Booked to stay at Freshwater

Booked to stay at Freshwater, IOW weekend 6th -8th Dec, then storm Darragh hit the whole country! With national news advising everyone to not travel unless its essential, we rang Away Resorts on the Fri am of our holiday booking, to see if we could amend our booking to the following week. We spoke to Steve Dunn the custoner service manager for the company, who was so unhelpful! Would not alow any amendment, only if the weather forecast went to a red warning!! So we managed to get to the IOW and our holiday cottage, but we are now having a 6 hour delay waiting to find out if we can get a ferry home today! Away Resorts and Steve Dunn need to review their customer service policy with regards to adverse weather conditions, and i suggest a course in good customer service management training for senior management... such a shame as the whole team at Freshwater were amazing, thank you

Would rather stay in privately owned accommodation rather then Away Resorts accommodation

Been to the Tattershall Lakes park many of times before but it's always been at caravans that was privately owned, so this was the first time we have stayed in an Away Resorts accommodation.

We chose a luxury lodge....didn't get any luxury though.

Was supposed to be an 8 birth Lodge with the sofa bed, but was only set up for 6. Had to ask for the spare bedding to have covers, spare cutlery and glasses, only 6 chairs but apparently the site had no spares and they only suggestions was either eat sat on the sofa or eat in shifts. Very minimal cooking equipment like pans and trays. Would recommend you bring your own stuff if you want to cook.

As we had a child with us we booked to see the shows and mrs claus kitchen, the show on the Saturday started earlier then on the ticket, ticket says 730pm start but it started at 7pm. Mrs claus kitchen was rushed, not very organised and for the price was pretty naff.

We love Tattershall lakes... However...

Firstly I'd like to say how much we love Tattershall lakes and we go numerous times year .... however ... there are many things that need to be improved in order to make it even better and make it thrive in the future.
We normally stay I'm a petfree lakeside lodge with fishing peg and all we have had a couple of issues with the accommodation in the past and Tattershall rectified this by offering large sums of money off future holidays, this last weekend we went left us the most disappointed we've every been .
We recently brought a dog so we changed our accommodation to pet friendly and we were extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the lodge , it was carpeted and absolutely filthy !! The worst iv ever seen if im honest and I'm a very clean person so this had me on edge straight away .There was also the overwhelming smell of dog which to some extent I can expect because it pet friendly however my own home doesn't smell of dog and I work very hard to keep it clean so I would expect the same level of cleanliness when I'm paying hundreds of pounds to stay for 3 nights .
Other issues we had this time were the kitchen sink didn't drain properly and had a foul smell like a blocked drain and also the master shower tray just filled up with water when showering which isn't supposed to happen .
The lake we were on was the smallest iv ever seen and my partner caught nothing the whole weekend and iv never seen him so disappointed when fishing at Tattershall because the normal lake we stay in he catches 15lb plus carp !! His biggest was 25lb!!
Some positives to the weekend were the pantomimes ( brilliant ) great atmosphere, lovely food, kids love the activities, arcade etc all this stuff we love.
Upon leaving I meet a lovely lady called Andrea ( security) and she happen to ask me how my stay was so I was brutally honest with her and she wrote my concerns down about the lodge and said she would speak to someone in the office.
She also asked on things I thought Tattershall could improve on and coming from someone who would like yo own a caravan on the site one day Iv many ideas of things that could be added to improve peopls stay .
1- Having a golf cart style service to chauffeur you to and from your caravan especially at night when you may of had a couple of drinks and don't want to walk 25 mins to the other side of the park . Obviously you would have to pay for this service which I would be more them happy to do .
2- More things for the little kids to do like a soft play or a better park , in peak times the park is far far to small for all the families.
3- Give customers a choice of what lodge they stay in , this would help massively in making sure you have the best stay .
4- when booking a fishing holiday have some information in the caravan explaining what fish are in the lake your on and even a book that other anglers can write in what they have caught , it's the little things like this can make a big difference.
5- WIFI this has to be a big one that needs sorting out immediately. It's impossible to connect to the WiFi in the further parts of the park even if the password has been left .
It really needs improving to make your more chilled out stay more enjoyable in the caravan.
There are alot of thi gs that could be improved upon and I really hope that Tattershall can take people feed back on board and make some changes.
And massive thanks to Andrea for taking time out to see how our stay was and reassuring us she was dedicated to making Tattershall an even better place then it already is.

