Poor walking experience

The hotels and included dinners were very good and the taxi drivers were all very helpful and friendly. However, the walk directions were poor, in many cases outdated and, although we complained during our trip, there was very little back up support. On several days, even with the help of our own guide books and the walking app Orbis recommended we were lost. There was no indication of distances in the directions or the difficulty of the gradients. We would not recommend using Orbis and will not use this company again ourselves

There were good and bad parts

There were good and bad parts.

Firstly, the signs on our luggage for the luggage transfer said 'Santiago ways' not Orbis ways, so I am assuming that they work with Santiago ways.

Most of the documentation was accurate, a few of the points where not open now, which made a few parts of the rout more challenging than they needed to be.

On the 3rd night night the hotel was 7km from the town we walked to, the transfer to and from the hotel was included, but after a 28km walk we had to wait an hour to be picked up. When we got to the hotel it was a set menu for 45 euro a head and we could not eat any of it, so we ended up having bread and butter that night. To make it even worse, the earliest they did breakfast was 8am and the transfer was 8:30am the following morning, meaning we couldn't start walking till later in the day, making the walks again unnecessarily challenging because of the heat.

Most of the hotels were directly on the route which was great, but I would say if you are looking to book with these and include breakfast, specify the time you want to have breakfast at, so you can walk earlier in the cool.

Beware booking a sole occupancy room…

Beware booking a sole occupancy room for which Orbis charges you a premium.
Despite paying more, the experience on the Cotswold Way walk is that you get a single room that may or may not be ensuite, or an inferior room away from the main accommodation.
If this is all the hotels can offer, Orbis should either be upfront and not charge the extra premium or use different hotels

Well-organised trip with advance…

Well-organised trip with advance detailed documents, hotel accommodation nearly all up to standard, luggage transfer excellent. Only two sub-standard points: the breakfast at the first hotel (Hotel America in Ferrol) was frankly not enough, although the accommodation was lovely. The Pension vilanova in Sigueiro was nowhere near good enough (and in fact we paid to move to different accommodation) - the room was dark and smelled, the 'restaurant' was ready meals with a microwave, and the hotel was 2km out of town

Quickly arranged good trip

Even though I booked only a week before departure the trip was arranged perfectly. Good hotels close to the route. No issues at all with shuttling of luggage. It makes for a care free pilgrimage.

Our Camino from Sarria to Santiago was amazing. The accommodation and breakfast were excellent. Bags were always picked up and delivered on time. We were early in the season, and many places were closed. We really appreciated the reservations!

We were first time walkers and the…

We were first time walkers and the company had some good advice. The hotel booking system and luggage transfer worked really well. Overall the accommodation was comfortable and clean. However, one evening the room was more like a hostel than a bnb or hotel room. Also, some of the check-in addresses were not quite accurate
The walk itself is beautiful but in places a challenge as a lot of the paths are through sand dunes, cliff tops and quite steep in places The weather was kind to us and would think in the heat it would be very challenging (especially if you’re a novice) A great experience and yes I would recommend Orbis Way If you fly back from Lisbon and plan to travel back from the last stop check your flight times. There was only 1 bus that suited our flight time back to London (might be different in the summer) and the drive took 3 1/2 hours. We just about made the 4pm flight.

Great trip over 5 days

The trip was well organized.
The hotel selection was perfect for our needs except for the day we arrived in Azura.
After walking 29km ( if option selected) all you want to do is relax.We had to ring for our transfer,we arrived around 2pm and rung 5 times, WhatsApp, landline,mobile no answer,20 minutes later we got a call back ,taxi was there in minutes ,( no issue).
Arrival good at hotel,checked in and told about dinner and breakfast.
Room nice ,very old and boutique.
Bed very comfy but wood was very creaky so everytime you moved it was noisy.
No hot water or heating and all we wanted was to relax after 6 hours walking.
I went to reception to tell them ,and was told they were using the boiler for washing dishes in the restaurant and it would be on soon..
Dinner very disappointed no choice,only soup which I didn't like beef cheek with 3 little potato,then dessert..no wine beer or soda just water included.To be fair the chef did see I didn't eat the soup so gave me some chicken pastry thing.
Breakfast was disappointed again,no juice,stale cereal,not good selection.
This was probably a dear one to stay at looking at the price of drinks ,there's nothing around so you are stuck in the room.
If I was a spiteful person I would ask for a refund for this stay..
I would recommend staying in the town like all the rest ,with a better selection for dinner .
I got to give O Pino the 100% *5* the location straight off the trail ,the rooms,the service the food was exceptional, choosing off a menu ,not a pilgrims one either,breakfast excellent too ,it was a relief spending the night here after the Casa Brandariz.
I would recommend Orbis ways but always read reviews ..But we read bad reviews on O Pino and loved it ..

