Just horrible... a real scam! Went to an IN-NETWORK DENTIST and over 1/2 of the Services were FULLY DENIED. There are all sorts of restrictions in the voluminous FINE PRINT. CAVEAT EMPTOR! Totally a fraud! Basic Preventative Services ARE NOT COVERED 100% as they advertise. My "FREE EXAM AND X-RAYS" WERE NOT FREE!!! I was charged $200/for each. And forget about replacing ANY MISSING TEETH. I was informed that NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED IF A TOOTH WAS MISSING BEFORE THIS INSURANCE TOOK EFFECT. I've paid over 2 years on this policy. They are a dishonest company

I don’t even know what their service is like cause I haven’t used them yet. Even paying for over 2 years just to have dental insurance. I set up recurring payments - they never take out the payment then cancel my insurance twice. Not notification that payment failed, not notification from my bank, and funds were always in my account. So I learned, don’t rely on the auto payment always check. Lo and behold, no payment draft, and account past due days threatening to cancel. I then make a manual payment. Twice in a row the charged me twice. The first time I shrugged it off as being paid two months ahead. But then the next time this happened they showed no record of double payment. And they were showing no payment and no auto draft. Again, plenty of funds in the account. They again charged me twice. I got sick of this and they made me send bank records and a letter. They sent a check for over payment. Here I am again, account showing past due on my due date no payment drafted. I am sick of this company, and for this alone, I’m cancelling. Disgusting service and treatment for someone actually paying their bill and have no claims! I kept it so I don’t have to start a new waiting period with a new provider but at this point I don’t care.

I've been with Physicians mutual life insurance for years for the life insurance as well as Dental. I've never had a problem with claims nor their customers service and they usually answer the phone right away. As for as the dental I knew and understood that they would pay a certain amount for major dental work based on how long I've been with the plan. They pay very well for preventive care such as cleaning and X-rays and more with no waiting. This policy has been great for me because I've saved thousands on my crown and a Bridge. Having a Dentist office that's willing to file the claims and making the call to verify the benefits is very important because it takes away the stress of trying to figure it out myself. I've had great success and I've gotten my money worth by holding on to my policy and maximizing the savings.

Rejected two claims on my pet insurance policy for about $500 with no explanation. Called customer service and and after 45 minutes and 3 call transfers, I was told that a claim representative would be "calling", not emailing, for the reason. I said its hard to answer phone calls, and they said that is how they do it. I met my deductible and I want my 70%, they promised.
Added after Physicians Mutual (PM) reply: "PM's explanation below is to a canceled dental policy I had a few years ago, the saga listed above refers to a very current pet policy on file. They couldn't even research the issue. The incompetency of this company is staggering."

I bought the top of the line dental insurance
I went to one of there approved dentist.
It was for X-rays and cleaning. This was supposed to be covered 100%
After paying my premiums for 3 months. $60 a month. I had my dental visit.
Turns out I still owe the dentist $160.
So basically the insurance does nothing if you and my monthly payments and balance due.
Definitely a scam and they should be sued in a class action lawsuit

Their premiums may be lower than others, but they must have high underwriting requirements, because thet denied me medigap coverage, even though I am quite healthy for my 81 age.

Buyer beware! We were advised that there were "100s" of dentists who were contracted with Physicians Mutual, and this was not true. We called several, and they had not heard of this insurance company. When I called Customer Service, they informed me to file my own claims as out-of-network providers, which pay a small fraction. When I asked to cancel my contract with them immediately, they continued to bill for 2 more months, stating that my premiums were "earned." We never filed a single claim, paid over $500 in premiums, and they would not return a single dollar. Providers told me to avoid this company.

They make you wait a year for coverage on a root canal procedure. They don't tell you that when you sign up. It's a rip off if you have to have an unexpected situation which is why you buy insurance. So beware before you buy. I got ripped.

I called to cancel my service as I'm a veteran and have found other providers that are less expensive. When I called, I was told that I needed to send them a signed letter to terminate the service.
This is a pain to have to do to cancel my service.

