Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 40 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the quality of the products, frequently mentioning issues like rotten vegetables, a lack of expected ingredients such as fish or meat, and an unpleasant taste described as watery or peppery. People also felt that the products offered poor value for money, especially given the perceived decline in quality compared to previous experiences. Some people were dissatisfied with the pricing, finding certain items to be excessively expensive, particularly when compared to supermarket own brands or considering the reduced quality. Reviewers also noted problems with the product's consistency, such as undercooked beetroot or pies that were difficult to remove from their tins without collapsing.

Baxter's own Fray Bentos Pies since 2011. I've been buying them for over 20 years, they've always been great value for money, plenty of lean meat, gravy and thick Puff pastry. Price hasn't varied much... See more

The Baxter's mushy peas are as close as one can get to fresh peas in a can. I'm shocked at how great the quality is.
Tastes, smells, looks like fresh peas. I will buy again. I already told my family and friends. 👍💕💕👍👍💖💖 got to try it to believe it! 👍👍..this is a true & honest review.💕

Almost Inedible Cock-a-Leekie

One of the only gluten free soups I can eat - cock-a-leekie - just gets worse and worse. I’ve complained to them numerous times yet it keeps deteriorating. It went from plenty of chicken to a few strands and now it is two small cubes of very rubbery, squeaky “chicken“ and two giant size slices of leek. I don’t know what happened to the quality control. I guess they fired them. I just cannot eat this garbage anymore.

£4 for an onion

I usually swear by Baxters and when I bought some Kimchi I thought I was buying the best! The initial taste was fine but then I discovered that half an onion (a very cheap ingredient) had been rammed in to the pot and below it there was only liquid. I paid nearly £4 for an onion! I made contact giving batch number and product code together with a photograph (I have more) through their on-line portal ... waited, and no response. I then decided to email their customer complaints ... waited, again, and yet again no response. I will not be using Baxters for anything in the future as they do not respect or value their returning, loyal customers. I do not expect this from an establish and respected British Company. Totally disappointed.

Offered vouchers but never sent them

I made a complaint in October about the state of the tinned pie, a portion was fully squashed. I did recieve a response and was told vouchers would be sent out to cover the cost. Couple of weeks later i bought another pie and I was in the same state and I then realised, I hadn't recieved my vouchers so I filled in another complaint form explaining that I hadn't recieved vouchers and I had also purchased another pie in the same state. I wasn't fussed about a refund on the second pie as it was explained to me why this happened the first time. However I am annoyed that I was offered a voucher for my first complaint to cover the cost of the first pie and the vouchers were never sent! I won't be buying anymore!

The only tinned soup I USED to buy was baxters

The only tinned soup I buy is baxters. Or rather WAS baxters. The amount of ingredients is now so low level that I might as well buy a cheap brand.

Last week, a tin of minestrone was labelled "2 of your 5 a day" - now this has gone. I can see why.

You cant charge a premium price and provide a cheap product. Why wouldn't i just buy a cheap product?

Admittedly, they are not the only brand lowering their quality, but it feels like you WANT me to buy the aldi version.

disgusting fray bentos pie

For the first time in my life I bought a fray Bentos steak pie.I wish I had not. cooked it in a pre heated oven for 30 mins as label instructed. Awful, under top pastry was like wall paper paste, about 4 lumps of half decent steak and a lot of gravy. pastry went into the bin it was so awful. I was going to complain direct to Baxters but after reading about Fray Bentos lack of responses I have reviewed here. Never again, I have had mediocre chip shop pies that knock spots off this product. In this day and age this product should never be sold. Now have heartburn, thanks Baxters

Quality British Product

Quality British Product. The soups are the best about. They taste fresh and do not have that synthetic taste like some of the competition. They seem to have kept to the same recepies for years which is a good thing. Cock-a-leekie is the best.

Minestrone soup what a disappointment…

Minestrone soup what a disappointment .You used to be able to stand your spoon up in this soup but this was just a watery can of tomato flavoured slop.
Quality gone downhill.
Received a reply from Baxter’s food group today 24/07/2023.
I complained directly to the company about the poor quality of their soup and made reference to the price of £2.10 my local Sainsbury’s local charge.
What planet are they living on the complaint was about the soup, this product should be priced as a value product not a premium product.

Do NOT buy Cream of Asparagus soup - it is a known issue with Baxters so they tell me!!!

I emailed the address on their site to complain about VERY woody, stringy asparagus in their premium soup. After 12 days there was no reply so I phoned and was told that the email address went nowhere but they had taken a decision not to give refunds anyway so they couldn't do anything other than log my complaint but this problem was known to them already and they are working to improve it. Not a satisfactory answer I feel, as the poor product is still being sold at roughly £2.50 per can!!! I was given another email address to whom you can send your comlaint (whereby you may get an apology!) but now I have 3 complaints......rubbish product, misinformation on their site for customer care complaints and also that they don't refund- is that even legal? I will not be buying any products from them again on principal.

A once favourite soup but no more

A once favourite soup but no more. The asparagus pieces in the soup are chewy and inedible. I complained via their website, not a word back. They charge a premium price and provide worse than many own-brand soups.
