Avoid at all costs

My advice is to avoid Michael Hill like the plague. After several very poor experiences, I will never spend another dollar of my hard earned money in any of his stores. Our latest experience was with a ring that had a sapphire that fell out of it. After returning it after only14 months and it having had all its checks under there lifetime warranty. (Not worth the paper it's wriiten on or the money paid for it) They tried to tell us the ring was beaten up. It wasn't. They then told is they couldn't get the saphire required to fix it. Not good enough. They then found a saphire that was to small and tried to tell us it was fine. In the end the replaced all the saphires that they intially couldn't find after I kicked up a massive stink. It took them 3 months. This is just one incident of many. I suggest going anywhere else to buy your jewellery.

Melanie at Penrith. Worth driving to meet her.

The service we received from Melanie at the Penrith Michael Hill store was exemplary.
She went out of her way to look after me and my engagement ring needs.
She took my experience from working with any Jeweller to working what felt like ‘My Jeweller’. A feeing that won’t be forgotten next time we’re looking for more jewellery.

I bought 2 expensive chains from this pitiful company. After the 30 days return policy expired, strangely enough they clasps failed. I am veteran and spent alot of money to tell me my how special she is to me and that I would have died years ago without her. Apparently Michael Hill does not want to know us. Can you fix it, answer no, your problem now. Can I get another jeweller to fix it, answer we can but we void the diamond warranty! I will never buy anything from this disgraceful company for the rest of my life! Enjoy your party on our coin. You are terrible, you company is terrible and you destroyed something very beautiful between my wife and myself. But if my country ever calls again , I will defend even people like you! You hurt us! Why?

Sales assistants think they’re jewellers

Very bad customers service. Took my rings in to a store in Melbourne to be enlargened (a service available with my care plan) and the two women behind the counter told me this could not be done because it would compromise the stability of the diamonds. They rudely went on to tell me that if I had the enlargement done elsewhere, my care plan would be forfeited. So basically, the rings were no longer wearable!
Fortunately, after attending on a separate occasion, a different salesperson served me. She was able to get the rings enlargened with no problem. Suddenly, the compromising of the diamonds was no longer an issue.
I believe the customer service people need to be trained on how to treat their customers, and keep in mind that they do not possess the expertise and skills in determining whether a jeweller is able to perform a job or not.

Michael Hill deserves no star ratings.

I bought a diamonds ring from Michael Hill in 2021 and paid for care plans. I was told I needed to bring the ring to the store for inspection every 6 month. I took the ring to the store on 05/05/2024 and the staffs refused to sign the paper after the inspection because they believed I didn’t bring it to the store in October 2023 which I can swear on my life that I did. I never knew the staff that attended to me at the time didn’t or forgot to sign the paper. I called the customer service to help with it, the lady said nothing could be done. She too was so abrupt and rude. The lifetime warranty is a complimentary service and it’s a strict policy which I found absolutely ridiculous and disgraceful. I believe it’s their deliberate practice in order to void the warranty. The six month is to get customer loyalty and to get you buying more of their rubbish products.
It’s a scam company that one should stay away from. That’s me done with them. I wish I read the reviews before I made my purchase. I am considering my option of suing them. What a load of nonsense.

Terrible Customer Service

In March 2024, I received an email from Michael Hill that I had been awarded a free gift - a travel-sized Jewellery Cleaning Kit ($25 value) and went to the store at Seven Oaks Mall in Abbotsford, BC a couple weeks later to collect my gift. The fairly new store associate and the assistant manager had trouble scanning the bar code and could not find the coupon when they entered the code. The assistant manager said he would investigate and requested I forward the email I received, which I did. The manager called me a couple days later to say that there had been an error and I was the only customer in Canada who had received the email due to the store putting an incorrect setting on my account profile. He even had the audacity to complain that he got a call about it from the assistant manager on his day off. And that was it.

I was extremely upset as I had been quite excited by the offer and felt this could have been handled much better. For the low cost of the item, I couldn't believe that the store wouldn't provide the gift in way of an apology and was made to feel as if I was somehow in the wrong for the situation, though it was the company's fault. This has soured my view of the company, as the behaviour displayed by staff is usually a reflection of leadership at the top.

When my husband and I were in that store the previous fall to purchase an anniversary ring, the staff were very attentive in trying to make the sale. It seems that is the extent of their attention and once the sale is done, they behave quite the opposite. I did not appreciate the way I was treated throughout this entire situation. I felt like I was a crook trying to con them when I was simply trying to redeem the coupon the company sent me.