Nice view of the lake definitely not luxury accommodation

This was our second stay at The Bay Filey, first time in Indulgent Meadow Lodge and this time in an Exclusive Lake Side Lodge.

How could standards of cleanliness and levels of customer service deteriorate so much in a 12-month period?

From walking into the lodge, you could tell the general cleanliness was poor with numerous cobwebs and a layer of dust on the picture frames and mirrors etc. Unfortunately, on further inspection it was identified that there was blood splatter on the lounge blind, crisp and crumbs on soft furnishings in the lounge , mould inside the sink unit drawers in the shower room, ensuite shower drain was full of hair/scum and worse of all human faecal matter on the toilet brush. Maintenance defects included a broken rear port hall window, faulty pop up waste to ensuite sink preventing it from draining and fraying to bedroom carpet.

With regards to the furnished accommodation the illustrative pictures on the Away Resorts web site bear no resemblance to the actual furniture in the open plan dining and living area. Lodge is for four persons but there was only three dining chairs and lounge seating for three. TV is 32inch flat screen with basic Freeview channels only, It is not a smart TV so no access to on demand services.

A complaint was raised on the first day of our stay and after finally speaking face to face with the accommodation manager the lodge was subject to further cleaning and additional furniture being made available by day three of our stay.

As per Away Resorts strapline "Discover Different and Make Memories" we certainly did but our experience is not the sort of memories you would want to make.

Finally nice view of the lake but definitely not luxury accommodation

Just came back from a 4 day nightmare…

Just came back from a 4 day nightmare at golden sands Rhyl run by away resorts
I have never seen a caravan that dirty in my life absolutely disgustingly filthy smelly full of dog hairs even tho we payed for a pet free van the furniture was that dirty they finally came and took all the cushion away to clean them leaving us with nothing to sit on when the cushions came back they were soaking wet so we still had nothing to sit on for 4 days.we could not cook or eat in the caravan it was that bad so we had to eat out every day that got very expensive by the end of our stay the staff on site had no idea how to do there jobs only after arriving back home 4 days later I finally received a phone call from the manager at golden sands Rhyl and she told me she knew nothing about it has her employees had not passed on my issues to her and they were just trying to make it go away it won’t ever go away I will be contacting the 3 owners of the site and will wait and see how that goes I would just like to say I would not recommend golden sands in Rhyl to anyone you will
Definitely regret wasting your money at this place I am very surprised none of us came down with anything but that’s probably because we spent a fortune on cleaning products ourselves when we left that caravan it was a thousand times cleaner than it was when we got there absolutely disgusting golden sands Robert

Was a lovely quiet site, myself and my 2 sister all stayed in an executive lakeside caravan which was lovely, very clean and tidy, the hot tub was checked twice everyday and the guys were so helpful and polite , would definitely stay at Away Resorts again .

Disappointed as we’re not pet lovers …

St Ives
First impressions of the site were very good, well maintained and looked after. We booked a Stargazer with a sea view and hot tub. The caravan looked lovely with modern furnishings. Naively we weren’t aware the accommodation was pet friendly until we saw the neighbouring caravan had a dog. This explained the dog hairs on the sofas & floor and the dirty carpets in the hallway & bedrooms. It’s not nice to see a dog doing its business on the decking and then walk in & out a caravan.
We also felt we couldn’t sit on the soft furniture in the restaurant area due to muddy footprints, dog hair and the smell of wet dog.
Later the same day it was apparent there was a problem with the drainage in our caravan. We couldn’t use the en-suite and kept the door closed with the window open while we were in the caravan. When showering you could hear the water gurgling through the kitchen sink.
For us, it’s a lesson learned and made us aware to check in future if the accommodation is pet friendly.

