Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 78 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently report receiving expensive penalty charges despite making valid payments or correctly displaying their parking tickets. Many people feel challenged by these business practices and describe the overall experience as unsatisfactory. Some reviewers were not happy with the unhelpful appeals process, noting that customer disputes are routinely ignored or rejected immediately. Consumers also mentioned that local parking machines frequently malfunctioned, leaving motorists with no working payment methods for their stay. People strongly warn others to avoid these specific locations entirely to prevent receiving unexpected and harsh financial penalties.

Avoid Iceland in Kingsbury

Avoid Iceland in Kingsbury
Iceland has subcontracted Excel parking services to manage carpark recently.
My Mum, 88-year-old, parked in a disabled bay with a displaying disable blue badge, shopped at Iceland, Kingsbury for 25 minutes and left without entering her car in Automated machines. She was unaware of the recent change in car park management, one has to enter the Car registration before shopping and collect a ticket.
She received a parking ticket and ask to pay £70 or discounted rate of £40 if paid within 2 weeks of the "experience date".
I appealed given the circumstance. Guess what, yes the appeal was rejected after the discounted rate time period was over. Given the hassle and distress that she was undergoing for this incident I paid the full amount £70 on 28/11/2024.
Now to add insult to injury, She has received a debt collector letter on 7/01/2025 asking her for £170 as unpaid parking charges.
What a disgrace!!! Even if Excel parking services has no sympathy for what people go through surely it has to be accountable for its actions.
I am awaiting the company response having informed them that we have paid the fine. I hope they have the courtesy to send a apology for unending distress they causing.

one star rating, they deserve zero star.

Outrageous charges , highway robbery

Again would give a negative rating if I could as I wouldn’t trust this company under any circumstances! Interesting to hear that they backed down on one highly publicised case recently where they claimed that a female driver owed them over £1900 as she had failed to pay within their nonsensical time allowance using their absolutely rubbish App over a seven consecutive day period .
I used the Broomhill Sheffield Rooftop car park in September when I had to drive my wife to an urgent appointment at the Royal Hallamshire Hispital in Sheffield. I have used this car park for 40 years paying with cash with no problems. I have had recent major heart attack so had to wait near the car in view of steep climbs around this car park. I was driving my wife’s car unfortunately but had problems with the App as it did not work initially until I tried again using Applepay. It took payment and acknowledged this but did not print a ticket - paperless I thought so no problem but I paid within time limit but three weeks later received £100 I think PCN ! I was on holiday so I let my son- in - law speak to them and they said I just had to provide VAT receipt to cancel PCN.
I did this over a few weeks and was given an extension but the ANPR showed reg of car used whereas APp had paid using my car reg, both private and very similar . So I had not cost them anything lost any business or defrauded them - genuine unintentional modern technology hiccup as it did not tell me which reg had paid and never earned me no ticket!
I gave up fighting after a few weeks of stress and paid up within the period to reduce the charge.
Many patients at my dentist - Taptonville nearby have complained and changed dentist to avoid this car park. I know of several past users who have now clocked up claimed charges of thousands of pounds which remain unpaid after years with the occasional threat from Excel. Tesco got Excel removed from a store car park because of aggressive nature and frequency with which they imposed these charges. Nothing short of daylight robbery!

Festive town centre croooks

Firstly I am giving one star because no option for zero.
Received first letter from this bunch of nasty crooks several weeks late, I am disabled Blue Badge holder, I received the letter because did not buy a parking ticket, reason being I did not park my car! Entered car park recorded on camera , drove around looking for a space no Disabled available so excited car park from entry to exit 20mins
Still Blackmailed out of £60 - avoid these crooks.

Empty parking lot and even though I…

Empty parking lot and even though I paid and displayed some of the spots are permit holder only??? Does not say anywhere permit holder only instead a blue sign that has a bunch of legal waffle. I did this twice why would I park there intentionally and still pay for my ticket TWICE. Not like I took anybody’s spot the lot is always EMPTY. I appealed and proved I even paid for a ticket and that I’m a student and now I have to pay 120 in fines because they rejected my appeal. Awful awful company. Horrible people.

Absolutely atrocious gang of thieves

Absolutely atrocious gang of thieves. Was issued a parking fine after finally finding a parking space on a busy Christmas shopping Saturday, not only did the ticket machine conveniently stop working but the app took its sweet time to download and then wouldn’t allow me to logon. All in all was in the car park trying to park for 19minutes before I had to leave to park elsewhere. I appealed the fine, sent evidence and all I got back was the fine stands as i had 10 minutes grace and I should have phone the helpline, phoned them for something I didn’t know I had done, great advice said no one. I would avoid all excel parking services carparks, they will bum you dry.

