eBay will introduce a new buyers fee, along with an update that will see sellers only receive payment once the buyer has confirmed they've received their item
eBay is set to introduce several new changes for millions of users next year - including a new fee for buyers and delaying payments for sellers.
The online selling platform will introduce the new buyers fee next year, although no date has been set yet. This is an extra charge that will be paid by buyers when they purchase an item on eBay - it comes on top of the price of the actual item that they’re buying.
We've asked eBay if the buyer fee will be a fixed charge or a percentage of the sale price and we'll update this article when we get a response. Vinted and Depop have both introduced buyer fees in recent years.
Another major change eBay is introducing, is delaying when private sellers receive payment until the item is confirmed to have been delivered. This means sellers will not get paid until their buyer confirms they have received the item. This will come into force from February 4, 2025.
Finally, private sellers will soon be forced to pay for their postage through eBay. They will have to confirm the size of their parcel through eBay’s “simple delivery managed shipping” system, which is already available for private sellers who list pre-owned clothing.
The expansion of this to other types of listings will happen in early 2025, although no exact date has been confirmed yet. The Sun reports that eBay will start by allowing private sellers to “opt out” of using its method of shipping before making it compulsory.
It comes after eBay removed all selling fees in October. This means sellers keep more of the cash they make through the website, as they no longer pay final value fees, regulatory operating fees, or an insertion fee when they sell on eBay.
The only exception to this new rule is motor sales, as fees will still be in place for the sales of cars, motorcycles and vehicle listings. The site removed selling fees on all fashion items earlier this year. The platform removed selling fees on its German site last year and saw a rise in both sellers and buyers.
eBay says the move will help households as research conducted by the company found that half of British households have unused items in their home worth between £50 and £300. Nearly a quarter are believed to be sitting on items worth over £500.

The last time, the delivery boy pressed the door bell. My girlfriend buzzed him inside the apartment building. She opened the door to hear if he came in. She buzzed a few more time.
He didn't even go in! And then they write my mail, saying no one was home to receive the package. He should go up to the 2nd floor, where I ordered the package to!!
Unacceptable Payout Delays and Ineffective Support
I have been a loyal eBay seller, but my recent experience has left me no choice but to stop selling until my funds are released. My account has been under review for payouts—a process that eBay claims should take 6-87 days. However, it has now been over a month with no resolution in sight.
I’ve contacted customer support numerous times, and while the representatives are polite and try to be helpful, they seem powerless to do anything. The payout department has no explanation for the delay and insists everything "looks fine." Each time, I’m told an investigation will be conducted, and I’ll receive a callback the next day, but no one ever follows through.
This entire process makes no sense, and the lack of transparency and action from eBay has been extremely frustrating. Until my funds are released—which I have no idea when or if that will happen—I’ve decided to stop selling on the platform entirely.
eBay needs to seriously address these delays and improve their processes to maintain seller trust.
No ordered item, no money refund: eBay is a fraud supporter
I have not received the ordered iPhone and no money refund. I have received the beer can in the package instead. :( eBay is obliged to report the IMEI serial number to prevent fraud and check the weight of the package, which they both denied. Over the years eBay has become the shit you skid on in the dark.
They allow sellers to scam you, then when you try to request help and refunds, you get bent over and battered by a hard brush by them and take you money and continue to support the scammers.
They allow scammers to make money from people believing they are buying in good faith.
Non-existent live customer service
Ebay will not allow you to talk to a live rep. Also, if a seller lies about a listing and you return it, the seller can keep all shipping fees, including to and from the buyer, even if the seller lied, and then ebay will consider the "case closed" and will not allow you to talk to a live rep, either online via their chat, or through the phone. Ebay will simply direct you to one of their "help" articles and wash its hands of you. Very very very poor business method. I get it, it saves ebay the cost of paying reps...but ebay is abandoning a part of its intrinsic function as a middleman, and is letting the seller basically get away with scamming the buyer in part. Trustpilot will not allow me to post the words I'd like to use to express my disappointment with ebay regarding this.
Terrible User interface without English
No language support or option to view Ebay details in English. In addition, I had placed an order on Ebay for a basketball jersey on a joint account of my wife and me. I placed this order on 08/July/2024 in order to go to the Olympics to watch Serbia Basketball MNT. Unfortunately, the Ebay order took my first name and my wife's first name for the order and I could not modify this detail. Due to this, a DHL delivery agent agent comes to our location, does not call us and just sends the package back to the seller, without any intimation. While the seller did refund us, Ebay really needs to update their user interface and accommodate more languages.

I asked the seller kindly to contact postNL to start an investigation (if that does not succeed the seller can get his money back) he refuses. An Auction is highest bidder wins the auction at a given time and date . Once the end time has come then the highest bidder wins the item . I was cheated out of an item because the seller was not happy with the price and CANCELED the sale after the auction ended and Ebay.de allowed the seller to cancel after sending me that I have won the bid and was the highest bidder . It is known now why Ebay.de are losing customers .

I will never list on EBAY again
I will never list on EBAY again. They allowed a buyer to return a brand new item as damaged and not working. When returned it worked as it should and didn't have the damage the buyer claimed. Despite admitted to me the buyer returned a working item that was sold no return. They stood with the buyer. Costing me $60.00 out of pocket in shipping and destroying the value what had been a new in the box product. It's not worth it to list with EBAY when the risk of huge losses for EBAY allowing buyers to lie. They admit he lied and leave me hanging. I could not even leave a negative review for the buyer to warn other sellers.