Last year we booked our full Camino…

Last year we booked our full Camino walk from Porto to Santiago de Compostela. During the trip one of us was injured and, after a hospital visit, the doctors ordered us to stop.

We had purchased full travel insurance, along with bag transport and accommodations through the service. The bag transfers and lodging arrangements were well organized and helpful. From a planning standpoint, the service itself worked well. (once on the road, we had the issue, it became difficult to connect to a person).

Unfortunately, when it came time to request a refund for the remaining accommodations and services that were to be covered by the insurance policy, the experience was very frustrating. For several weeks we received no response. When the process finally started, it took months of calls and being passed between different departments and the insurance company. In the end we received less than $200 USD.

My recommendation is to read the fine print carefully before purchasing your Journey (It's worth every step) get the travel insurance. Also, if you are traveling in the winter, request heating in your room. The Camino, has many places that do not have air conditioning. Most of the time you will not need it, but when the heat and sun exposure are intense, it can make a big difference.

Despite our experience with the insurance claim, the logistics service itself was helpful. Our situation was unusual because we had to stop the journey due to injury and weather conditions. BTW, make sure you are not walking 34Km in one day, most of the days were planned between 17-20 KM, that was great.

Haven't taken the trip yet but things are already wrong...

Haven't taken the trip yet and they've already got me worried. My rep seems to only respond when she is not "busy with something else". I asked for suggestions for extending the trip by a day - she had none. By the time I figured out for myself how to spend the extra day, I was told the trip would cost almost $1000 more (same number of days, nights, transfers) and she didn't even quote it the way I requested. I should have known when I had to go back and forth with her so so many times to get it right that something wasn't right. I already paid so now I am stuck praying that she didn't screw it all up...

Hello people please read it .
I had a terrible treat by Orbis way I don't really believe they have 4,5strats..!!! During my 10days from Sarria,they put me an isolated dirty plase without bathroom in the room (which should have been),no sheet on bed just dirty coverd on noisy metress,dead insect styed on the curtain,clumps of hair on the floor, also found next morning several dead bedbuggs ..!! I took all photos,sent it to the office lady Sofia who had been dealing with me before it started.She responed "thank you for let me know,I let office know about it.She didnot say "Sorry" nobody contacted me for several days, I had a night time phovia ,couldn't sleep well of course,but had to continue my journey. I sent e.mail ,said,you stolen my money I paid,$180.00+ daily,only three places were normal hotels,others are horrible situation like no soap in the tiny shower room,all rooms are put together..far from convenient.. area etc. She,Sofia contacted me the last day of my journey,asked me, "where that happened MS.Marshall,the bedbuggs bite you?we have to figure it out for the next" Believe me it is the TRUE she did it without Sorry still.. !! She also lied to me that they are "Santiago way"I asked twice,but the same respond which was not true because I called the head office of Santiago way after done.
You know what happened? She e.mailed me since I came back a month ago,said, "Sorry for e.t.c we made a decision to pay for you 100euro,please let me know". I said,no,you don't know how much I had had a hard time to continue my journey in many ways even my back itching..I don't need money,instead let people know my experiences as many as possible. I heared from solo hiker that it's a lot better to make a plan yourself she had luggage delivery service,room reservation.Rural area in Spain hotels are cheap between 20 to 50 Euro I asked solo hikers. A lot savings than pay Orbis Ways which terrible agency I could say. Thank you for dealing with my English second language. Orbis way cannot criticized me !
