Great learning app that’s easy to use however I didn’t want it long term. I forgot to cancel and, despite their terms, they issued me a refund out of goodwill. Great customer services.

Written by the company

Brilliant helps learners achieve much higher levels of ability in STEM, in less time, with more purpose and joy. Its content spans algebra, programming, and other quantitative problem solving across math and computer science. Brilliant’s lessons prioritize visual representations and active learning. Lessons build intuition with visual explanations, hands-on manipulation, and concrete computation. Brilliant doesn’t teach how to do something before asking questions—instead, it lets learners try to find a solution before learning the procedure. Every lesson has associated practice sets. For personalized practice, Brilliant predicts the optimal next problem to ask, so that learners are adequately prepared to answer future questions. This includes spaced repetition in weak areas and mixing practice problems from different concepts, so that learners must identify what approach to use to solve each problem, rather than just applying the same procedure to every problem. Brilliant’s courses are crafted by multiple IMO medalists and PhDs from MIT, Caltech, Stanford, and Harvard. Brilliant serves people who take pride in having a well-trained mind—students seeking to excel in STEM, professionals learning new skills or refreshing dormant ones, and lifelong learners staying sharp. Brilliant’s optimized learning experience is not only effective, interactive, and adaptive—it’s also fun. The gamification layer provides scaffolding for motivation and habit formation. This provides another tool to help learners stick with learning even in the absence of tutors or parents who help foster motivation. The content itself is also designed to feel fun—from the pedagogical design of the interactives and problem progression, to the types of sounds, feedback, and haptics as learners interact and progress through levels of progressively more difficult problem solving in a topic.

Perfect for difficult concepts!

Thanks Sandy, I love the brilliant app. Soo well presented. As someone with ADHD, I’ve so struggled to get my head around so many concepts. Now I can take advantage of so many avenues that have been closed off.
Thank you so much!

Scam alert - unauthorised payments after cancellation

Be careful signing up to Brilliant. They will make large unauthorised debits after you've cancelled the subscription and will refuse to refund the money.

In response to Brilliant, that is simply not true. I cancelled the subsription but was then was charged $171.6 USD. I suggest you review your company ethics and practices because going off my experience and judging by the feedback of several other customers the issue is ubiquitous.

Reply to Brilliant: let me clarify for you, I cancelled the subcription during the free trial period in May 2025. (Had I known this would happen I would have taken a screenshot as proof but I was naive). Then I was charged in June 2025 without my knowledge, which I only became aware of recently while filing taxes, Disgraceful and unethical! This matter could easily have been resolved with a full refund and apology, but instead Brilliant doubled down and gas lit. Keep the money! You will never get my business again. I hope prospective customers read this before supplying their payment details to this unscrupulous company!

I have already dealt with the (not so) Brilliant support team. The support team may as well be robots. They don't read or address customer complaints and respond with cookie cutters. I raised this issue with two staff members, neither appeared to have read my complaint, nor address my issue. Anyhow, i have raised the issue with my bank because i have gotten no where dealing with brilliant.

Also i did not "accept any trial extentions" as suggested. That is untrue.

Thanks for following up and sharing your experience — I’m sorry for the frustration this caused. We want to clarify that charges aren’t made after a successful cancellation. A subscription remains active unless cancellation is fully completed before the renewal date, with pricing and renewal timing shown in advance during checkout and in account settings. In this case, the trial stayed active because trial extensions were accepted, so the subscription didn’t cancel and later renewed.

We understand how upsetting unexpected charges can feel, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. If you’d like us to take another look or have any remaining questions, our support team is happy to review things again and help clarify.

Scammy feel

Ridiculously hiding the price of the premium package even though they keep forcing it upon you. They keep advertising 30 days free trial and 20% discount on every step but not showing the actual price. Even when you get to the point of entering card details you still have to unhide the "details" to finally see how much they want to charge you. It all has a feel of a scam. I know it's not and it generally gets good reviews, and it's not actually a scam site, but if you've got good content you shouldn't be trying to hide the charges in such a scammy way. It just puts you off completely regardless of how decent the content may be. They won't see me back any time soon. Just can't trust them.

Awful company

Awful company. Emailed support within a few hrs of money leaving account explaining I did not want the subscription and was struggling to figure out how to cancel purchase. There is a right to cancel a subscription usually within 2 weeks, I emailed a few hours after payment was taken and they are charging the full annual fee, absolute rip off company

Signed up for an account to see what…

Signed up for an account to see what it's like and my inbox was flooded with emails daily. On top of that because I'd used social login the delete account wasn't intuitive at all.

Because I'd use social login didn't have a password set, however, you need to enter a password in order to delete your account. This summer waffle about being able to set a password in your social connection page whatever that is. However, it also told me that I wasn't connected to Google.

In the end, I managed to delete my account by putting a space in the password field. I didn't expect that this would work.

In the best case scenario, this is just poor Ux design, in the worse case an element of dark Ux was employed to make the account removal process unintuitive.

Brilliant have responded, let's see if they are comitted to solving the problem. What happens next will be quite telling.

I signed up for a 30 day free trial and…

I signed up for a 30 day free trial and unfortunately forgot to cancel on time. I used my account for all of three days before forgetting about it. Stupid of me, I know. I was just scrolling through my bank statements to see a charge of $165NZD!! An annual subscription charge, I had signed up for an annual subscription 30 day trial and forgotten about it. When I reached out to the support email, I received a response directing me on how to cancel a subscription. Which was not what I asked, as that ship has well and truly sailed, the money is gone and I have a yearly subscription to something I will never use. I followed up, but they are unable to refund. I believe the terms and conditions state some refunds can be processed on a case by case basis, unsure what criteria need to be met for this condition. This was not an insignificant sum of money for me.

Subscription auto renewed after I cancelled it

Had my subscription automatically renewed after having cancelled. It's been a fight to get them to explain. They claim the cancellation wasn't properly carried out. If they can prove this I stand corrected. I have a screenshot of my cancellation. Secondly, I told them I got no warning subscription renewal was about to happen. They haven't even addressed this. So, a glitch? Or company policy to keep users in the dark about upcoming renewals?

I liked the app, super useful for the math part, haven’t tried the other sections yet. I had a technical issue with the subscription cancellation (hope they fix this sooner), but a HUGE applause for the support team who responded to my emails very FAST and solved my issue in a short time.

Price tag!

My son wanted to use this app and I it is pretty good.
I have subscribed with 20% discount and expected to pay just over £80 per year... I was shocked where over £100 has been taken from my account.
Why why why such a big player like Brilliant do not report their prices including tax. In the UK this is false advertising. Just shocking.

Good support, helpful people, quick fix.

The support team took care of my particular billing issue and got it solved quickly even though it was a peculiar issue. They may have even forwarded the broader issue to their engineering team, though I'm not sure. In any case, as a new user I think Brilliant is a great product -- and their support staff is great too.

Need for brain gym?

This is one of the best things that has happen to me recently. It keeps my mind warm. A lot of knowledge that been, otherwise, getting dust in the corner is now fresh in my mind. I am not using it for learning, yet. But it's such fun.

And the method, is just great! Waaaay more fun than the University lessons.
