BEWARE- There is a 12 MONTH exclusion in the small print-for almost all dental procedures except the most basic- like cleanings !!!!!
Misleading Benefits
The main problem with DeltaCare is that it's misleading. You will quickly find out that the plan does not cover essential medications the dentist needs during the procedures or important procedures to take care of your problem. You think it's an isolated problem with one provider and discover it's the same with all providers (today was my third try). You're better off with a regular dental insurance, even if your out of pocket expense is high. At least you won't be misled and will know what you need to budget for. I would assign 0 stars if that were an option.
Delta Dental Insurance
Delta Dental Insurance. Been paying premiums for years. Finally received a reimbursement check in the amount of $168.00 on a claim. Deposited the check and they had stopped payment on it!!! I submitted an email inquiry because you can’t ever reach a human being by phone. The auto reply says give them 3-5 business days…it’s been 2 weeks and not one attempt of a response. I will see this through.
My experience with Delta Dental…Delta Dental Insurance: Incompetent and Unresponsive
My experience with Delta Dental Insurance has been nothing short of a nightmare. They denied my claims for a crown and filling, leaving me to cover the costs out of pocket. When I decided to cancel my policy, I discovered that they don't even provide a customer service phone number on their website. Instead, I had to use their cumbersome contact form.
I submitted my cancellation request (tracking number EP202406070166) and received an automated response stating I would hear back in 3-5 business days. That was 11 days ago, and I still haven't received any follow-up. Their lack of response is infuriating and unacceptable.
Out of sheer frustration, I canceled my auto-payment to them, hoping that might get their attention. This company is terrible to deal with—unresponsive, unhelpful, and unreliable. Avoid Delta Dental at all costs.
NOTICE OF DATA BREACH letter
Hear you go people........theses yahoos have sent me a letter about how my identity information was compromised.......what does ATT do they tell you that you have to jump through their hoops to sign up for identity protection.......hmmmm since this is the fault of att it is their responsibility to automatically take care of this to protect their customers. I have called them about this numerous times with no response.
Delta Dental has is more concerned about GREED than taking care of their customers.
this company is the worse ever

Delta Dental Denial of My Treatment Claims
Delta Dental has denied my recent dental claim (Case ID: APP-279300), due to the plan waiting period requirements. This waiting period is six whole months!
In my case, I enrolled in Delta Dental while I was working for a large company in 2022. I left that company on April 15 of 2022. I continued Delta Dental insurance through enrollment in California COBRA. This coverage continued for another 18 months until it expired on October 15, 2023.
On September 26, 2023, that is couple of weeks before my COBRA coverage ended in month of October, I contacted Delta Dental by phone and requested that my dental coverage continues after October 15th of 2023. The sale representative advised that I must enroll in a personal plan which has a higher premium. I agreed and the sale representative provided a brief outline of my coverage, including $50 deductible as well as coverage for all preventive care, two times a year. The sales representative never mentioned the 6-month waiting period requirements! I provided my credit card number, and I was charged $139.84 that included $10.00 Enrollment Fee and premium for the next two months. One could verify the contents of my phone conversation through Delta Dental phone recording with their sale representative during plan registration, as well as the letter I received from Delta Dental including the Insurance card, indicating “Payment received since your previous bill -$139.84”. Note that my previous bill to Delta Dental was through COBRA coverage. I was glad that I had all the basis covered and that my dental insurance was/is continuous from the last company to COBRA and then on to my personal premium Delta Dental Plan.
Now Delta Dental says that my “effective” Dental coverage was set to begin December 1, 2023! And, because of a 2.5-month gap, I need to pay for another 6 months, a total of 7 months of premium (since Delta Dental charges you an extra month ahead of the due-date month) without any coverage! Another word one is covered 6 out of 13 months of payment! Is this just/right?
Delta Dental PPO Plan (broker-booklet-ca.pdf) states “Plans purchased on or after the 15th of the month have effective date options of: the first of the next month, the 15th of the next month, the first of the month after next or the 15th of the month after next. • For example, a plan purchased on July 15 can be effective August 1, August 15, September 1 or September 15.” So, my coverage should have been effective in November or October 2023 after my purchase on September 26, 2023. In the same online booklet, “Limitations & exclusions” there is no mention of the 6-month period requirement.
Furthermore, Delta Dental never sent any brochure of any kind whatsoever to me explaining this “effective” date and the “6-month waiting period”. The Delta Dental sale representative also never brought up and/or explained any of these requirements. She was only interested in my credit card number and the charges!
