EBAY TOOK OVER 300.00 POUNDS FROM ACCOUNT FOR NO REASON

Last February, I sold a MacBook Air on EBay by auction for about 315.00 UK pounds. Before I had seen the message for the sale, the buyer had NOT only paid BUT also cancelled.
According to EBay rules, as I had not posted it, I had to agree to cancellation. This I did.
As I received NO money from EBay I left it.
A few months later, going through my bank statements in detail I discover EBay had charged my card the refund of exactly the amount the buyer paid. From the time the buyer won the MacBook to refund was just over 9.5 hours.
EBay now claim they had paid me (into my bank account) the amount due (minus their fees) and then the chargeback was for the full 315.00 pounds.
There are several flaws in their argument. Firstly, when a refund is made, EBay fees are returned and so this part would NOT have been charged to me again. Secondly, from the initial payment by the buyer to the amount reaching my bank account takes 2-3 days to process and NOT less than 9.5 hours 9especially at night!!!). Finally, had I received the payment, this would have certainly showed up in my bank statement BUT there is NO evidence of this.
When I realised the discrepancy (04.08.2024) whilst scrutinising my statements, I contacted EBay support and spoke to an agent. This agent, after checking everything, agreed that an error had been made. He said he would put me through to their refunds department to get the matter sorted. I was told this would only take about 10 minutes. I waited over 2 hours on hold only to be cut off!!!
On 06.08.2024, I contacted EBay support again. EBay called me back. This time I spoke to a lady. Initially, she too agreed with what the earlier representative had said. Then she began to state that I was incorrect. I.e. EBay would NOT make this type of error. In fact, she claimed I had been paid and the fact it did not show in my bank statements did not matter. However, after my continued persistence, she agreed to put me through to accounts & refunds. I told her in no uncertain terms that I did not wish to be left on hold like the previous occasion. She said she would check before passing me on then then did so. SILLY ME!!! Again, I ended up being left on hold for another 2 hours and then, like before, was cut off.
EBAY WILL QUICKLY TAKE MONEY FROM YOU BUT WILL NOT RETURN WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS!!!

You cant delete you Bank Account

Be careful guys after you sell something or buy some stuff you can't delete your Bank account information I was an eBay user since 25.05.2013, and I just notice this on 24.07.2024 I added my bank account on the site to receive the payment of a product I just sold like 1 or 2 months ago, and after I notice you can't delete you Bank account from the site I directly made an account deletion request/short story why is important to be able to delete your bank info: I sold a product as private without return and refund because it was a private sell, and after I send the package and got the money I got the packet back because the buyer refused to take it, and it came back as a return
the next day I wake up and see an email from eBay they took the money from my account Respectively they put an - on my balance, and they would take the money from my bank account the next day, but it was a private sell without refund or return somehow the buyer tricked eBay to do this, and I had to call them to get the balance back to 0 and tell the whole thing that I was a private buyer/seller and the law dosnt say I need to accept a refund or return they solved the problem fast but when I read the email it said (Our customer service has made a final decision) so if I would not pay attention to my emails they would scam me and take the money from my account without my allowance I don't like this so that's why I deleted my account I bought like 3 or 4 things and sold like 3 4 items I always knew eBay is kind a tricky I had friend who bought things and received stones and things like that they got the money back but still not worth the time

Appalling and dehumanising

where to begin? The systems are awful and make atrocious use of AI. The waiting time for a call back will be at least twice the 'estimated time'. The staff absolutely do not care and just read generic garbage off a script, promising this will fix the issue, just so they can get you off the phone. They treat you like you're not a person. Ebay has worse service than Flixbus and Viagogo, and that is saying something. They don't even publicise an email where you can complain. Horrendous company to be avoided if at all possible.

eBay Doesn't Protect Customers' Rights

I am writing to express my frustration and disappointment with the handling of my recent purchase. I have repeatedly communicated the following points, but I continue to receive automated and unhelpful responses:

1. **Delivery Issues**: I live alone, and my building requires an access card for entry. Therefore, it is impossible for the shipping company to deliver any items without direct access, which they do not have. No one is available to receive packages on my behalf due to the building’s access restrictions.

