Delta doesn't pay for anything. That's the whole idea of insurance. My wife needed wisdom teeth removed. They paid a pittance. Not even worth it. Then, of course they dictate to the dentist what they... See more

So bad I might change Medicare Advantage plans
Their "customer service" is so bad that I'm thinking about changing my Medicare Advantage to one that does not use Delta. They keep sending mail to my old address and will not update it. Their automated system runs me in circles. When I finally reached someone, they were just as useless. I had to explain this several times, only to b told that they can't change my address.
This isn't an insurance company, its a well organized scam operation!
I got stuck with Delta as my employer offered dental benefit provider a few years ago and have not had one good experience dealing with them since. I've had to change dentists several times because they all keep dropping off the "preferred provider" list due to the sub par reimbursement rates, now leaving me with no remaining "preferred providers" in my area that are accepting new patients. Claims from non-preferred in network providers are denied without notification and there's no one in customer service you can speak to directly to dispute the denial.
I recently lost a crown because it was improperly done, and the claim got denied because it was less than 5 years from the time it was originally installed. They should be going back after the dentist that installed the crown, not denying a claim of the person paying the insurance premium for necessary work.
I almost forgot that I enrolled in…
I almost forgot that I enrolled in this, because they don't send you any correspondence whatsoever. You cannot even check you benefits because you need your member ID to log in, which they do not provide to you after enrollment. The point is for you to forget that you have it. Never again.
The worst customer service and website
The worst customer service and website. They can GET nothing corrected. You are given a new phone number to call for everything. OH, question with the web portal, call this number. Issue with a bill call this number. Issue with mailing address, call this number. AND THEIR WEB site ALLOWS has some issue that causes it to crash. Phone or lap top it does not matter. Try get help, it will take 7 business days for them to MAYBE get it resolved. OR EVEN UP TO 30 DAYS. I cannot be the only who is suffering through this.
Just don't…
January ’24 my wife opened a Delta Dental (DD) insurance policy to have her wisdom teeth removed. No other reason to have dental insurance as she has full dentures. She paid the first installment of $127.80 and an automatic payment plan was set up through our bank at the time. First autopay was to be the following month but it never occurred. Then in late January my wife became very ill with gastric issues, constantly throwing up, a dozen surgeries later she’s still suffering. She never used the (DD) insurance although she had contacted a dentist who asked for her membership number which she had never received…
Earlier this year we were gathering receipts for taxes she came across the initial (DD) payment. Whats odd is she only had the one payment, no communication what so ever from DD concerning the auto-payment, no letters, emails, phone calls smoke signals NOTHING. We have been told that (DD) sent eight USPS letters and made numerous attempts to via phone calls, no record of any of those calls missed or otherwise. All lies as we never received any communications from (DD)…
A couple of months ago my wife called (DD) for the purpose of asking for a refund on the unused policy. The man who would not give his name asked for her membership number, which she’d never received. Not getting anywhere with this person my wife asked to speak to a supervisor. The response was “You don’t need to talk to a supervisor I know everything”. Obviously this man should not be working in customer service as he’s far to valuable for such a menial position…
My wife handed this situation over to me as she was understandably upset. I called AARP the associated company. Spoke to Angela who listened and said she would forward our request for a refund on to the “escalations department”. I was told how and where online to file a grievance form which I did. The very next day we received a letter from (DD) informing us that there was a 180 day policy on grievance claims. Any excuse to get out of a refund…
A month and a half later I received a call from Miriam of AARP basically saying that (DD) was not going to refund anything and due to non payment they had closed the policy in late February ’24, but once again there was no communication from (DD) on anything relating to auto payments not going through, no letters, emails, phone calls etc. just close the policy and don’t bother telling the customer…
This morning another call from AARP again explaining that (DD) would not be refunding any monies on a policy that was never used. I explained to the woman that this small refund would wind up costing (DD) much more over the course of time as both my wife and I would write bad reviews about (DD’s) lack of concern for the customer. She obviously didn’t care either…
So my advice when shopping for dental insurance, don’t even consider Delta Dental as they lie about everything and have an excuse to cover every scenario.
Delta Dental of California Scam
I am extremely disappointed with the way Delta Dental of California has handled my recent dental claim. The denial of coverage for a medically necessary crown procedure—on the grounds that it was cosmetic—was not only unexpected but also financially burdensome. At no point was I informed that such a determination could be made, and the lack of transparency and support throughout this process has been unacceptable.
This experience has led me to question the reliability and fairness of Delta Dental’s coverage policies. I urge others to carefully review their plan details and be cautious when relying on this provider for essential dental care
They won't refund your money, and ignore you
I canceled my policy before the start date. But it's been almost a year and they refuse to refund the $57.07 paid. I've reached out to multiple reps via phone and email. They all promise to get it resolved or get back to me. Nothing.