Whitecliff bay- exclusive lodge

We enjoyed our stay in an Exclusive seaview lodge at Whitecliff bay for 4 nights to celebrate my birthday.
The view was stunning, the lodge was very spacious and modern and we were lucky with the weather we got to use the hot tub a few days.
We ate at the nab bar once as we mainly ate out but the food was really good and had a few drinks in the nab bar and culver club.
The culver club entertainment team were great and really trying as it was so quiet as we went in a quiet time. But I feel its quite a walk for some people that are in the site across the road. I feel the culver club should be relocated across the road to the other site as more holiday makers stay there than home owners in the original site.

The only few issues we had weren't major just
1- we found a full babies bottle under the mattress in the main bedroom when I couldn't find my ear plug i lifted up the mattress and there was a babies bottle full of juice (we don't have children)
2- the bed was really uncomfortable and small compared to a lodge we stayed at in another resort.
3- was the keyless entry to the lodge. It wouldn't lock it took a few attempts to lock the door.
4- the parking area wasn't great. You had bins for the nab bar in front of the cars made it really difficult to park your car in and out especially if people had 4x4s or suvs. The bins should be moved further down as they take up a lot of room.

We would come back to whitecliff bay but would probably stay in a Rockstar as seen they have king size beds and better parking.

1. Cleanliness

1. Cleanliness: The caravan I stayed in was not properly cleaned upon arrival. The condition of the accommodation was disappointing and not up to the standard that I expect when booking with your company.
2. Lack of Wi-Fi: I was also informed that Wi-Fi would be available during my stay. However, it was either non-existent or extremely poor throughout my time there. This was especially frustrating as I had planned to use the internet for personal and work-related purposes.

I immediately brought these concerns to the attention of your customer service team, but despite my efforts, nothing has been done to resolve the situation. I find this lack of response extremely disappointing and unacceptable, given the circumstances.

First time at tattersall lakes and it…

First time at tattersall lakes and it won’t be our last. Impressed with site , especially bar 49. Such a nice chill out bar.
Only thing is, we booked a luxury caravan, looked nothing like the vans on the pic and was too far away from everything.
As a group of 5 adults and 3 children aged 18 months , 23 months and 10 years we was very dissatisfied with the entertainment.
There wasn’t any on the sat night unless you paid extra. Although it was only £6.50 , add that up for all of our party, and even though we already had passes, we wasn’t happy about paying the extra and there wasn’t an alternative.