When I signed up for the dental plan through Physicians Mutual I spoke with an agent & read off the medical insurance code for the periodontal maintenance procedure I get 3x a year. I asked the agent specifically if they cover this procedure and explained how important this procedure is to my dental health. Her reply was "yes, we will cover that for 3 times in a yearly cycle" for this plan. I was so excited and surprised, that I was looking forward to receiving the documents in the mail. Finally, a plan that will help me with my needs. The plan documents arrived and confirmed what the agent discussed with me, on the phone, so I signed up. Everything was going along well and now apparently the plan has been changed. How coincidental I never got any notification that the plan's benefits had changed. So now, I am left holding the bag so to speak. I will have to pay out of pocket. When I called into Physicians Mutual, today, the reps were trying to tell me they never covered that service more than 2x a year. Their year starts in September and ends in September, odd don't ya think. Oh, and how convenient I cannot access my policy online. You cannot even see the different policies they offer. Hmm..odd. I just got done speaking with my dentist and they confirmed that the plan paid for 3 perio. cleanings a year. They did find a claim that wasn't paid when it should have been. We will be reviewing the documents/previous claims together. Thank goodness my dentist is awesome. We will work something out. In the meantime I will be cancelling this policy ASAP. My mom, a senior citizen, inquired about their different policies a year ago and they still send her literature in the mail. What a waste of paper. So glad she never signed up! I wouldn't recommend them at all. Will be writing on any more literature that comes in the mail--RETURN TO SENDER!

After years of paying my premium, I had to have four crowns. They were $1350 each. Today I found out the claim was denied. Tomorrow I will cancel my policy. This company and dental insurance is a TOTAL SCAM. Not a single claim was ever paid.

I have had Physicians Mutual Dental since 2016. It was an awesome Dental policy until this last year they changed everything. It is a PPO policy and even using an in network provider they have allowed amounts that the provider is supposed to abide by. They cannot bill you over the amount that is allowed by Physicians Mutual Dental allowances. But that has changed Physicians Mutual now is allowing the dentist to balance bill you the difference between the allowed amount and the portion that is supposed to be a write off and cannot be billed. They will not address the issues of the provider balance billing the patient in excess of the contracted amount for an in-network provider. X-rays are paid at 100% and you're supposed to have no out-of-pocket. Now the dentist can bill you what is not covered which made me responsible for $221. This policy is a piece of crap I canceled it immediately after almost 10 years and will never go back. I don't recommend anybody taking their Dental or Vision policies they're a trap to deplete seniors of their money. MY INFORMATION IS ACCURATE. I WORKED IN THE HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE COMPANY FOR BENEFITS FOR 15 YEARS. YOU DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR POLICY HOLDERS AND LET THE DENTISTS SCAM THE SENIOR CITIZENS. XRAYS COVERED AT 100% DOESNT COME WITH A $221 BILL FOR ROUTINE XRAYS. YOUR DONE SCAMMING ME

My dentist told me I should have a crown put in because my tooth had a crack in it. They told me it would be $1800 and my insurance company (Physicians Mutual) would cover half. Even $900 was a big expense for me but I did it. I never thought my insurance company would deny the claim. I even waited more than a year to have this done so that my coverage for this procedure would kick in. I jsut received a letter from PM saying they reviewed my dentist's claim a second time and denied it. They said they're consulting dentists (paid I assume by the company they're consulting for!) said there was enough tooth structure for retention of the crown. I guess my dentist felt it necessary remove more of the tooth to place the crown. Wow! I am paying $100 per month for me and my wife for two years and they can't cover HALF a crown procedure? No wonder insurance companies are under fire these days. If you paid this claim we'd have kept paying our premiums for years probably and you would have made thousands off of us. Now you won't have a customer anymore. Was it really worth it?

I had Physicians Mutual Top tier plan (they say they have 3)... this may help cover expensive procedures like a bridge or a crown but it covers Almost Nothing for routine cleanings. I called them and asked them why they didn't cover more for preventive procedures. I was told they would if I had the Top Tier plan. I told them I did.. but the representative then told me I had the "Old" Top tier plan... and they had New level plans.. I asked why I wasn't on that New Plan? Their response was they couldn't just move me to that plan without my consent because it cost more. They never notified me and they only advertise that they have Three plan levels. I asked if they could upgrade me.. they said Yes.. But if they did that, I would be subject to the one year waiting period for major procedures... this company does it's best to deny paying what they should. You are better off putting the monthly amount they charge into a saving account and paying your dentist in cash as this company pays almost nothing for "covered" procedures!
