Our company (hospitality) has worked with the Merit System for the best part of a year. Our experience has been fantastic and we implore other businesses to look into them.

The team clearly work very hard; the way in which they operate is completely faultless. You are never waiting long to speak with a representative if you have any queries at all; and they are meticulous.

The main reason for wanting to use the Merit System, was for a staff morale boost, and also to up our review scores. Coincidently, our scores have risen, and we have pretty much, the entire same team on board since the beginning. Staff morale is definitely at an all time high, and we truly believe working with the Merit System has contributed to this greatly.

The Merit System initially contacted us through one of their marketing campaigns. They were offering to send our hotel free Krispy Kreme doughnuts as one of our staff had received a positive TripAdvisor review. I definitely thought it was a scam at the time, but I decided to go along with it.

The doughnuts arrived (to my surprise) and this made me curious: Who is this company that’s randomly sending me Krispy Kreme doughnuts. i decided to do a bit of research about the company.

Essentially, The Merit System is a website that businesses use to reward and motivate their staff. The thinking is; if you reward your staff for doing a good job, then you encourage them to continue doing a good job.

I’ve been using The Merit System with my team for about 3 months now, and it does seem to be working. I initially focused on improving punctuality within my hotel [we’ve historically struggled with this). In month one, I setup a competition focusing on awarding the most punctual staff members and we saw an immediate improvement in this area. In month 2, we paused the competition and surprisingly the punctuality didn’t dip. The same is true for month 3.

My team really like the fact that you can receive anonymous praise from your colleagues. This has really been a real mood booster in our hotel. They also say that it’s a lot of fun trying to work out who has said something nice about you.

I have to deduct 1 star from my review as I believe the reporting tools could be better. As a manager, it would be nice to track how employees attendance and performance tracks over time. It’s not the end of the world, as I have a separate system for this.
