Empty Gift Cards
I have now received two gift cards from the Dollarama at the stockyards in Toronto. Both were empty and bought December 2023 by trustworthy individuals. The receipts attached to the gift cards had a different card number on them than the card. Clearly the cashiers are scamming customers and then there is no way to get your money back since card number different on the receipt. Beware!
Pitiful Dollarama Customer Service
Dollarama has no people you can contact. The employee put the wrong amount onto a gift card and sold it to me. I had other items on my bill and I saw the bill was extremely high but before I could withdraw my card from the tap pay -- it went through. The employee refused to correct the amount... they loaded $20 more onto a gift card than I asked. I was advised to contact them via email and they do not understand english. In the email, they fail to understand the problem and continue writing me as if I have a defective card. They cancelled the card and I did not want that either. They now are hoping to mail me a cheque for the full amount. I hate this company so much, I would have just accepted the gift card with the wrong amount. They fail to understand english in the email, they call the card defective they fail to acknowledge the issue: That the employee put the wrong amount on the gift card. Dollarama is the worst, most inept organization on the planet. Be extra careful when you buy gift cards. the non english speaking cashiers load the wrong amount onto the cards and then they cannot change it -- and your money will be stuck in limbo for weeks with them. They are ridiculous.
Aggressive SA!
I was in the Dollarama in Sudbury Ont.(Notre Dame Ave.) and they had the carpet changing company in. He put his rugs on the carts as customers entered and no one was able to get a cart- no big deal. An elderly lady with a cane was distraught and required a cart. I went around a cardboard Mini eggs display on the other side of the door to gather a cart for her as 1) this is what we do to help
Seniors/disabled and 2) she looked in discomfort.
From the aisle she was stocking, a sales associate came barreling towards me and yelling to not move the display (again— a cardboard display). I tried to explain the situation and she was still yelling at me to go around. I moved the precious display right back to its position and grabbed the cart and gave it to the senior. Bystanders told her to “relax”. I asked her name and she gave it to me.
At no time did she apologize to anyone and continued her rant. I had 3 seperate customers come up to me and say “good for you”! Even the “carpet man” apologized. I told him it was not his fault and she made it a huge deal.
1) are your staff trained in AODA?
2) how on earth can you employee someone that is verbally aggressive and responsive over such a small incident?
3) perhaps some empathy coaching would help your employees
I hope this gets back to the store and someone— anyone-trains these employees!!!!!
Sad world we live in when the movement of a cardboard display outweighs the safety and security of a disabled senior!
Not taking back defective Products
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with Dollarama at Lansdowne Park Shopping Centre (5300 Number 3 Rd., Richmond, BC). The customer service in that location has been very disappointing.
Recently, I purchased a product that turned out to be defective. When I attempted to return it at the store, my request was denied. I am left wondering: what am I supposed to do with a defective product?
SUPER DIRTY WASHROOM_POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Dollarama - Coquitlam Centre Mall, BC
2850-2929 Barnet Highway, Coquitlam, BC V3B 5R5
After years of being a customer at Dollarama, I witnessed something unbelievable at this store. I purchased 7 baskets, and just 1 second after the purchase, while still in front of the cashier, I noticed that 4 of them were smaller than expected. I asked to exchange them for the correct size, but the cashier called the manager, who refused. She said that under no circumstances—despite the fact that I hadn’t left the store—I could exchange them, even if I was willing to pay more for a larger size. Every manager has the authority to make an exception, but she was unwilling to do so. Instead, she told me to send an email to Dollarama.
When I asked for the manager's name, she refused to share it, stating, 'I don’t share my personal information.' I found it strange that the manager and cashier didn’t even have a nickname or any form of identification.
Additionally, the restroom was unbelievably dirty and unusable. I’m not sure how anyone could use a bathroom full of poops, with a sink covered in vomit. Who is responsible for maintaining the sanitation of the washroom?
I'm not sure who owns this store, but I strongly recommend providing customer service training for the staff and improving the cleanliness and sanitation of the store.
I have never seen such poor customer service in Canada. It's very disappointing to see Dollarama being handled this way.

