Unresolved issue - NZ Lighting Outlet

We purchased a ventilation fan from Lighting Outlet NZ based on advertising that clearly stated it came with a standard NZ/AU 3-pin plug. This was incorrect. The fan arrived with a 4-pin plug, making it unsuitable for installation as advertised.

When we contacted Lighting Outlet NZ, they refused to supply an adaptor or offer a return, despite the misleading advertising. A qualified NZ electrician also refused to install the fan without an SDOC certificate. We requested this documentation from Lighting Outlet NZ and were told they needed to obtain it from the manufacturer.

What followed was four months of delays, excuses, and unreturned follow-ups. We were repeatedly told they were “waiting on the manufacturer” and that they would get back to us — which they never did.

We also attempted to resolve the issue by contacting Lighting Outlet Australia by phone, however every call was redirected back to the NZ lines, leaving us stuck in the same unresolved loop.

Ultimately, we contacted the manufacturer directly, who resolved the issue immediately supplying a new fan with a standard plug and a SDOC at cost to them.

Misleading product information, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. We would not recommend Lighting Outlet NZ based on this experience.

Great lighting retailer

I was impressed by the volume of product available in the Web shop.
Ordering was simple and the items (G4 and G9 Halogen - LED replacement bulbs) arrived in good time and work better than the original bulbs.
A choice of 3 colour temperatures, and the ability to put in a much brighter bulb than the housing was designed for, is an added bonus.
Will be shopping here again!

What an appalling business.

What an appalling business.
Advised delivery before Christmas then when paid was told delivery won't be until some time in January.
Requested a refund due to their inability to make a delivery in a timely manner.
Now told I will be charged a re-stocking fee!
A re-stocking fee!
Unheard of in Australia.
And definitely not legal.
In my opinion, these people are just thieves.
What an utter disgrace.

Zero customer service

They have zero customer service. It almost took them a week to tell me that the goods I ordered were out of stock. When they offered me an alternative, I replied asking for some more details. Over a week later, I am still waiting for a response from my email. I tried ringing them but the calls are never answered and calls are not returned.

Missing Item

and iam still waiting for update and solution 4th Dec.

Very unhelpful and frustrating as i have a massive hole in the bathroom for open home.

Horrible delivery times

Horrible delivery times. I ordered 2 small halogen light bulbs and it has been 2 weeks and still has not been delivered! I contacted Customer Service and they said it takes 5-12 working das for delivery. I live in Grey Lynn (Central Auckland) and was sent from Silverdale (Auckland North Shore), that's 2 weeks to send a parcel 35km. I could have gotten it from Amazon in a week.

Shockingly bad delivery times. I would never buy from them again!

Great experience!

I ordered 5 electric light globes from the lighting outlet and they were exactly as described, shipped fast and great quality. These ones were tricky to find too, so these guys will be my goto for bespoke lighting

Extremely disappointed

I bought 2 light fittings and was very disappointed. The product is awful - lightweight with a fake wood veneer strip - very cheap looking. I’ve seen better quality and cheaper at Mitre 10!

Worst customer service

The bulbs attached to the listing of the fitting I purchased arrived and were smaller than in the photo. When I contacted the company I was recommended larger ones. Then I noticed he’d changed the listing from the small to large bulbs as he’d realised he’d made a mistake. He wouldn’t refund me or allow me to exchange small for large. I sent four emails but he wouldn’t budge. No answer when I phoned. Absolutely terrible customer service. Would never buy from this company ever again and would recommend no one does. They’re not interested in helping customers or owning their mistakes. Just out for a quick buck.

shocking service

shocking service, ordered a fan/light online for a clients job. This was an urgent job so we selected the express shipping. 7 days had passed and did not receive any tracking or contact. Our client contacted us saying it was taking to long and canceled the job so i emailed support at 8am and by 10am they had quickly loaded it into a courier and advised me that it had already been sent but the tracking displayed pick up times etc. I will insure to advise my clients not to shop here when looking for lights and advise our team of electricians not to refer this company anymore
