199 euro. As a consession the shop offered a 50% reduction.
This is my second incident.
Another pair of specticles from specsavers Clonmel had a lens fall out and lost I was told no they cannot be fixed I walked up the syreet to an opticians in Clonmel and they replaced the lens.
Again no aftercare service.
The team selling the products were good but tecnically they seem not willing to repair 1/2 year old glasses that they sell.
How can other opticians do so at no cost or v little???

This place makes my blood boil .

This place makes my blood boil .. my children and me have been a long term customer but Iam seriously getting sick to my stomach with it . Every time it’s money money money . €180 today just to update lens prescription into old frames ( year old). Then she said - extra €20 incase the frame breaks when we are installing the lens into the frame . - I replied - so I have to pay to repair my frame that u could break doing the job your paid to do in the first place ? Just do it gently and don’t break it . As it is the said frames had snapped twice in the previous year . If I didn’t pay the extra €20- she was going to make a note of it - saying I take full responsibility.. WTF like ..
