Cost cutting penny pinchers
Hired a ground works company that left leaking water and foul pipes. After them a crew of Europeans went climbing down the man holes to touch them up but left crumbling cement two years on. The council recently got them to redo the lot before adoption, still ongoing with extremely little communication from their management, and we had to argue for this. Been here almost five years and ~2 of them were peaceful from building noise, and this is the show estate, another estate across the road will need the same works doing.
Initially, after moving in, I had a boggy garden and had to argue with them to fix it, they chose the cheapest option. They also tried to take away a garden gate and garage side door after purchase hoping we wouldn't notice as the house was still being built, I had to argue for it as it was on the plan. They installed a plug socket 10cm from the kitchen sink and when asked to move it said it was legal and safe as long as it's fused. Then they tried to stick a street light in front of my lounge (not on plan) one meter into my garden, and said the council wanted it there.
Lies, endless battles and sometimes you need to involve solicitors. This is definitely not the company that I had read great reviews about before buying the property. Many little things simply add up to spoil the experience of a new home.
DO NOT BUY
Buying a Pennyfarthing House was the worst decision I have made. This is a company that has no moral compass and makes life a nightmare for purchasers. We actually pulled out of our sale initially as PF refused to engage in discussions about severe drainage problems affecting our garden. Even with solicitor intervention it was only the prospect of losing the sale that persuaded them to resolve the issue and our move was delayed by 2 months. For 2 years we then battled endlessly to get our house in a state fit for living in. We had mouldy bathrooms due to non waterproof boards being used in both showers this needed completely rebuilding and retiling both showers. We had a sloping floor in the living room that had to be relaid. We spent hours in dispute with them to get the work agreed and done. Months and months ensued of waiting in for tradespeople and materials. Having got to the point we thought we had seen the back of them in our house we find that the drains in our road have not been laid correctly and the water authority will not approve them and therefore the council will not adopt the road. It is nearly a year now we have lived on yet another building site with currently no end in sight, no plan of works and silence from Directors. On a daily basis we have the road closed, short or no notice of access to our property, continual noise dirt and dust so we cannot open our windows. Most residents have had damage to their cars which PF refuse to acknowledge or compensate. If you are thinking of buying a house from Pennyfarthing pay a visit to Westworth Way in Verwood to see the state we live in and speak to the residents who will share their experiences - particularly if you are planning on buying on Phase 2 of Potters Woid
Daily disruption almost 5 years on
Potters Wood Phase 1 resident since 2020
No sooner did we think we’d managed to forget the name Pennyfarthing, we had them back on our doorstep and they haven’t left since May 2024.
The foul and surface water drains were condemned by Wessex Water because they weren’t built to the correct specification. Since May 2024 the residents on this phase of the development have endured endless disruption to our daily lives, all due to the incompetence of a company whose Directors don’t even have the balls to come down and phase the residents and tell us the truth. We have been ignored, then lied to, then ignored, over and over again. Children can’t play outside, it’s a health and safety nightmare, we’re denied access to our drives, our cars have been damaged and private land has been used to store their construction vehicles.
I implore you to have a drive around phase 1 of the development, and certainly don’t buy a house on phase 2 because the contractors have told us that they have the same problem over there and it will take 4 years to fix!
The question is, what else haven’t they built to specification?
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
Why isn’t there a zero stars option, or even negative stars…which would be wholly appropriate for this utterly morally bankrupt firm of charlatans. They’ll tell you anything you want hear to get your cash, and then god help you when the problems keep coming. 4 1/2 years into our Pennyfarthing experience and still living on a building site.
Expect to be ignored, talked down to, and treated like dirt from the second any issue arises
STAY CLEAR!
STAY CLEAR!
We purchased our home in 2021 at the Potterswood site in Verwood. We have lived on a construction site for nearly half of that time, initially living without a road for the first year, constant remedial work in the garden and around the house, and now further work to the road. The latter started May/June last year and should have been finished by the end of December. Since then we have had false promises on when they would be complete, 13th Jan, End of Jan, End of March and now end of May, but most likely work beyond that. These works aren't small either, and has resulted in a scene that looks like a Syrian Warzone, with damage to multiple cars which Pennyfarthing are so far unwilling to accept any responsibility for. Due to all of this our little community has requested multiple meetings with the Director Phil Langdown but he has failed to meet this small wish. Instead he sends his lap dog who has no authority to make any decision. If you also think, ahhh well that must be an isolated incident, I can assure you it is not. There is phase 2 of the development across from us which will require the same works to be completed, which is being estimated as a 4-5 year job!! Have they told those residents yet or the potential buyers? I highly doubt it.

