Buying a used bike from Upway worked great
Buying a used bike from Upway was excellent. I looked for a long time and had pretty much given up on finding a good road ebike but one day there was, just what I wanted, 1/2 the price of a new one. I ordered it and had it in about a week. No problems. It was very well packed. It's just as they said it would be. I'm very happy.
⚠️ Attractive promises, exhausting process
The bike itself is decent. My disappointment comes entirely from Upway's customer service.
A simple referral reward has now required over two months, more than 25 WhatsApp messages, several emails and two escalations to the marketing team.
First, Upway refused to honour the referral programme that was advertised when I bought my bike. Only after I provided proof of their own promotional emails did they agree, in writing, to honour the original offer.
My friend bought his bike using the unique referral code they generated for my account. They then confirmed that my €100 Amazon voucher would be issued automatically after the waiting period.
Weeks later, after nothing arrived, they changed their position again and started requesting my friend's personal information (email and order number), even though the referral code is unique and was successfully redeemed.
The issue is no longer the €100 voucher. It is the amount of time, energy and persistence required to obtain something Upway had already agreed to honour.
This experience makes me question how smoothly a future warranty claim would be handled if such a straightforward commercial commitment requires months of follow-up.
Very happy with the bike and the fact…
Very happy with the bike and the fact that they described it perfectly.
Very good communication.
Misleading at best. More like false advertising.
I purchased a bike and insurance at the same time during checkout. At purchase, I was told my bike was insured. Three days after receiving the bike, it was stolen. Turns out the waiting period for the insurance to actually take effect was buried at the bottom of the welcome email — the same email that opened with “Congratulations! You’re now insured.” That’s misleading at best.
None of the checkout screens mentioned a damn thing about a waiting period either.
I’m still taking this up with a separate mediator. What a crock.
Good bikes and delivery
Good bikes and delivery, I've been enjoying my bike for more than a year now
The BEST way to buy a premium E bike
Here’s the full updated review:
Five stars — the best way to buy a premium e-bike
I’ve bought four bikes from Upway over the past few years and keep coming back. My journey went: Gazelle step-through (1 year) → Riese & Müller full-suspension step-through (2 years — incredible, tank-like with floating comfort) → R&M Mixte mid (cool bike, but wrong fit for daily use — wrists back hurt) → back to a Gazelle Arroyo step-through with belt drive, integrated lighting, and the upright geometry I actually need. Each purchase and sell back and return was smooth, and their 14-day return window is real — use it.
The Brooklyn warehouse is the hidden gem. You can see the whole operation — bikes come in, get a full point inspection, go out in top shape. I’ve never had a mechanical issue across four bikes, including one with 700+ miles on it. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. It’s near a subway stop but slightly hidden — thank Google Maps.
Customer service is responsive even at 2am on weekends, which says something. Technical questions get handled during regular business hours, which is completely reasonable — and when I did have issues, the follow-up was solid. Whoever I spoke with was always up to speed on my situation, so I never had to repeat myself.
I use an e-bike as my primary transportation in Jersey City. No car. So fit, reliability, and being able to swap when something isn’t right matters enormously to me. Upway lets me treat it almost like a lease — ride it a year or two, sell it back, try something new. The selection is overwhelming in the best way.
One practical note: UL certification matters if you’re in NYC. You can filter for it on the site — huge plus.
State-of-the-art bikes at half price or better. Some had 3 miles on them. Hard to argue with that.
Upway
Upway - NO WAY - Do not buy from Upway! Ordered an expensive Trek ebike and it arrived broken. They told me I had to take the bike to the repair shop and get reimbursed. I don't have time for this. I purchased an expensive bike and was told it was in working condition. I requested a small discount off the sale price for my time, travel and inconvenience (8 hours) and they said no. So.... Upway ships broken bikes and expect their customers to manage the service process for free. Good strategy for Upway to reduce service costs and lose customers!!
Bought and returned a bike - great service!
I'm on visit to Europe for several months and bought an ebike from Upway.. it arrived in good condition as expected but the bike wasn't suitable for my 193cm even though the guidance on the site suggested that it was, so after lots of work trying to see if the bike could work for the long rides I wanted to do, and realising it just wouldn't I opted to return the bike within the 14 day return option. Upway were great about this. They arranged collection, even being considerate of our available collection hours, and arranged for a complete refund of my payments. Communication was generally very clear, friendly when it came from an operator, and usually quite prompt. I really recommend this company.
Helpful front desk!
Jay and Shon were very helpful in guiding me towards picking out an e-bike to try out. I ultimately went with an Aventon, which was fairly priced and easy to ride. Thank you!
So thankful I bought my Super73 through…
So thankful I bought my Super73 through Upway. When a problem came up with my bike, they handled everything with Super73 directly and made the whole process stress‑free. Their customer service is honestly some of the best I’ve ever experienced—fast replies, real empathy, and actual solutions.
Chris was amazing to work with, and the whole team was just as responsive. I’m genuinely blown away by how well they took care of me. I’d choose Upway again in a heartbeat.
I was looking for a light weight mid…
I was looking for a light weight mid drive bike that could do steep climbs. I purchased the 58 lb Orbea Kemen and discovered it’s a heavy bike. The shipping invoice says 61 lbs. I’m pretty sure it’s a lot heavier. On a positive note. I took it for a spin in North Carolina and it feels good on an open hilly roads.
I’m planning on buying a light weight mid drive for my wife that must be easy to ride.
Shopping experience was great
Shopping experience was great, delivery was great, the bike is great. The one disappointment was all the non-recyclable packaging. A seemingly endless amount of foam all headed to the landfill for the next 400 years. There must be a better way.
Low offers on bike after they receive it
I contacted upway regarding purchasing my bike. They handled shipment to their offices. I was sure of the mileage and estimated roughly. They made an offer. I accepted. Upon receipt they offered $120 for a bike that I paid over $1000 dollars for two years ago and only rode 300 miles total. A huge loss, but they have the bike and getting the bike returned would cost a huge sum. Try to sell on your own before selling to upway because you'll be losing big time. My husband has a regular mountain bike and is reselling his bike for 4 times what I got from upway and the condition isn't even like mine ebike was. So prepare to lose a lot when selling to upway.
Brand new and half the price
Bike arrived as expected from the description. Customer service was very quick to respond when I emailed for tracking info. I got a great deal for a really nice bike. About half the price of a new model and the bike I bought only had 1 mile on it!
Great service.
Just a few day's before the end of the year warranty, my Kalkhoff bike failed. Local E bike mechanic found the failure, in the wiring..., and solved it.
Costs, without any problem, were paid back to me.
Great service.
Great company
Great company. Bike was shipped exactly as depicted in the photos. Can’t beat saving 50% over retail! Will be buying again!
I do not get a quick reply from upway…
I do not get a quick reply from upway regarding how to manage repairs. The electrical part of my bike no longer works and as I use this every day as only mode of transport I need to know if I can repair it myself or not.
Price was not what I expected but service was quick
Price was not what I expected, however the entire process of selling to payment was quick and seamless
