I have just left interactive investor for a marginally better deal but wish to congratulate them on their service over the last couple of years

Like most people (I think) I have found this particular subject so difficult and complex to understand. I spoke to Baljeet and have never spoken to anyone like him! He has the patience of a saint (unlike myself) and skillfully guided me through what felt like a maze of information. It is so hard to do these things but obviously very important to get it right. Very rarely do you get the opportunity to speak to the same person but Baljeet offered this option...poor guy, it only took me 20 minutes to call him back.

Beulah resolved my tax query perfectly.
Thank you.

I transferred my pension to ii based on a recommendation and so far I'm very happy. There is a very wide choice of investments and both the website and app are easy to use. The fees are very competitive as well. I just had one issue I needed help with; I got through to customer support very easily and Dami resolved it for me without delay.

Like many Hargreaves Lansdown customers, I moved to Interactive Investor (ii) following HL’s pricing and fee changes. Unfortunately, after only a relatively short time with ii, I’ve had more negative interactions than I experienced in over 25 years with HL. The accumulation of issues has left me questioning whether I can trust ii with my investments. Personally, my confidence has gone, and as soon as I’m able, I’ll be moving back.
Don’t rely solely on influencers or comparison articles. The only way to understand the platform is to use it yourself. In my experience, many aspects feel outdated compared with other investment platforms.
The phrase “you get what you pay for” has certainly rung true for me. While I could eventually adapt to the app itself, it’s the trading process and customer service that have been the biggest disappointments. Compared with HL or Trading212, the overall experience is significantly behind.
The biggest issue is the trading journey, particularly for US shares.
For ISA and non-ISA accounts, buying Nasdaq-listed stocks is unnecessarily complicated. Rather than entering an investment amount (for example, £10,000) and having the platform calculate how many shares you can purchase, you’re expected to work it out yourself. That means calculating the USD value of your capital, estimating the FX fee, working out how many shares you can afford, and then manually entering the quantity. By the time you’ve finished the calculations, the share price may have moved, forcing you to start again. It feels like a process from another era and makes trading on the move frustrating.
Another major frustration is the lack of transparency around FX costs before placing a trade. ii displays the exchange rate but doesn’t clearly calculate and display the FX charge you’ll pay. Instead, you’re expected to know the fee thresholds and calculate the cost yourself. At the same time, you also have to calculate how many shares your available cash will actually buy. Both of these calculations could easily be handled by the platform, yet they aren’t.
The additional process for US share purchases within an ISA also seems unnecessarily cumbersome. ii says this is required for HMRC compliance, but the implementation feels poorly designed. You’re required to enter a maximum purchase price before buying, whereas other platforms simply provide a live quote showing all costs and allow you to proceed. Combined with T+1 settlement, you don’t receive the final transaction details until the following day. ii’s explanation is that this prevents ISA accounts from going overdrawn, but I never encountered this issue during 25 years with HL.
Customer service has also been disappointing. On several occasions I felt my concerns were dismissed rather than properly understood, with inconsistent explanations depending on who I spoke to. That gradually eroded my confidence in the platform.
Finally, my experience of the complaints process was poor. My complaint appeared to be reviewed without a proper understanding of the issues I’d raised. The handler largely read from prepared responses and seemed more interested in closing the complaint than investigating it thoroughly.
Overall, Interactive Investor may offer lower headline fees, but for me those savings have come at the expense of usability, transparency and customer service. I regret switching and intend to move my investments elsewhere as soon as I can.

I am a recommended friend to ii. A big shout to George Duddridge for handling my issues swiftly and professionally. Very knowledgeable. Also a great service provided by the Transfer Team, Melissa Bentick (ISA) for handling my SIPP and ISA transfer.

I needed to update the company on matters concerning a family member and also regarding power of attorney access to the account. Surriya listened carefully to my request with empathy and talked me
through the process. I felt reassured after the call.

I spoke with Baljeet today to set up a contribution. He was helpful, knowledgable and easy to understand; his instructions were simple to follow and made the whole process very straightforward. I have transferred to Interactive Investors from James Hay/Nucleus because it was becoming impossible to do anything on their platform or get anything done by support personnel, so this was a very pleasant change and continues to justified my change.
