🚲 Hitway BK2 Review: A Shiny Disappointment That Rusts in Weeks

I purchased the Hitway BK2 on 20th August, drawn in by its sleek design, foldable frame, and promise of convenient urban commuting. On paper, it looked like a smart investment. In reality, it’s been a frustrating lesson in poor quality control and dismissive customer service.
Faults Within Weeks
After just 60 miles of use, I noticed rust forming on the front forks and chrome peeling off around the suspension area. This wasn’t after months of hard riding in harsh conditions—this was within a few weeks, under normal use. For a brand-new bike, this kind of deterioration is unacceptable and frankly embarrassing for the manufacturer.
Cold Customer Support
• 5th September: I emailed Hitway to report the issue.
• 8th September: They replied asking for photos.
• I sent the photos promptly—then radio silence.
• 10th September: I followed up again, asking what was happening.
• Their response? I should take the bike to a shop for rust prevention. They offered to reimburse the cost, but completely ignored the issue of the chrome peeling, which is clearly a manufacturing defect.
Let’s be clear: I shouldn’t have to arrange rust prevention on a bike that’s less than a month old. That’s not maintenance—it’s damage control for poor materials and shoddy finishing. And the chrome issue? Not even acknowledged. No apology, no offer of replacement parts, no accountability.
What This Says About the Product
The BK2 might look good in photos, but the build quality is cheap and fragile. If chrome is flaking off and rust is setting in after 60 miles, what will this bike look like after 600? The fact that these issues appeared so quickly suggests substandard components and zero quality assurance.
Buyer Beware
If you're considering the Hitway BK2, ask yourself: do you want to spend your money on a bike that starts falling apart before the first battery charge is even used up? Do you want to chase down support just to be told to fix their mistakes yourself?
This isn’t just a bad experience—it’s a warning. The BK2 is a shiny trap: it looks appealing, but underneath, it’s rust, flake, and frustration.

EDIT********

Received new forks which I have to fit myself, however upon unwrapping I found they were damaged and the small eye piece for the brake cable was snapped off, they arrived wrapped in a plastic bag and with very little protection other than a thin piece of foam.

Contacted the supplier straight away but had absolutely no response from them. People if you want cheap Chinese rubbish, buy one of these !!

The only recourse is to do a charge back on my card.

EDIT #2

New set of forks sent again and just delivered, yup you guessed it, the same piece broken off, what's worrying is that its supposed to be steel and to break it, it must be very brittle !! poor poor quality !!

EDIT #3

Update to my original review:

I’m posting this update because HITWAY has continued to misrepresent the situation and act in breach of UK consumer law. because they didn't have any forks to replace the faulty ones they offered another bike instead.

They now claim I "requested" a used bicycle, which is categorically false. On the 28th September, HITWAY explicitly offered a used BK2 bicycle, stating:
“To better resolve your issue, we can request a used BK2 bicycle in 80% condition. Is this an option for you?”
I replied:
“What are you proposing?”
a clear request for clarification, not agreement.

On the 30th September, they followed up with:
“We can request a replacement for your used BK2 bicycle. This is a complete bicycle, not a replacement part.”
This wording implied a **new** replacement, and I accepted the offer on that understanding. They did not reconfirm that the item would be second hand, nor did I consent to receiving a used product.

Only after shipment did they restate that the bike was pre owned and it turned out to be a different colour than the original. They then advised me to refuse the package so the courier could take it back, despite knowing it had already been delivered the day before, confirmed by their own tracking.

They’ve also tried to, run down the returns window by delaying clear communication constantly using the excuse we are on holiday, and are now attempting to make me pay to return both bikes, despite the original being faulty and the replacement misrepresented.

This conduct is in clear breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which protects against misrepresentation and requires sellers to cover all return costs when goods are faulty or not as described.

I’ve now had to initiate a chargeback through my bank and issued formal notice of legal action via the Small Claims Court.

Avoid this company at all costs.

Over promise under deliver

After spending a lot of money with Hitway. I would not recommend this company in any way! After 2 failed delivery dates where I was waiting for my new bike. I finally received my order. After trying to contact customer service team they do not respond to any emails and do not care about any issues you have.

Dear Mr. Perry,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear about your frustration with the delivery process.

To clarify: your order was originally scheduled by BJS for 25 August. At your request, we attempted to bring the delivery forward to 24 August. Unfortunately, 24 August was a UK bank holiday when BJS could not operate, so the delivery was moved to 28 August. As your reply to our notification arrived outside working hours, the delivery had to be shifted by one more day.

We fully understand that this caused inconvenience. However, the delivery schedule was determined by the logistics provider and not by us directly. We have done our best to explain the situation clearly and in time.

Kind regards,
The HITWAY Support Team

Do Not Buy a Hitway Bike - read Below

i bought an electric bike in May 2025, it was delivered very quickly. however less than 80km into using it the module system failed and came up with a E10 message - i contacted Hitway, the apologised and send they woudl send a new screen out and asked me to install, which i thought was strange, anyway i installed and it fixed the problem. then 2 days later the same error message came up, i contacted them and they said we will send out a new modular - can i replace and install - we went through the same process and the bike worked for a short time. now it has failed again with the same error E10. this time i got the following message: "Could you please visit a local bike repair shop to check where the cable issue might be, as it could be the cause of the E10 error on your display?
If it's not convenient for you to visit the repair shop, we can proceed with sending you a replacement BK17 integrated cable. Would this solution work for you? "

i seem to now be their repair shop - i have asked three times now to replace or collect and return money - neither of which has been addressed - very disappointing - i am going to leave this same review daily until HITWAY agree to return my money or send a replacement bike

Terrible service

It's been over a month since I bought a display and I still haven't received it. Customer service accused me of an incorrect address when in fact there was no error. Terrible service. No concrete action to quickly resolve the issue.