QR code dishonesty and lack of compassion/common sense

Parked in one of their car parks. Scanned QR code and paid. Turns out the QR code was linked to a different car park and I didn’t know and shouldn’t have expected this as QR codes are unique but seems this one is programmed to a different place. Got a PCN, appealed and was rejected despite submitting receipt for payment at the same time on PCN photos showing I could not be in a different car park at the same time I was in the one on the PCN and I had made a payment. So dishonest of them to reject as it is the same company so money goes to the same company. Now I have to pay £60 as a student which I cannot afford when I had already paid to park there using the QR code in the car park I was stood and parked in. Devastated. I hope their children who are new to parking and driving never come across such uncaring and mean people.
UPDATE - I parked again in this car park a few days after so no idea I had even been directed to the wrong QR from before and have ended up with another PCN as I scanned the QR in the car park and paid as before assuming the QR in the car park is for that car park.
I am going to end up paying hundreds because of a dodgy scam QR despite having proof I had paid at the correct time and days to the same company. Not sure how I am going to pay this as I only have a certain allowance for the month as I am a student and can only work part time. Why can the people at Excel not use their common sense and humility. This has caused so much mental health impact as I did as I should and scanned the QR and paid. Shame on you excel.
FUTHER UPDATE
I have now paid all the PCN which has meant not going to college some days due to funds. I have now emailed to ask for the £21.60 back I paid in good faith to park as by their own admission my payment was not valid so if it was not valid then refund it as to keep it would be to contradict their wording on their appeals letter.
PLEASE NO-ONE EVER PARK IN THEIR CAR PARKS ESPECIALLY IF ELDERLY, INFIRM, DISABLED OR NEW TO DRIVING AND PARKING. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT THE DIRECTORS HAVE FAMILY. MAYBE THEY NEED TO IMAGINE IT IS THEIR FAMILY ENCOUNTERING ISSUES WITH THEIR CAR PARKS. A BUSINESS CAN BE RUN WITH UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION AND STILL MAKE A PROFIT.
PITY ZERO STARS IS NOT AN OPTION.

Only given 1 star as there is no option…

Only given 1 star as there is no option for a Zero. Do not use these bunch of robbers for any parking and if you see there signage move on and find an alternative car park. Just had to pay a fine because apparently I was outside the allocated time on arrival, however this was down to the machines not working and the app not working properly. Tried to appeal but this was rejected. Do not use or if you have to do it at your own peril. Darlington Council you should be ashamed to have appointed these bunch of bandits to run your car parks.

Do not use any carpark managed by this…

Do not use any carpark managed by this company, absolute charlatans. I parked in Hitchin and read the notice on how to pay. I went onto their website but every time I entered my details it was telling me information was incorrect. I tried registering but it told me I already had an account (I didn't remember ever registering with them). I tried calling the number on the notice but as (I'm presuming) it was a Sunday I just got an automated response and couldn't speak to anyone. I eventually left the car park intending to call them the following day. On returning I tried going onto their site again and it was then it dawned on me that I was now using a different car and I must have registered previously with them using my previous car registration. On realising this I logged in (using my previous car reg), added my new Reg number and paid for the time I had been parked. I later recevied a penalty fine which I contested, which they didn't accept, quoting various reasons, one of which was that I could have called their helpline (which I clearly stated in my challenge I had tried to do without success). If I want to take this further I can, but then I lose the reduced penalty fee and it goes up to £100 if my claim fails. They really have this game sown up, if I could give them no stars I would and will definitely not use any carpark managed by them again.

Unethical and unreasonable business practices

I was fined for parking here even though I made extensive efforts to pay, with their app off choice, the only one available at the time, which kept getting stuck, leaving me uncertain whether the payment went through or not. I spent more time trying to pay, than the time I was away from the car, having a stressful and frustrating experience. I appealed and they rejected my appeal and the case is now with the adjudicator. I have to confess I have paid for parking charges before, when I've accidentally selected the wrong reg number on the app or overstayed my paid time, so I am not averse to paying when it makes sense to. This company however has an exploitative and unreasonable model - instead of apologizing for the distress and time loss they have caused me, they are trying to make money on top. I find this deeply unethical.

Stay away from excel carparks

Stay away from excel carparks, even if it's the only carpark available.
I'd rather park on double yellow lines and risk a fine.
Got a charge even though I'd paid.
Turns out you only get a 5 minute window to pay.
