Charged me £40 to amend the date on my booking. About 10 minutes after making the booking. It said. If you amend within 24 hours there is no charge. Yet they charged me an extra £40 amendment fee.
So being annoyed about being over charged £40 I looked at cancelling my £108 ferry which cost me £154.99. And they said I will owe them £3.01 to cancel. What a scam company.
How come you charged me £40 to amend my booking? The travel dates was the same price. And I amended it the same day as I booked?

Absolutely excellent
My experience with Direct Ferries so far has been excellent. Made multiple bookings for a family motorhome trip to Sicily via Sardinia in August 2025. Needed to add a passenger to several crossings for my son’s friend who is joining us for part of the trip, which Direct Ferries did with ease for a reasonable additional fee. I discovered that I had got his name wrong on the bookings and they changed it within 24 hours without fuss. We then decided that we wanted to depart from a different port for one of the crossings. The tickets I had bought allowed amendment of crossing date/time but didn’t give the option to change the actual route and were non-refundable. However, I contacted Direct Ferries via their out of hours online automated chat service to explain the situation and less than 24 hours later they have cancelled the original booking and issued new tickets for our preferred route. The employees I have dealt with each time have been polite, helpful and professional. Will certainly be using them again.
Strongly recommend avoiding
Strongly recommend avoiding Direct Ferries and booking directly through ferry companies. With Direct Ferries it will (probably) all go fine until it doesn't.
A few highlights to note -
- If you take their cancellation insurance you need to provide 48 hours notice. This isn't highlighted so be aware.
- In my case, I paid for a change of date but when it came through the dates were different from what I paid for. Of course, you don't expect to be sold a different product from what you paid for so I didn't triple check the email.
- Their costumer service is chat only, through the app. They disappear when the hours are over leaving issues unresolved. In any case they need to call the ferry operator and are on hold to them like everyone else.
In short - just avoid these guys and book directly with operators (even if it looks like they got you a good deal).

The communication upfront is not effective
The communication upfront is in Spanish language. I paid extra to get information by whats app. and it is only in Spanish. I cannot reply to the message and my request for English is not working. also not on the website or on the email conformation. the link with adres of the harbour location is not working in the email. and it is not written. If I ask it in the chat they do not reply. The bot does not understand. And the location is not given. So I have to look for the adres myself. No where on the website it is found where the terminal is.
This is about the proces before hand.

Tickets had the wrong time and we missed our boat because of it.
We've had an awful experience using Direct Ferries. We have decided to avoid Direct Ferries in the future and I would recommend everyone to do the same.
We had bought retour boat tickets with this company for our holidays. However, for our return trip our tickets and email notifications all had the WRONG TIME. The time on the tickets were later than the actual departure time and we've missed the boat because of this and had to scramble around to find and pay for new hotel arrangements and we had to pay the cancelation fees of our original hotel reservations that we've missed due to this incident.
We've tried to reach out to them through the Dutch part of their service desk, however they've been extremely antagonistic, denying everything and eventually claiming that we've "changed" the travel arrangement and are therefore denying responsibility. We have not changed our arrangement in any way and Direct Ferries has been unwilling to give any proof that we did. Without our consent or approval they have closed our case, leaving us with no other communication options.
I am perplexed that companies can do stuff like this and easily deny any responsibility. I'm leaving this review as a warning to others in the hope they can avoid a dreadful experience like us.
This is just a fraud
This is just a fraud, not a real business, be careful about your money and time, I had a very bad experience with this, I booked a return ferry ticket from Wellington to Pectin, it costed me around 1000nzd later on I noticed this was a fraud business because I couldn’t cancel or change my booking. It is very slow and nonsense.

Service? What is that?
When you need customerservice, you are on your own. Terrible respons time, when they respond at all. If they respond, they don’t help you. Book directly by the Company. Is always cheaper and they care about you.
Never, never again. It has cost me al lot of money and even more frustration.
Okay, direct ferries respond quickly on my review. See underneath this review. So it is possible. But what they say is not correct at all. Finally I have had to change the booking at the quay of colorline. Two hours for departure. They were willing to help me. It would be nice when direct Ferries would contact me instead of reacting on my review.
Direct ferries reacts again very quickly. They also have updated the response of my review. Unfortunate, they have the facts wrong. The last communication was from my side with the time mentioned by direct ferries. With a “cry for help” :why they did not react, my ferry was leaving within 24 hours. It is better to leave the complete correspondence so everyone can judge for them selves. @direct ferries: do you share the correspondence or shall I do that? By the way, you still haven’t respond directly to me.
