All the lovely accommodation and luggage transfer. I had extra night and Orbis changed my route to accommodate my needs and washes.

Orbis customer service threatened me with arrest and banning from the EU for complaining about their accomodation.
Orbis customer service threatened me with arrest upon entering the EU and threatened to contact my place of employment to discredit me. Yes you read that correct ! Threatened with arrest and publicly discrediting me at my place of work by Carmen in customer service because I made a complaint about the poor quality of accommodation we received compared to the "charming hotels and country cottages" we were promised on their website. I haven't even spoke to her about our concern. They went straight to arrest and public character assassination following a complaint . See the attached screenshot to this post.
We were so disappointed by the quality of several hotels that we placed a complaint with VISA who placed a dispute against payment for part of the fee charged by Orbis for not providing us with the service and accommodation sold to us.
Instead of waiting to speak to us or exchange emails about the details of the actual concern and its validity they went straight to threats and intimidation. What kind of company would do this ? Not a good one in my opinion.
I know what you are thinking. I must have done something wrong, offended someone or used verbal threats myself. No! None of it. VISA and our local police service were stunned by Orbis's threats of legal action , immediate arrest and banning from the EU because I made a complaint and disputed a quality of service I never received.
They substituted hotels on our stay as the hotels shown on their website were not available. Fair enough. They said they may have to substitute. But to substitute with such low quality alternatives was bad enough but to describe some of these hell holes as "charming hotels and country cottages " is outrageous. Even if the hotel substituted had a similar rating it doesn't make it a charming hotel or country cottage. A hotel on a four lane highway next to a gas station, a hostel with a bath that's never been cleaned ( see picture attached), a hotel in a downtown shopping area across from major retailers with non stop noise until midnight. Yes some of the hotels were very good but many of the others were terrible and not as advertised by Orbis.
So we complained to VISA upon on our return home after complaining to Orbis on their 24/7 customer service while on our trip and receiving a far from an adequate response. They told us we should have checked the hotels before we left.
What ?! They are the travel agent. Its not my job to review hotels online and their location. If I wanted to do that I would have gone on the internet and booked it all myself, which after returning I highly recommend. Orbis charged approximately $380 dollars a day when the hotels it turns out cost approximately $130 per day on average. That's a massive mark up for a service that isn't provided and to top it off when you complain they threaten you with public humiliation at your place of work and banning you from the EU and arrest.
How does their complaint service work? They leave a message accusing you of fraud without a return contact number at 5 am on a Sunday morning which I assume they do knowing you wont answer . Upon waking and hearing this shocking message we phoned the number back but no one answered. We then emailed Orbis back with our contact information, asking to talk to them .because we found a similar threatening email.
Their response within 24 hours. The threat of professional embarrassment, arrest and banning from the EU. What kind of company does that?

Carmen was a great help. Corresponded straight away when I asked any questions. Very seamless payment from overseas. A couple of rest days could have been included, especially in León. Luggage transfer was excellent.

Never had a problem with my luggage, it was always at my hotel . The breakfast was great . The hotel were clean. Never had a problem locating the hotels . Everything work like clock work .

Wonderful Camino Portuguese self-guided tour. Hotels were excellent, luggage transfer flawless. Great communication ahead of time with itinerary, hotel details, and Camino directions. Yes, it might be cheaper to book it all yourself, but it was worth it to not have that stress. Would definitely use Orbis Ways again.

I used Orbis to plan a walk of the Camino Santiago in Spain. Orbis provided clear and timely communication on itinerary and accurate quotations. Orbis answered my questions. Orbis provided details of travel insurance. All the documents I needed for my trip were provided. Good description of what I would see on my trip. Gretchen was terrific to work with to plan out our trip. Some of the places we stayed were delightful with charm, and some more normal to expectations. A well guided long walk, great service, including luggage transport. We loved the Scottisch Borders because of it's beautiful nature and kind people. The pilgrimage nature of the walk was a great appeal aswell. Also good to know is that the distance of the daily walks was a bit underestemated on serveral days, but don't let it discourage you, or you will miss out.

A great experience on the Fishermans Walk
The accommodation and pickup services were excellent. The reading materials and instructions were extremely helpful. However they did not convey how sandy the cliff tops were. Foreign walkers were prepared for this by wearing sand gaiters. This could be included in the literature.
