I am a recently homebound patient (I can go out but walking is painful).
My insurance company said I qualify for Mom's Meals deliveries and other services for transport..ect.
I like most menus from their site.(I just think they should redo the menu every 3 months instead of 6...but what they serve is good food)
They just do not use spices...just like a hospital. They plan the meals for the widest client base without using things a client might be alergic to.
This why I have a small bag that my wife drops to me at a hospitl when the ER admints me to a floor

Food is ok. Because I know prepared meals are never the best unless you pay really high prices I accept convenience. Do not send cookies and the like that are already stale and you would break a tooth to eat. I suggest trying different packaging, not cellophane because it does not work. It's a waste of money on your part and mine. Btw perhaps ask if the subscriber wants dried milk instead of just sending and charging for it. Great for some I am sure but the first thing I toss when the meals arrive, right before the baked goods.

Digestive distress in your future. I am not food intolerant and tried most of menu options. The food leaves some kid of residue in plastic. You will be spending lots of time in the bathroom

Well the vegetables are spongy, there’s not taste no seasonings, when a pasta is served there’s not enough sauce on it. When meat is served it’s the smallest portions I’ve even seen & bland! Then they serve it with a gravy that’s salty as hell. Cuscus, rice etc is one big stuck together mess!! The roll, or bun crumbles as though it’s stale. I don’t know who cooks these meals but they need cooking lessons!! I stopped them and rather eat peanut butter and jelly! The only ok thing is salad and there’s never enough, geez and crab cake you get one tiny crab cake!!! Something needs to change, especially better cooked prepared food quality and better portions!!!