I would of given 0 stars
I would of given 0 stars , not our dream move into a Pennyfarthing home after all, with poor construction and bad communication if I had know this before I bought a house off them I would not of bothered , coming up to 3 years in this house and it’s been a nightmare.
Snagging response
Called customer service to deal with a couple of snags. The mail was answered the same day and the snags completed within a week. Thank you Taisha and the Team.
HOME FROM HELL
HOME FROM HELL – AVOID PENNYFARTHING AT ALL COSTS!!!
Here are the significant issues that STILL persist nearly four years later:
Pennyfarthing (PF) consistently delays responses, ignores emails, cuts corners at every opportunity and are aggressive in attempting to shut down complaints.
Blocked Drains
• We reported issues with blocked drains within a week of moving into the home, making half of our toilets unusable. PF initially blamed us for our choice of toilet paper and later claimed that, since only two of us live here, we weren't using all the toilets enough. We even suggested a toilet usage schedule and have had endless excuses for terrible workmanship against building standards.
• After persistent communication, PF eventually acknowledged the problem. However, they have attempted to fix it in a half-hearted manner many times, each time with poor execution. Numerous professional assessments have recommended effective solutions over the years, but PF has consistently ignored these suggestions. This led to our garden being dug up multiple times, with broken fences and digging up our neighbours block paved driveway without permission.
• Everytime, when the same professional returns to unblock the drains, they find the work was inadequately completed, just last week they stated that if they had performed the work, they would be shut down by trading standards given that the pipework was so poorly laid, the manhole did not use correct size pipes and so was not secured and had never been sealed, this means our house is at significant risk to rodents in our walls and ceilings with pipes left uncapped.
Failed Subfloor
• When we decided to install hardwood flooring, our flooring company informed us that the subfloor had completely failed. After much effort, PF agreed to let the same company fix the issue and pay for the extra work, then later refused to pay as it was “unfair.”
• Following a lengthy dispute and a court case, we eventually recovered our money. PF insists the rest of the subfloor, although all laid at once, is not the reason all the kitchen tiles have come up. And still refuse to sort the problem out 2 years later. The tiles have not bonded.
Major Temperature Issues
• Our room above the garage is uninhabitable for half the year due to extreme cold. Every winter, PF proposes changes, and we wait to see if any improvements are made.
• We have connected with other homeowners facing similar issues, confirming that this is a widespread problem.
In addition to these ongoing issues, a professional snagging company identified over 100 problems in our home, and we have had leaking ensuites replaced five times, with expectations that they will leak again.
We strongly advise anyone considering a Pennyfarthing home to reconsider, as they are negligent and uncaring. We are open to discussing our experiences in more detail.
All very friendly and approachable people
Jackie and the sales team have been really good at helping us throughout the buying process with Pennyfarthing. We have now been living in the house for almost 2 months and couldn't be happier. Matt and Taisha in the customer care team have also been great at sorting out the snags and answering our various questions we had.
We moved into a Pennyfarthing Homes…
We moved into a Pennyfarthing Homes newbuild in August 2023. As with any newbuild there were a few snags but thanks to the Customer Care team these were all dealt with quickly and politely. The house has been all we could wish and more.
We are moving shortly for family reasons and this will be into another Pennyfarthing newbuild. We are looking forward to a high quality home with the support of caring staff during and after the move.
Well done Matt!
Matt came round to fix our list of snags. He was very professional, took great care and sorted out all the problems. Thanks Matt for a good job well done!

We bought our house with great excitement but unfortunately have had several problems number one issue for me is our house was sold as being detached house but is in fact a linked detached. Number 2 issue is that we along with most other people on our site were not informed at any stage that Augusta’s ave is being turned into a thru rd to the A338 with the projection of at least 3,000 cars buses vans and lorry’s going past the front door absolutely shocking way to treat people please be very careful before you buy from this builders
More great customer service
Customer care responded to a boiler query within the hour and had Malcolm round that morning to help me get my heating back up and running.
