I have been taking courses with Citizen Cafe since October 2020 and couldn’t be happier with my Hebrew journey. I highly recommend this unique program to anyone who wants to learn modern, conversational Hebrew.

Citizens Cafe has been a high point of my life since I started 1 year ago. The learning process has been rewarding, fun, engaging and most importantly, effective. I never thought I would be able to converse and understand as much as I do after 1 year. The teachers are ALL excellent and meeting the other students from all over the world has been incredibly interesting. The program definitely creates a community as we are all in this together, working to do something very challenging. I would recommend this to anybody that truly wants to learn Hebrew and is ready to commit the time. Above all, it is SOO much fun!

If you want to be a Hebrew speaker, this is the place for you. Improving my Hebrew speaking and comprehension was one of my retirement goals. At the start of the pandemic, I saw the FB ads for Citizen Cafe and their focus on speaking. Why not try it? I was stuck at home. After the first semester, I was hooked. Their teachers and methods were effective, fun and engaging. I continue to take 2-3 semesters a year. Their classes have gotten better and better.

Amazing experience. The method, the teachers, and the materials are super fun and the system really works. If you want to learn Hebrew, after trying many different ulpanim, I can say this is by far a one of a kind experience that works and you’ll be speaking in no time.

Best way to learn Hebrew! Amazing teachers and learner support. I have tried other programs and there is no comparison, Citizen's Cafe is the best! You speak and learn Hebrew immediately and enjoy the journey!

Take into consideration that this is SQUID GAME. It is a very good program if you can keep up with the lessons AND visit the practice rooms. You can fall behind very easily if you miss one lesson. You must have a strong commitment to this program and do NOT go on vacation if you don’t intend to attend the classes. They make no exceptions.

I started my Hebrew journey with Citizen Café Tel Aviv over 2.5 years ago as a novice, albeit with a basic understanding, and am currently mid-way through my 11th semester working through the various levels as I continue my path to fluency. To say that I enjoy the experience of the Citizen Café community and learning Hebrew would be an understatement – I absolutely love it.

So as to help anyone that may be considering signing up (and no I am not being compensated to write this review), I wanted to share some insights that I hope you will find helpful.
Like many others, I always wanted to be able to speak Hebrew when in Israel. I currently divide my time between living in Tel Aviv and Florida. It used to frustrate me tremendously that I could invariably understand what someone said to me in Hebrew far better than I could speak or reply, despite a limited vocabulary. Citizen Café addresses that head on. From my very first class as a student, I was verbalizing words and phrases that I could use immediately. Will you have to conjugate verbs? – of course, but the secret sauce with this method is that you are learning everyday words, verbs and phrases that everyone in Israel uses and that you can put into practice straight away. The repetitious practice regimen in small, balanced groups each semester provides the necessary platform to be able to learn and grow. Classes are 90 minutes in duration held twice a week either online via Zoom or in-person with 20 classes comprising a full semester. Assignment to a level that matches your proficiency has been mastered by the team at Citizen Café and your progression and improvement is monitored with all of their encouragement to continue moving forward at your own pace. Additional practice tools are incredibly well thought out that include various interactive practice sessions with students of similar levels several times a week (think of them like online gym workouts for Hebrew); practice sentences; weekly flashcards to reinforce what you learned in class as well as voluntary homework assignments. Classroom tuition is led by an English-speaking Israeli with a flexible, well-constructed curriculum that makes each lesson fun, interactive and instructive. You will likely come away from each class with new vocabulary and phrases that give you the immediate confidence with which to utilize them straight away. The word “confidence” is super important because it is one of the primary factors that oftentimes holds all of us back and which Citizen Café instills in its coaching method. Even as a new Oleh I receive regular compliments from Israelis when they interact with me in Hebrew and my gratitude goes to Citizen Café Tel Aviv for instilling the confidence in me so that I can put into real world everyday use what I have studied in the classroom.

Learning a language isn’t complicated, it’s just not easy. Citizen Café has done the hard work so that you don’t have to struggle your way through it. It is structured, fun and it works.

Intangible bonus…. You will meet some great people and make new friends that you get to meetup with offline! Give it a try.

Hands down Citizen Cafe is the best way to learn Hebrew. Compared to other Ulpans that I have been in, Citizen Cafe is the only one that GETS ME TALKING like real Israelis.

The best language school, EVER, and I’ve been to many. The teachers are fantastic knowledgeable patient helpful fun, and the program is so well thought out. Not only do you attend online class twice a week, but you can rewatch the classes as well as work with the provided flashcards and practice lessons. There are also almost daily live practice sessions throughout the day for the different levels. Such a great program I cannot praise it enough. So lucky to have found Citizen Cafe

Citizen Cafe makes learning Hebrew fun. The teacher is very animated and lively. She shares Israeli pop songs with the phrases we are learning. There is a lot of involvement with other students.

I am really enjoying Citizen Cafe. I like how it makes me use my brain! The fast pace of each class keeps me alert for each of the 90 minute classes and the written review material helps me remember. The visuals and the
mnemonic devices are a big help too.

I’ve been studying at Citizen Café Tel Aviv and my experience has been amazing. I love their method — you start speaking from the very first lesson, so your brain and mouth get used to Hebrew right away. I’m now in my third semester, and all my teachers — Ido, Nitzan, and Bar — have been fantastic.

I feel very motivated to keep learning with Citizen Café because I want to become fluent. For me, it’s one of the best ways to learn a new language — practical, fun, and very effective. Highly recommend!

I'm in my 4th semester of Citizen Cafe and I truly feel my confidence building. I'm find myself speaking Hebrew more and more in public. The teacher is awesome and the pace is just right. I always look forward to my next class.

I have been trying to learn Hebrew for a number of years. I never was able to really speak without hesitation. I started learning with Citizen Cafe about two years ago. All of my Israeli friends and family say my Hebrew has advanced incredibly fast. In addition, all of the extra options that Citizen Cafe offers to help you review and practice my Hebrew are amazing (such as flashcards online and optional live practice groups via Zoom). I highly recommend using Citizen.!!!

As a teacher with a Masters’ in Educational Philosophy and another in Teaching and Learning. Citizens’ cafes’ methodology is one where they are teaching in the manner in which the brain learns. Through spaced learning, repetition, relevant content and meaningful connections and community, their approach is not only effective, but fun. My teacher, Hadar, is consistent, professional and encouraging. Hadar provides a safe space to make mistakes and learn from them. I am impressed with how much I am learning and am glad I began this journey with Citizens cafe. Everything they promised, they delivered.

I’ve always loved studying Hebrew, but it had been over 40 years since I had done so formally. After living in Israel for a couple of years many years ago, I developed a deep appreciation for the language and had always hoped to return to it one day.

When I decided to begin again, I googled “Hebrew conversational study” and came across Citizen Café. I signed up for a placement test and started shortly thereafter. Initially, I felt out of my depth and reached out to inquire about switching levels — the process was seamless and the staff was incredibly accommodating.

I’m now in my fourth semester studying with Citizen Café, and I can genuinely feel my fluency growing. The pace of improvement has been remarkable. The materials provided to reinforce what we learn in class are excellent — engaging, clear, and incredibly effective. I’ve noticed real, measurable progress since I began.

The teachers are all terrific — warm, encouraging, and skilled. The methodology they use is both modern and highly effective, making each class dynamic and practical. I couldn’t be happier with the program and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone looking to deepen their Hebrew skills in a meaningful, conversational way.