Reception were very dismissive of…

Reception were very dismissive of anything, but on arrival the small under counter fridge feezer was propped up with cardboard & the shelf and bottom box were missing. Goodness knows how a family of 6 (it was a 3 bed/6 person) would have got all their food in there even with a shelf and box!! But we had to just pile things up and catch them from falling when we opened the fridge. We were given various excuses the first 2 days, there are no spare shelves etc we will have to order some...followed the next day by..we put in a huge order for shelves a while ago and are still waiting for them to come. There were also supposedly NO spare fridge/freezes on site and even if there were, it couldn't be swapped as it was a big job to do that. Eventually they decided there was a spare fridge/freezer, so they brought it round and put it in the lounge where it stayed for the duration of our holiday. The other one stayed in the kitchen, one of the workers told us that we had propbably been allocated a welfare accomodation which is used as short stay emergency housing by council and therefore it's not kept to the usual standard, but when the park is fully booked they will let them out to holidaymakers if not needed. The seating was all badly stained, looked like maybe a child had wet itself on there to be honest. I will say at this point that I stayed here in July with my mum and had a lovely, clean place..this one I booked the same but not only was it awful, it had none of the same facilities,,eg the fridge/freezer in July was a proper large free standing one as you would expect for a 3 bed/6 person place. Also in July we had outdoor seating where we could have breakfast and coffee, or a glass of wine in the evening. This one didnt, reception said that's not their fault, I didn't book the right accomodation as not all have that. I showed them my confirmation which clearly states that there was to be outdoor dining space and furniture, which I had paid to have, they shrugged their shoulders and said well we dont have any to give you. They said the only vacant accomodation was a 4 bed lodge, we could move to that and pay the difference in cost which was double what we'd already paid, so we said no thanks why should we pay more, just fix what's wrong for us. They then came up with a ridiculous explanation, that only owner owened accomodation has outside dining, and Rookley are going to tell all owners to get rid of the furniture as it's causing confusion. Bearing that in mind, they then told me that our accomodation was in a bad state and no outside dining as it was probably owner owned and just booked out via Rookley rather than privately. When I pointed out that according to their own explanation, if it was owner owned it would have furniture it was another shrug of the shoulders. The day that the fridge appeared in the lounge, the tv wouldn't work although it had done previously. There was a storm so we thought maybe that was why, and didnt want to bother the emergency number, but in the morning it still didnt work so I rang first thing to report it and was assured it would be fixed that day. No prizes for guessing that when we came home that evening it wasn't working, so I did then call emergency. He came out and found the arial in the back of the TV had been knocked, presumably by the person who plugged the fridge in next to it as there was a bundle of wires and arial lead, the end of the arial was also apparently not a great connection and needed replacing so any accidental knock would mean it didn't quite connect although unless you pulled it right out and then fiddled to get it back you wouldn't see that. He also said that he checked the maintainance log and the job had been signed off as done that day, which obviously it wasnt as we'd had to call him out.
I want to say that the emergency call out and the park ground workers we spoke to were all pleasant and did their best to help when needed, it was the reception staff who just didn't care and couldn't be bothered to do anything at all to help. Based on this experience I won't return, which is a shame as it's a lovely setting and if you get lucky and get a decent accomodation it's a great place to stay. Unfortunately I've experienced the good, and this time the worst and won't take a chance again.

Would give absolutely nil if could

Would give absolutely nil if could, we booked a indulgent beach house grande, when we arrived it was certainly none of the above accommodation , the carpets would have walked out of the door they were disgusting, dirty is an understatement, same for the lounge furniture 2 matching material cream supposed sofas and a separate brown and cream chair, we covered the sofas with spare duvets.
Could not walk into the bedroom where the carpets are without footwear.
Complained to reception straight away to be told we would have to accept voucher for fifty pounds to spend in the pub on food and drinks, no other accommodation was available.
Sure the entire property had not been cleaned housekeeping was supposed to call round did not happen and we stupidly waited in for them.
The voucher turned out to be useless because the food was absolutely appalling beyond belief, 2 pizzas fed the seagulls, and the fish and chips was unacceptable also.
Would not return for free to the beach house side, we found out this was the old side apparently by nice couple renting same indulgent lakeside , even though they could not see the lake at all.
Could not really call it a lake but advertised as the lakes.
Could not make this up.

Dirty cabin and poor customer service

Very expensive 2 night stay in a supposed “ luxury” cabin at Sandy Balls. Cannot check in til 4pm and must leave by 10am so really only a day and a half. Travel cots come with NO mattress so be warned!! Ended up having my 18mth old grandson in bed with me half the night. Cabin was cold as central heating didn’t work. Shower leaked badly over floor. Cobwebs in corners and dirty yellowed areas around sink and toilet. We found staff to be very offhand and simply not looking out for customers needs. We accidentally left two coats behind and the indifference shown in trying to help us sort issue was terrible. Will NOT go back nor would we recommend as despite issues with cabin they are not prepared to consider any sort of refund.

Bag of cocaine found in caravan!!!

I stayed at Tattershall lakes from 12-16th August. I booked some activities which were cancelled due to bad weather. I was told my refund would be with me within 14 days. It’s now 18th September and I’ve received no refund. I have rang several times and also e mailed with no response. Our friend stayed in a separate caravan also with his 5 children and one of the kids found a bag of cocaine behind the sink. This was reported at the front desk and emailed also as a complaint which photographic evidence and we’ve had no response from this either. This is not acceptable and I would not recommend staying at Tattershall or booking any activities.