2. **Communication with Seller**: Since May 22 (10 days ago), I have been in contact with the seller to address the non-delivery of my item. I have requested proof of delivery, including the recipient’s signature, as required for any delivery confirmation. No such proof has been provided.

3. **Platform Responsibility**: I made my purchase through your platform and paid through your services. It is your responsibility to protect my rights as a customer. Given that I did not receive the item, I am entitled to a full refund.

Despite explaining this situation multiple times via messages to the seller, live chat, and emails, I continue to receive the same repetitive responses that do not address my concerns or resolve the issue.

I am formally requesting a refund of my money within the next three days. If my refund is not processed promptly, I will escalate this matter by filing a complaint with the European Consumer Centre (ECC) and pursuing legal action. Additionally, I will share my experience on social media to inform others about the lack of support and accountability from your platform.

Please take this matter seriously and process my refund immediately. I expect a human response and a resolution, not another automated reply.

Buyers Beware!

I've been an eBay user for more years than I care to remember. A recent experience has been a real eye opener, as to the way it's changed in it's attitude towards buyers.
Dishonest Sellers are now able to Duck & Dive with impunity.
I know that some people of my age and location type, have come to rely on
buying on-line.
We just need to be aware that things have changed considerably where eBay is concerned.

EBay have become shambolic

EBay have become a shambolic , inept platform . I have traded since 2014 on this platform, I have an accountant, all good with HMRC , sent all my accounts to eBay for last 4 years , and still have my account suspended. They won’t give me a reson why . So Yesterday I have requested at Freedom of Information request, and within an hour I get a call to say my documents will be sent to the back office team for review. My advice is as for the FFI , they will ask for driving licence copy sent and bank statements, but give it a go . They really are spineless , . I asked a call handler if they have qualifications, and you’ve guessed it . It was NO . What right do they have to override HMRC and accountancy details .

Postage calculator shambolic.

Postage calculator. What a complete shambles. This time I had to pay 5 quid more than calculated by Ebay. And if you select another option such as package size it tells you it's incorrect for the item. You can't talk to anyone about it. You suck it up and keep paying the extra. Why? I looked on the community page and it says this is often a problem. That the calculator is notoriously bad. I picked Royal Mail 24 tracked this time.. But the Post Office said its not active service yet! So I paid 12.75 instead of 7.49 to post the item. And Ebay won't reimburse you. They just say calculate your own fees. Then 1 of 2 things happen. It either says you've chosen the wrong option for the item or the buyers complains you charge excessive postal fees. Ebay UK is generally poor. You have to know the formula for Rubix cube to get through to actually speak with a human. So no point phoning them regarding postage because they'll say just put in your own fees.... Even though 9 out of 10 times it won't let you complete the listing because it says you've chosen wrong option. Ebay used to be good. Not anymore.

Ebay is in free fall

Ebay is in free fall. The community references are no longer useful customer service is useless. Their criteria to solve problems are questionable and, in resume, they are shambles. It´s the best place for thieves and conmen. Finally, I was robbed after several times close and value mislead. We need to find somewhere else to buy. RIP eBay.

EU buyers beware

EU buyers beware! eBay has a 30-day window for warranties and complaints that ignore EU´s universal 2 year right to complain.

After the 30 days, pro sellers know you can´t actually reach them, because their phone numbers/business addresses are typically hidden ("for safety"). And customer service won´t help you after that point.

And that´s illegal: You cannot leave your customers worse off than the 2 year EU-backed warranty.