These meals are labeled bioengineered food. Stay away from them.
THe meals are terrible tasting and have combinations like tortellini and peas.....who does that? Mine were for diabetes and heart and they are all loaded with sodium and sugar.....not for me at all...threw them away
Good meals for my dying father, he really enjoyed them and the insurance company covered the cost and set up the delivery. And the driver was a really nice guy.
we got the after hospital care meals. in hospital 10 days with lung removal and long recovery. Some of the meals had slits in the top part that is supposed to be sealed. I called them and they said to throw them away and they would not be replaced. This is horrible.
They sent me the meals without giving me a menu without me telling them what I was allergic to they never called me I wound up giving the whole package to the food pantry I ate one meal and I had an allergic reaction they are very bad about not communicating and handling allergies I've stopped the deliveries. The one meal that I did eat was horrible I tried them a few years back about 6 years ago thought maybe they might have changed but they haven't they got worse
I placed an order with Mom's Meals for a Medicare Advantage patient and was given a delivery date. Two weeks later, I followed up with the patient to confirm receipt—he hadn't received anything.
I then called Mom's Meals, only to be told they had no record of my initial call. They advised me to request a reference or order number for future calls.
Unfortunately, by the time this was sorted out, more than 30 days had passed since the patient’s discharge—meaning he is now ineligible to receive the meals, even though I placed the order well within the 30-day window. There was no flexibility or override available from either Mom's Meals or the health plan.
Overall, it was a frustrating experience—just trying to make sure a patient had access to food.
BEWARE OF UNETHICAL HIGHLY COERCIVE SALES TACTICS!
I'm a YOUNGER disabled adult living in Independent Living. Almost all of my neighbors are over 65. Out of fifty people less than five use this service because it's so awful. The sales department doesn't have any way to control what meals are put in a box. That's done by a completely different partnered company. The meals categorized as low sodium, diabetic are anything but. They are made up of unhealthy ingredients that are worse than frozen dinners from the grocery store. They're portioned just like nursing homes....four ounces of food. It's necessary to cook additional food to add to the meal or double them up just to not starve. Which defeats the purpose. If clients could safely cook what the needed they wouldn't need this service. But these services aren't designed to completely meet client needs. They're designed to create an unhealthy reliance and dependence. It is a business after all.
If you're so bold as to try to discontinue the service ....good luck. Once you're in the won't let you go! I've been through this three times. The first time they hurriedly delivered three boxes in ten days just to bill the Medicaid Waiver as much as they could before I moved.
The second time, it took three months to start the service. My Waiver case manager and I both contacted customer service multiple times to see what the issue was. Each time they had my address as a random old address from the last 25 years. Wtf???? When the meals finally came it was only two types, Salisbury Steak and Meatloaf. I can't eat red meat! Four calls and they couldn't fix it. Not even after my preselecting meals for subsequent deliveries.
I tried to discontinued service. They refused! And when I said no they would transfer me to another agent whom would giggle, pretend she didn't hear the anger in my voice, and promise she was the one to fix the issue for good. Ultimately, they only stopped delivery for 3 months. I had 31 meals in my freezer I couldn't eat. Their response??? Donate them to a friend. I'm sorry but who does that? Nobody eats nothing but Meatloaf all day every day without change.
Keep in mind I'm still on experience number two! When the three months passed the same chaos showed up at my door all over again. This time I lost it. An hour conversation, transfered two three people. An hour of the gaslighting, giggling, I'm the best one here and can fix it...and outright refusal to discontinue service and I started to literally scream I SAID NO! Even through me screaming they still tried their unethical manipulative sales techniques. They had me on record so they had no choice but to stop delivery
I can just imagine being elderly and trying to deal with this. It makes me physically ill to think about it.
Time number three. My case manager was trying to solve a problem. She created hell instead. She thought she could start then quickly stop service. Nope! Here came a box of another 14 read meat meals THEY KNOW I CAN'T EAT. I refused the delivery. They had a stop service notice from my case manager. Did they stop??? Of course not. They just sent a box through a different delivery service that wouldn't notify me my email a box was coming so I could stop the delivery again.
Another giggly gaslighting experience with CSRs that are trained to laugh no matter how angry you are. And pretend they don't hear you say no, stop, I don't want this. All the techniques used in sexual coercion modified for business. That's UNETHICAL!
Afterscreaming at two CSRs and threatening to report the refusal to discontinue service to Medicaid as FRAUD...She stopped laughing and sent my case manager the notice to discontinue service. But dated it two weeks out so they still have a chance to bill the insurance for one last box.
Mom's Meals & Purfoods don't care. They have many lawsuits out for their unethical behavior.... including failing to protect clients information that lead to a data breach. You're safer buying premade meals from the grocery store.
STAY AWAY FROM MOM'S MEALS!
I just received our first week of mom's meals through my husband's Medicare advantage plan. I specifically told the nurse my husband must have a low carb low sodium diet due to heart disease and diabetes... normally we would have no more than 50 carbs a day since carbs turn into sugar. These meals are ridiculous! Pasta, white rice, brown sugar apples.... who feeds that to a diabetic??? I called and was told when it is through insurance they can only pick one options so the sodium was selected well the lowest sodium meal was 340... Per the American heart association low sodium diet is under 140 per meal! SO when I called they said under 600 is what they consider low sodium... By who's standards?? I was counting on these meals to take stress off of me while my husband recovers, looks like I am back to cooking again!
I'm not a picky eater by any means, especially if the food sent to me is free. But in order for someone to deliver anything to you, you must make it crystal clear to whoever is making that delivery that unless that box gets right to you at your own front door....and not to any other door at the apartment building/home you live in, that box will never get to you. Which is exactly what I did. I contacted Mom's Meals BEFORE my first delivery to let them know that UNLESS they can bring that box directly to me...at my 3rd floor apartment...it will be impossible for me to get that box. Hip replacement means no stairs. It means when it's delivered I must reply on whoever is delivering it that it will not be a problem to carry that box to my apartment on the third floor. I would arrange for home health aides to unpack it from there, but I cannot make the aides carry a very heavy 25 pound plus box up 3 flights of stairs. Hence, the specific directions of how it absolutely must be delivered right to my own door. I was told, "Yes, no problem. We will put the box right in front of your door." Was I ever told they also use FedEx and UPS for deliveries so they cannot make that guarantee? Absolutely not. What was their excuse after I could not get it? "UPS and FedEx cannot see the delivery notes so they do not know they must bring it up 3 flights and that is out of our hands."
I know several ppl who get these meals and every one of them try to give them to me because the meals are disgusting! The concept is great, however flavor matters to seniors believe it or not! These meals cannot be given away, that's how terrible they taste..It needs to be said!
The meals themselves, first getting the plastic cover off the meal good luck. First who pairs up Salisbury Steak with rice, they once had it right and it was a favorite of mine when it was Salisbury Steak with Potatoes. If you are a red Blooded American raised on meat and potatoes then Moms Meals are not for you. I like Italian food until I tasted Mom's Meals red sauce OMG terrible absolutely terrible. I don't need anything fancy just good old American Meat and Potatoes.
I was worried after reading bad reviews that the meals would be terrible but I have been pleasantly surprised. They are tasty with a good portion size and as a newly diagnosed diabetic they are helping me have that balance and stay within nutritional goals. I only wish there were more vegetarian options and some vegan options.
I have been using this service for two years and the whole experience has been going downhill. First of all the price per meal went up drastically $6.99 to almost $10.00 each. Portions are very small. Half of most dinners is a gooey fruit concoction. Diabetic menu selection has been shrinking. Finding lots of black rotten pieces of potato, stems in undercooked veggies. Not recommended at all
customer service is horrible! have called at least 6 times for various reasons and every person I have talked to was very rude, unfriendly, snarky and unprofessional they act like you are bothering them like they are answering their phone from their home and you are interrupting them it is a very uncomfortable feeling to talk to them, after the 1st call I started recording the calls to ask other people if it was just me and they all said the same thing as me RUDE!
Following hospitalization, I ordered 14 vegetarian meals and was sent 14 breakfast meals only. And of those 14 ‘meals’, there was only a choice of three different kinds of breakfasts meals! Disappointing!
