I would have given a 5 star review if I had been able to get through to the service by phone quicker. I had left messages, sent a communication and had phoned all morning to no avail. Once I did get t... See more

Very concerning treatment of a vulnerable elderly customer
My elderly mother has been paying Care Club for home cover, but when she needed help with problems affecting her toilets, the service was refused despite her understanding that this was covered.
When she then tried to address the situation and cancel, she was told that her contract had automatically renewed only a matter of days earlier and that she was committed to another contractual period.
She has now also told me that when she said she was considering cancelling her Direct Debit because of the situation, she was told that Care Club would pursue her through a debt collection agency.
I find this particularly concerning. She is disputing the renewal and is trying to resolve a situation in which she believes she has been paying for cover but has not received the service she expected.
She is elderly and hard of hearing and has no practical access to her online account. Attempts to access it fail because the necessary confirmation email never arrives, although Care Club’s promotional and newsletter emails reach her without difficulty.
She has repeatedly tried to contact Care Club by telephone, but tells me she gets no response or promised callback. This leaves someone who is hard of hearing spending considerable amounts of time trying to contact the company simply to understand what she is paying for and get the matter resolved.
I submitted a detailed formal complaint on her behalf asking Care Club to explain the refusal of service, identify the contractual term they relied upon, provide evidence of the renewal notification they say was sent, address the problems accessing her account, and cancel the disputed renewal.
A week later, we have still received no acknowledgement or substantive response to that formal complaint.
We are now seeking independent consumer advice and have formally disputed the purported renewal and associated charges.
I find the overall treatment of an elderly customer extremely disappointing and concerning. She should be able to understand what she is paying for, access information about her account, receive a response when she asks for help, and have a genuine dispute investigated rather than being left unable to obtain a response.
I will happily update this review if Care Club engages with us and resolves the matter satisfactorily.
UPDATE – 19 August 2026
Since writing this review, Care Club has responded regarding the toilet repair. Their engineer's assessment stated that extensive remedial work was required, including replacing the concealed cistern, removing the toilet pan, cutting away tiles, rebuilding the internal frame, replacing tiles and installing a service hatch. Care Club quoted £1,082.40 including VAT for this work.
My mother's regular local plumber, who is highly experienced, subsequently attended and fixed the same problem within minutes for £75 in total (£25 labour and £50 parts). None of the extensive work proposed by Care Club was required.
This is not simply a case of two plumbers quoting different prices for the same job. The independent plumber was able to resolve the problem without replacing the cistern, removing the toilet, cutting away tiles or carrying out the other extensive work Care Club had said was necessary.
He was sufficiently concerned by what had been proposed that he discussed it with us and reduced his own labour charge because the actual repair was so quick. We have his written report/invoice.
This is also the second occasion on which we have had concerns raised by independent local plumbers about work Care Club said was required. On the previous occasion, my mother actually paid Care Club more than £200.
I have now raised these additional concerns formally with Care Club and asked them to explain the very substantial discrepancy between their engineer's assessment and the repair that was actually required. The other issues raised in my original review — including the disputed renewal, account-access difficulties, unanswered communications and reported warning about debt collection — also remain part of our formal complaint.
I will continue to update this review fairly if Care Club provides an explanation or resolves these matters.
Still want to cancel
Got signed up to the monthly service by Rightio in January. I was disappointed by Rightio's service so I switched to British Gas. I tried to cancel this monthly service but the Care Club didn't agree - haven't used a single penny of the service and won't be using it. Cancellation policy not included in original pdf I got from Rightio and doesn't fit legal framework in my opinion.
prompt action
prompt action, they fixed the problem and I was pleased with their work.
The service was really neglectful and dangerous.
The service was really appalling. My elderly mum’s toilet had an internal blockage and it took 72 hours and 4 visits from different engineers, before we eventually called a plumber ourselves who took 10 minutes to unblock the toilet. Numerous calls and emails and a notification from Scottish Water to explain it was an internal issue and needed a plumber. I explained so many times that my mum was 80 and had just come out of hospital after major surgery and this was her only toilet and they still didn’t fix the issue. My mum pays £12 a month for a service that not only did she not get, but actually prevented her from getting help. They were neglectful and caused harm. I have repeatedly requested for feedback on why it went so wrong and have had no response. Apparently there are no managers available to speak to customers at any time. I actually feel sorry for the staff answering the calls as they seem to have no support or any autonomy to make a decision.