Check out this transcript from customer service today, if you don´t believe me:
"Thank you for reaching us regarding this. Upon checking here We will need you to message the seller again Emerald as the seller did not noticed the notification as we cannot step in on this case as this was passed our return window policy.
Dharen Khitz
Pleas do extend your patience on trying to contact your seller
Dharen Khitz
I think that is pretty wild. In the EU you have 2 years to complain if a product is faulty. With this 30 day window - if a product is faulty after that time - eBay is ignoring the buy laws of a lot of countries - not just in the EU.
I understand Emerald however ebay have its return policy and cannot be breached. Please do consider to return your items within the return window to be covered by ebay money back guarantee
Dharen Khitz
but eBay can´t offer conditions that are worse than the law in the country they operate - I am sure you are well aware of that.
You are asking me to write a seller that knows full well that they can just ignore my email because they are protected by eBay after 30 days!
I hope you understand that we do not protect the seller after 30 days as they are on their own and the agreement will be with the both of you and we won't intervene as there is no option for us to step in.
Dharen Khitz
indirectly eBay protects the seller by having this 30 day cut off window.
If you were the seller Emerald. Would you still accept the return after 30 days. For me personally no because I cannot say if they have used the item multiple times.
Dharen Khitz
I think this needs to go up on Trustpilot.com so especially people in the EU can see that eBay are breaching local law.
ebay policy won't be here if it was not approved by the law Emerald
Dharen Khitz
I disagree. The 30 day cutoff prevents buyers from reaching sellers in a meaningful way. Ebay prevents buyers from reaching sellers outside of Ebay and the access to complain under EU law is clearly removed.
That way buyers are worse off than the law, and that isn´t legal.
I´m copy / pasting this on Trustpilot tonight thank you for your time.
I totally understand you on this Emerald however the is no breaching of local law. Does stores have policy? they do. Even commercial restaurants, hardware, medical stores and hospitals. They have their own policy.
Dharen Khitz
And I believe that I have provided you the informations needed today. Please do have a goodnight a take care
Dharen Khitz"

How is this a multi-national company? One of the worst platforms and an even worse customer service around.

My account got suspended minutes after opening it. When I tried to contact the customer service, all they had to say was this:

“Your account has been suspended because the pattern of activities we have witnessed present a risk to our eBay community.

As previously mentioned, this suspension is permanent. You will not be able to participate in any buying or selling activities on eBay. In addition, any other accounts that you own, or that are associated with this account, will also be suspended. As per the policy we will be not able to provide specific information in this matter.”

Let me explain their inadequacy in more detail:

1) The only “activity” that I have performed was opening an account and verfiying my contact information, to make my account more trusted.

2) Funny enough, they have the misconception that they are one of the best regulated marketplaces in the internet but they cannot differentiate between scammers running virtual servers and normal customers/sellers who are willing to verify their contact info.

3) Not only they block every possible avenue to use their services, they also refuse to explain WHY you got banned!

4) Before you contact their customer service, understand that they are not willing to help you at all. They send you an email to make you feel like they are taking you seriously, but the reality is that they simply do not care to solve the problem.

5) When you ask them why they cannot share WHY you got banned, they say that they cannot explain as it makes them “vulnerable to threats”. If by “threats”, they mean “lawsuits”, then they should maybe focus on sellers who are scamming customers first, rather than punishing people who are simply signing up for the first time and have not participated in any activity offered by the marketplace in the first place.

It is shocking to see that they believe that they are “the best regulated marketplace” on the internet. However, what they consider to be “regulation”, is actually a very concerning shortcoming which leads to rejection of actual customers rather than the scammers who have multiple profiles to sell items and circumvent potential negative evaluations, simply by using virtual servers.

I normally do not think so badly about a business but I will make sure that I will talk badly about ebay whenever it is mentioned. It is shocking how a business modeled around such a poor moderating system can remain in market.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use this platform to buy and/or sell anything. They leave you vulnerable to scammers while making your life as miserable as possible over very simple trivial matters. There are many more interesting platforms who actually keep the best interests of their customers at heart. I would not use this platform even if it is the last one standing in the world.