I do not plan to do any further business with Michael Hill. Nor will I provide any positive feedback about the company to anyone.

If i could give a minus star i would…

If i could give a minus star i would certainly!!
Daughters gifted me a beautiful gold chain necklace.
Value $2500+
After 6 months the spring in the clasp let go and luckily it was as i was putting it on and the chain and clasp dropped to the floor.
Took it in the Northwest store in Auckland.
They sent it away to see if was neglect, wear and tear or a faulty clasp.
After 2 months of trying to get an answer they told me it was wear and tear and would be charging me $600 for a new clasp.
I think not!!
I finally managed to get the chain returned not repaired.
What a dreadful company and Mr Hill should stand by his products.
This is selling product that is obviously not fit for purpose.
Please give me the money back.

If I could give a no star I WOULD!!

If I could give a no star I WOULD!!! Terrible products that break and customer service that is horrible. They do not stand by their products or warranties. I will never purchase from Michael Hill again and encourage others to do the same. I ordered online and when I received the product, it was broken. I had to jump through hoops just to talk to someone and fight hard for a refund as they did not see the problem as their fault. They also cleaned my ring in-store and the diamond fell out, then they said it was not their fault or responsibility.

Worst product and Service, should be zero stars. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Brought an $8,000.00 Tennis bracelet for my wife’s birthday. It lasted two weeks and snapped. Returned to the store to be told she was too rough with it and broke it on purpose.
They ordered us a new bracelet to replace it. It would take three weeks. My wife called on week five and was told to come and collect it. I went is as I was close to the store. I was then told that the replacement had been snapped by a staff member. She had not been trained properly on how to handle the bracelet. From that statement I asked if the bracelet was faulty and that I would like a refund. This was after us having two weeks use. After a 1 hour argument about the quality and me telling them that my wife would not wear the bracelet due to concern it would be lost, I gave up and they offered to have an independent quality evaluation done on our behalf, order a new bracelet and add a safety chain on the latch. Note: it wasn’t around the latch that broke. Three weeks has passed any my wife rang and the bracelet has arrived. My wife collected the bracelet, went to the car and put the bracelet on. It broke again! She has just gone back to the manager again and been told that it needs two people to put the bracelet on. She has asked for a refund and been told, no chance. They offered a credit, but who would want it if that’s the quality on offer and there is nothing in the shop she likes. This has been the worst experience I have ever had from a retailer of any kind. Worst quality jewellery and should be avoided. We have left the bracelet at the shop and asked for a receipt and copy of the quality report. We will now have to engage a lawyer and use the New Zealand Consumers Guarantee Act to get what we can. At this point I am happy to pay a layer on principle and right off the funds.

If I could give 0 stars, I would.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My engagement ring, worth $2500, tarnished after 3 months.. twice! Every time I take it back, staff say it just needs rhodium replating and they send it away for two weeks. Same thing happens three months later. Staff try to tell me it's normal. Such a rip off! It's been 'away for repair' longer than it's been on my finger at this point. I don't have a strenuous job and take it off when showering, sleeping etc. Doesn't make any difference. Still tarnishes.

Received a gold bracelet from my children for my 80th birthday October 2023. In November returned the bracelet, too tiny for my wrist. Added $$$ and purchased a new bracelet with larger chains. Wearing the bracelet only occasionally, suddenly it fell apart. Returned to Michael Hill store, and they replaced the bracelet for an identical one. Wore the bracelet very seldom. Then suddenly for no apparent reason while turning a page in a book, this bracelet fell apart at exactly the same link as the previous bracelet. Michael Hill wanted $$$$ to repair the bracelet, close to the original price when I purchased it. NO WARRENTY !! Picked up the bracelet but the salesclerk was very obnoxious insisting that it was NOT a manufacturing fault. definitely NO WARRENTY. WE WILL NEVER ENTER A MICHAEL HILL STORE AGAIN.

Don’t buy in MICHAEL HILL

Don’t buy in MICHAEL HILL, the customer service is terrible terrible, the sellers even lie to you to try to sell you repairs on your ring. The jewellery is poor quality and overpriced and even they don’t value their diamonds with GIA. They use their own valuation to value their diamond. If I would have known better, I wouldn’t have bought from them. Please don’t waste your money in their products.