Dear Customer,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and delay caused by the BK6S display.

Here is a summary of the situation:

On August 13, we were notified that the order could not be delivered due to an address issue, and the package was returned to our warehouse. The order was initially shipped via DPD.

On August 27, our team discovered that the returned order had not yet reached our warehouse and therefore had not been reshipped. We acknowledge that we should have immediately reshipped the order once the delivery issue was identified and informed you promptly—this was our mistake.

The staff member responsible for this case has been reassigned to ensure better handling of such situations in the future.

On September 4, you contacted us again, and we immediately arranged for reshipment via GLS on September 5.

The display was successfully delivered on September 10.

We fully understand that the initial delay and lack of timely communication caused you inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize. Measures have been taken to improve our customer service processes. We will now monitor logistics more closely to provide timely updates and ensure smoother handling of similar cases.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We remain committed to delivering better service in the future.

Kind regards,
HITWAY Support Team

Hitway BK29s with good customer service

I bought a Hitway BK29s in August. Delivery was super fast. As the system entered the wrong address when ordering, I contacted customer service, who corrected it immediately. Even when I had two or three questions after the purchase, customer service always responded in a friendly and competent manner within two days (thanks Rae). I don't understand some of the bad reviews. I don't think people realize that Hitway bikes are cheap, labeled Chinese products, but that they certainly offer quality for a low price. Of course, you can't expect the same service when ordering online as you would in a specialist shop, where you'd pay several thousand euros for an e-bike. Anyone who orders a bike like this should be aware of that. My BK29s is definitely top-notch. Of course, it has components that could be better (e.g. brakes), but that would also increase the price. And it also seems logical to me that practically no repair shop touches these bikes, since they want to sell their own high-priced bikes and have no interest in tinkering with a "cheap" Chinese bike. It also depends on how you approach a mechanic. Taking all this into account, Hitway bikes are a great value for money. I think my Hitway BK29s is great. It's been fantastic so far (I've already ridden over 200 km with a lot of fun), and I hope I'll enjoy it for a long time to come.

Great product but remember these bikes are heavy

Hitway bikes are a great product and well worth the asking price, the only problem was and I should have be checked is they are too heavy for a standard motorhome bicycle carrier. Remember when buying these bikes for a camper or motorhome you will need an extra heavy duty carrier for them. The return process was simple and easy it took a few days but I did receive a full refund which is great.

Dear Mr Wright,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we’re truly sorry to hear about the issue with the rear bushes of your BK9 after 9 months of use.

As your bike was purchased through Amazon UK, the initial warranty service is typically handled by the respective seller on that platform. This is standard practice to ensure faster and more direct support. However, after speaking with you, we understand that you’re willing to cover the cost of the replacement parts, and we are happy to provide the necessary components directly to you.

We appreciate your patience and regret any inconvenience caused. Please don’t hesitate to reach out again if you need further assistance – we remain at your disposal.

Kind regards,

Dear Mr Burford,

Thank you for your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear about your experience.

We understand your frustration, especially after several years of use. As your bike has been in service for 4–5 years, some parts are unfortunately no longer in stock on our side. However, we did help identify a compatible part available on Amazon and shared this suggestion with you for a faster solution.

In addition, after re-evaluating your case, we have consulted our product team again and will do our best to source a compatible spare part for you. This may take some time, but we are committed to supporting you.

As a gesture of goodwill, we would also like to offer you a potential discount on your next HITWAY purchase, should you consider upgrading in the future.

We truly appreciate your long-term support and hope to turn your experience around.

Kind regards,
HITWAY Customer Service Team

Looks good but..

I purchased a bk9 in March this year 2025. Firstly there was a scratch on the bike but was disappointed to find that anyone can take the bike as the key is only for removing the battery (it doesn’t disable the battery) which means you would have to remove the battery and lug a heavy battery around with you if you pop of to the shops . The battery also had an on/off switch in addition to the control panel on/off? The rear light that comes with the bike is not powered by the main battery pack it’s a cheap cost cutting add on so has to be turned on by the button on the rear light it’s self . The 250w motors torque is very weak (58nm) for a bike of this size and is more suitable for flat surfaces, (most e-bikes of this size have 70nm+) (I’ve also just noted that hitway are now advertising a bk9s with 70nm) you’ll need lots of pedal power if you want to take this bike off road with any gradients. The bike came with a free locking cable (nice touch) but there is nowhere for it to be mounted safely apart from the seat pin but that has a quick release handle so of no use at all. The bike looks good but im not impressed with the overall quality and performance. I also purchased a twist controller for the bike (which stated it was non refundable) just after I purchased the bike but after fitting found that it didn’t work? I wrote a review to hitway and they responded to me an apologised. They said that the bike model had been updated so the part they sent wouldn’t work and would send a new one, I’ve emailed hitway 3 times and there response is there having issues with parts? We’re approaching August now so 5 months of not being able to use my bike as I intend with a really poor after sales service from this company, I would recommend customers look elsewhere for a better bike and service.

I recently discovered HITWAY's folding e-bike collection and was genuinely impressed by the range and quality of their models. The website is clean, modern, and easy to navigate, making it simple to compare different folding bikes. I appreciate the detailed product descriptions, clear specifications, and real customer reviews that help guide the purchase. Their bikes look well-designed for urban commuting, especially with compact folding features and long battery life. Shipping and warranty information is clearly outlined, which builds confidence. Overall, HITWAY offers a strong lineup of innovative folding e-bikes for those looking for convenience, performance, and style in one package.