In Delta Dental denial letter dated March 28, 2024, Ms. Kim Wang of Delta Dental refers to “Combined Policy and Disclosure From” and its Attachment A and other references to its pages explaining my dental insurance coverage. As I mentioned, Delta Dental never sent any of its policy or its coverage or contract requirements to me or explained by their sales representative. The online search for Delta Dental yields numerous results …. I gave up initially after trying few to establish an account.
Delta Dental must honor its obligation to fully inform its customers of their coverage requirements not only through their sales representatives but also via mailing their contract requirements, giving reviewing time and enabling customers to agree/disagree with its terms. Delta Dental should stop deceiving current and potential customers by providing its fancy and glamorous coverages via advertisements but hiding its plan requirements and denying claims when dental treatments are needed.
They will take your money and never…
They will take your money and never send you a card and tell you they can't find you in their system. But continue taking money from your paycheck.
I tried online portal. I can't be found. I had to call FEDVIP and have them contact them to speak with them and surprise they can find me and will send me a card. A month later, I have a booklet of my coverage with no card or info for me to actually schedule with the dentists.
Try and call them again.. suddenly I can't be found again. I don't care how much you love your dentist, if this is the only insurance they take find a new dentist.
They denied 3 crowns in a row
They denied 3 crowns in a row. During the last 5 years I needed some crowns as fillings were not an option. I visited 2 different dental offices for them Delta kept denying claims. Both dentists said it was necessary but Delta kept saying no to them. I was in huge pain and the insurance did nothing in the last 5 years I paid out of pocket for all my dental crown procedures. This company is a scam at best
Really bad customer service
Really bad customer service, good luck getting your bill paid.
Just crooks
Refused coverage for ridiculous reason - claimed that the implant was not covered because "the tooth never existed since we don't have a record of extraction". If I were born without that tooth, there would be no room install the implant but any sort of reasoning that doesn't contribute to their bottom line simply does not exist.
Ridiculously low allowed amounts
The amount they "allow" is absurdly low. All dentists in our area no longer will bill them and only do reimbursement. We pay 50% of every bill. Delta Dental will put itself out of business by being so greedy and disrespectful to clients and dentists alike.
Horrible rip off
Horrible rip off. Take your premiums and then don't pay.
Delta Dental Insurance misleads it's subscribers! Shame on you Delta Dental!!!
On their website it clearly states that they pay 50% of the charges whether the Dentist is in network or nonparticipating dentist. Turns out Delta has a limit for dentures of $1000. The dentist is charging me $2500 and since he's not in network he won't accept what the Insurance approves. No where on Delta Dental's website does it say that their limit is $1000 for dentures. Shame on you Delta!
Autocharged me for friend’s insurance renewal!
Paid for a friends insurance a year ago, for Delta Dental.
This year, since my card was apparently kept on file, they auto charged me to renew friends insurance.
When called, they *can’t* reverse/correct their own charges, said I must contact my credit card as a dispute.
In what world is this okay?
As aside, my friend confirmed their experience was same as others here: providers won’t take Delta, many services aren’t covered, or at small rates.
Delta Dental is predatory and dangerous!
Stay away from Delta Dental. I have the most expensive Delta Dental plan through my employer and they barely cover anything. I recently had a routine visit with X-rays and one bonding and I had to pay nearly $150 out of pocket. They were allegedly dropped by my last dentist for predatory and dangerous rules. For example: approving cheaper, less effective treatments than what was recommended by the dentist for higher profits on DD’s end. Many dentists have dropped them for this and other reasons.
This company is a joke
Don't go here. Don't call here. Rudest people I've ever dealt with in my 49 years of living. Don't waste your money or your time. They are no help now not in the future. The only descent person was the operator who tried to help.
good problem solving
they refused to pay for my dentures that I was definitely covered for. The said that I lost my teeth before coverage began. This is not accurate.
I reached out by email and they promptly rectified the situation
Alan
First, I made an appointment with my dentist and later found out that the appointment was two(2) days earlier than the allotted time. The appointment was for my 6 month cleaning ONLY! Two day would have made no difference but they declined my claim even after a grievance filing. Contacted to pay bill. No response from my email, over two weeks.
I wish I could give 0 stars!!
I wish I could give 0 stars!!! I was denied numerous times for a procedure that’s clearly covered as long as it’s “a medical concern” in which it absolutely was!! My dentist submitted more than enough info and they still proceeded to deny my claim! Telling me what they clearly tell everyone else, send something in writing to appeal. Are you serious?? I have to go through all of this because y’all want my procedure to be considered cosmetic when it absolutely was not. Of course it helped my smile but the initial and only reason I got the procedure done was because of how bad my gums had got. I could barely touch my mouth without my gums bleeding, they were swollen, they hurt, etc. $5400 I had to pay. Keep asking for new info and there’s no new info!!!!!