Terrrible service
Terrrible service. They just don't pay out! you send forms and details and they question everything until you have lost the will to live and drop the claim.
They are in the business of rejecting legitimate claims
I saw my dentist in Charleston who advised I needed a crown. I was leaving for 2 months in South Africa so I had dentist there make the crown. I have been fighting for Delta for months, first a crown was worth $111, I've sent them xrays etc. They now claim ?? and will pay $0.
What is even the point of having Delta insurance
Consistently pay significantly less than they state they will for covered procedures. Cleanings are supposed to be covered 100% on my plan; they pay less than 50%. Crowns are meant to be 50% covered; they pay less than 20%. I've decided I will be going without insurance and paying out of pocket as the savings with insurance are nowhere near enough to pay a monthly fee to this scam of an insurance company.
horrible cust service
ive had a plan for over a year,
added my 5 year old online - no issue
tried to add another person, couldnt do online, called, spent 15 mins on the phone, was told all set and a coverage start date - coverage start date has come and gone, no info - called again, they have no record of me calling the 1st time! so when i said well i tried online and it kept giving errors, i was told i cant do it online and needed to call. so i mentioned how i did online the 1st time, then they told me my whole plan was canceled! but yet ive been billed multiple times, if i didnt need the coverage so bad id cancel - horrible customer service
Repeated horrible experiences
I live overseas and have submitted valid out-of-network claims to Delta multiple times now. Each time, they do everything humanly possible to avoid paying by claiming that they never received the claims that were sent by mail. Some employees will say that one claim arrived, some say that none arrived, and every employee gives me contradictory answers each time, for an average of 20 times in a row, until things are finally solved and they finally send me payment. It feels as though they intentionally frustrate customers until they give up on making claims. They also refuse to digitize the process. Except that sometimes they will accept a fax or email. Other times not. There's nothing consistent about the process (except that it feels to me like a scam), and customer service is a joke. Will be filing official complaints against them.
Listing a non transparent provider
Despite my grievance to Delta Dental and a non returned phone call, Delta Dental keeps listing Greenberg Dental as a provider. Greenberg dental does not honor the set insurance fees stated in the booklet. Greenberg quote reflects an additional fictitious code D1111 called Cosmetic upgrade $500!! When I questioned this charge, I got two different answers from two locations. The first stated that the Doctor would not do the crown for $400! The other one stated that it is an insurance in the events it falls, the doctor will replace it!
I like the Individual Premier but...
I like the Individual Premier National Coverage plan but they don't offer Orthodontics for adults. My top teeth are loose caused by biting and need invisalign which is orthodontics, and they don't cover it. My Dentist says they get Delta Dental ortho patients all the time but I have no clue why this is so confusing.
Pure Scam!
Delta Dental Insurance is well designes scheme for scamming people. Their sale person told me a very nice story and how well they can cover my dental needs. In actuality, they really don't cover much at all! Consumers must be alert and don't fall into the traps they set up and stay away from being scammed.
The worst experience with an insurance…
The worst experience with an insurance company we have ever had. Denied 2 basic dental cleaning claims for a dentist listed in Network - because "they were not in Network". The dentist was listed on their list of In Network providers. Called to pay balance premium, wouldn't send me an invoice, give me a total or provide me with an address to pay by check.
Ultimate scam!
Ultimate scam!
They denied COVERED procedure because "according to our records, you were born without that tooth". It's a total BS - if that were the case, the adjacent teeth would've expanded, and there would be no distinctive gap. Among other reasons.
I filed a dispute and included my dentist's professional opinion. They responded with their "professional's" rebuttal.
To make it short, scam.
Terrible company that falsely …
Terrible company that falsely advertise large network and hide copays. They advertise a certain copay then there is no dentist in a 50mile radius that is a preferred or whatever they call it . High deductable .
BOGUS SIGN-UP FEE
I bought an individual plan and guess what, they charge you a full month's premium just for signing up. It goes towards no dental services, just whatever they felt like they should charge you because obviously all monthly premiums are different depending on what plan you pick but any processing on their side would be absolutely the same. Totally scummy. The sign-up fee is a total scam, and nothing they mentioned during the sign-up process on their website. BEWARE!
They denied a covered procedure and have no customer support
I'm infuriated by this insurer. I signed up for a plan which was meant to pay 50% towards restorative procedures after a 6 month waiting period. After 18 months I had to get a root canal and basic composite crown. First they refused the claim and forced the dentist to appeal based on wanting more radiology. Then they rejected it a second time and simply said it's not a covered procedure. Why make the dentist do the extra work only to come back and say root canals aren't covered, and why wasn't it covered?
I attempted to contact the company get an explanation and found that they have no actual people to call. There isn't even a phone number listed on the we site. You have to use a contact form that claims it will be answered in 3-5 business days. It's been 8 business days, no response. This insurance is a fraud. Stay away.
