The wallpaper was delivered promptly. We were very pleased with the design and quality of the wallpaper from Osborne and little. We returned one roll as we had over ordered and once it was received they refunded it back very quickly. All in all a very positive experience and my kitchen /diner looks very special.

Ralph Lauren Wallpaper
Ordered 9 rolls of Ralph Lauren “Swingtime Herringbone” wallpaper, described as “paste the wall for easy installation.” In practice, installation by experienced decorators resulted in the glass bead finish shedding during normal handling and dispersing onto hands, tools, paste and surrounding surfaces, leading to an unacceptable finish.
I supplied video evidence showing the issue developing under real installation conditions. The response was that this behaviour is “normal” and attributable to installation technique, with reliance on a separate instruction sheet included in the packaging.
If “easy installation” in this context requires brushing loose beads from the back, preventing any bead contact with pasted surfaces, and managing static so that particles do not reattach to the face, that is not something a customer would reasonably infer from the product description.
Seven unused rolls were accepted back after 92 days, but a 20% restocking charge was still applied. Two rolls used during installation attempts were not refunded.
For context, a different Ralph Lauren wallpaper was installed immediately afterwards by the same decorators without issue — which rather narrows the variable.
Communication was polite throughout. The outcome, however, highlights a disconnect between how this product is marketed and how it performs in normal use. Buyers should clarify installation requirements very carefully before purchasing.

The central issue remains unchanged. The product was marketed on your website as “paste the wall for easy installation,” yet in practice proved highly susceptible to bead transfer during normal handling, contaminating paste lines and surrounding surfaces to the point that an acceptable finish could not be achieved by experienced decorators. That is clearly difficult to reconcile with the description provided at the point of sale.
While I appreciate specialist finishes require care, the level of handling sensitivity described after the fact sits some distance from what most customers would reasonably interpret as “easy installation.” In practical terms, successful application appeared to require a degree of environmental and handling control that simply does not reflect a normal domestic setting.
I also note the apparent shift from the previously referenced 90-day position to a 30-day returns policy, together with the explanation that the 20% restocking charge was in fact Ralph Lauren’s requirement rather than your own. This change in stance is duly noted.
I was prepared to absorb the loss of the two opened rolls. However, the application of a further 20% restocking charge, despite the product being returned immediately once the issue became evident and a replacement order being placed with yourselves to keep the project moving, remains difficult to reconcile with a reasonable or genuinely customer-focused resolution.
Fortunately, ongoing renovation works at my home meant I was easily able to source in excess of £2,400 of wallpaper elsewhere via John Lewis, who have provided an excellent experience entirely free of these rather nonsensical customer service issues. I would highly recommend them. Their customer service is outstanding.
I appreciate the partial refund and hope that the difference was worth it. I wish you well.

The Swingtime Herringbone is a beaded specialty wallcovering — the glass bead finish is clearly shown and described on the product page, and detailed manufacturer installation guidance forms part of the product specification and is supplied with every order.
Beaded wallcoverings handle differently to flat-printed papers, which is precisely why specific guidance exists. In practical terms, some bead loss during handling is inherent to this finish — the established technique is simply to brush loose beads away from the pasted edge with a soft brush, which is standard practice for textured wallcoverings. The video supplied is itself instructive on this point: it includes audible contact between a hard implement and the surface, inconsistent with the soft-bristle technique required and accounting for the bead transfer captured. The comparison to a different Ralph Lauren paper installed afterwards isn't directly relevant — Ralph Lauren's range spans flat prints, grasscloths, beaded finishes and vinyls, each with its own handling characteristics.
On the commercial points: our published returns window is 30 days for a refund. The seven unused rolls were 62 days outside that window. As a goodwill exception we approached Ralph Lauren directly to take them back; they kindly agreed subject to a restocking charge — the manufacturer's term for accepting a late return of this kind, not a fee imposed by ourselves.
Having reviewed the evidence and the manufacturer's specification carefully, we are satisfied the product has been accurately described and the resolution offered is fair in the circumstances. We wish you well with the completed project.