Please do not buy the sardines tins from Dollarama.
The quality is absolutely terrible (imported from China) with no taste and very bad quality. Your regular grocery stores do not sell this pathetic brand
Worse customer service.
100 emails 100 phone calls and no one gives you any resolution. Incompetent people hiding behind phones and emails. Dollarama does not care about customer service but cares only about profit.
Poor management and manager. Shop somewhere else.
A manager at the Dollarama on Merivale in Ottawa, Spojmai Wardak has:
- Yelled at an employee in front of customers
- Insulted her own employees at them and behind their back
- Tried to control the narrative but acts lost when you call her out
- Been rude to customers
- Been toxic, controlling and outright terrible
- Told employees to act professional when she hasn't been herself.
As well, employees are known to clock out but still work if necessary for fear of being reprimanded if they didn't finish their tasks.
She is perhaps the worst manager I've seen and people have said she's the worst manager they've ever worked for. I would suggest shopping somewhere else if you're looking for a store with good management. Furthermore, she should be investigated for her poor behavior.
Never again…
I’d give zero stars if I could every single time I go into the store security or an lpo follows me, harasses, me then tries to say they see me stealing! I don’t have anything nor have I passed the point of sale so I walk out. Last time the guard demanded to search me and I flat out said nope you wanna search me call the cops cuz you ain’t gonna find squat! And walked out! Blackbird doesn’t even care in fact one guard told me and I quote I can do whatever I want! Is that the kind of people you want in your store! Meanwhile I’ve seen people steal and I point it out but they’re like it’s not my job! So what your job is to stand there and look pretty? Meanwhile merry bands of thieves run amok and do whatever they want because your too busy harassing bipoc and disabled people who don’t steal?
Unpleasant Experience Due to Rude Cashier, Otherwise Great Store
I typically enjoy shopping at Dollarama as the store offers great products at affordable prices. However, on multiple occasions, I've had a very negative experience due to one particular cashier. She is extremely rude, emotionless, and lacks any empathy towards customers. She consistently yells at customers and creates an uncomfortable shopping environment.
It is really disappointing to leave the store with a spoiled mood because of her behavior. I have no issues with the other staff, as they are friendly and helpful, but her attitude is a major problem. I really hope the management will address this issue, as her behavior negatively impacts the overall experience.
Please consider providing better customer service training, or reconsidering her position if necessary.
Rude manager
I went to dollarama today, and the manager who was standing in the enterence looks at me with a dirty look and no smile..and says nothing. Is it me or should all dollarama employees and management be polite and welcoming to all customers? I only know 2 employees who work there who are the only happy welcoming staff there. C&D.
I visit dollarama often and I've never had a positive experience with the manager. She's yelled at me, in front of customers, while I'm standing in line, yelled that I move my electric scooter from where it's parked. Couldn't she have approached me nicely?
Dollaramas new management Lilly, is not a nice lady. If she wants to continue her behavior i would like to speak to Muihui.
Ethics and Morals - Selling alcohol to minors
While not technically ILLEGAL, the question of selling items such as non-alcoholic beer to minors should be at the very least a topic of discussion. Lunch-time today, our local Dollarama(Lakeshore and 30th) decided it was a good idea to sell to several 12 and 13 year-olds. They proceeded to wander back to the school to consume in front of their friends and faculty.
After severe punishment at home (the faculty alerted us of the incident), I decided to head to Dollarama to have a civil discussion with the manager. Instead I was stonewalled(only had a face to face with an employee) and asked to leave a complaint. I wasn't looking for a fight, just simple acknowledgement and possibly some sort of in-store policy to be implemented. I wasn't even seeking disciplinary action for the teller.
I'm sure some parents are saying (kids will be kids), please repeat those words later in life when they are being marched in front of a judge.
It's a slippery slope when corporate greed over-rides our basic social interests. I'd like to believe that there are over-sight committees who would make the responsible decision in a case like this. They won't sell kids matches but beer is fine??
Also, what exactly is the function of a manager if not to handle internal development of the store. I'm a regular customer (at least I was) of our local store. It's implicitly irresponsible to our local community when the local management (all our businesses are locally run and managed) will not have a discussion that effects local community politics. I believe corporate should have a serious look at their management structure. Ethics training would be a plus. This may not be actionable in a court of law under current Ontario mandates and legislation, but the day will come when social justice will take the forefront. I would suggest Dollarama corporate consider this in their best interest to investigate.
Sincerely upset,
Andrew Cooper
p.s. This will be the same message I leave at the corporate complaints email.
Harassment
Don't shop at Dollarama in Lower Sackville. I've been harassed four times with an employee saying she caught me stealing but she didn't call the police. Next time I'm there if she harasses me again, I will call the police. I have nothing to hide. I've been shopping there much longer than she's been working there and I've never had any issues with other employees.
"Bell Ornaments" package
I bought a "Bell Ornaments" package at the Dollarama in North Bay. The problem is that the glue dots provided don't hold the elf, Santa or Snowman in place. Everything falls apart. Also, the hair was missing from the elf. The idea is nice and its a great craft for children however, you would really need crazy glue to make it all hold together.
Magots
I bought a gift for my cat at dollerama and when I got home I realized there where maggots on the idiom
Do not buy gift card here.
I tried to purchase a $50 gift card at Fredericton Dollarama, Main Street. the teller had trouble activating it so she asks for help from another teller. She came over and checked the balance on the card and said yes it is activated. My sight with just one eye is not good so I took their word for it.. fifteen minutes later I had my daughter check and it was clear the card was not active. I went back to the store and was told they could do nothing, the card is defective, so I would have the responsibility to contact head office by email. The local store manager was rude and would not do anything to help. Such unacceptable customer service. I will never shop at dollar store again and will spread the news NOT to buy a gift card here.

I spent $273 on fortnight gift cards at Dollarama that were not to be on the shelf because they were compromised. They would not give me a refund in store but sent me home to send an email to get my money back. After a week of replying to emails and sending pictures of all 9 gift cards they emailed me to tell me they will send me gift cards. This company is so fraudulent. Since when do stores not return your money especially when it was their error. They will never receive another cent from me. Dollar tree here I come.

I am disgusted in the behavior of one of your male staff who saw me shopping down your food isle. He then purposely proceeded to walk down and stand directly in front of me while I was determining what I was going to purchase.
Racist behavior I will not tolerate by anyone, anywhere. I have spent over $100 in this store since I started shopping there. I don't know what kind of people you are hiring but I have had enough. I have informed my family and friends of this extremely unprofessional behavior and have spoken with my father's law firm for professional advice.
I will continue to shop here but from now on I will be filming my experiences. If this racist behavior continues, I will be reaching out to my social media and TV contacts to spread the word in mass distribution.

I am so disappointed they are now using AI to hire staff. No interview or anything just sent to the store to work. You are not hiring robots you are hiring people who have to work well together. And just sending people without allowing the manager to vet them is disgusting.

You ask us to honest and constructive in our review. We'll I think your customer service is a joke. I tried for the better part of an hour to get someone on the phone. Only to be given the run around at every turn. Then adding insult to injury...you just hang up after every line or extention! How can you call that Customer service?
