Making the booking was easy. And when I collected the car, I got exactly what I had agreed to - no changes or hidden extras.

AE doesn't allow agents to change drop off location...Shocking. Never again.
I'm a Virtuoso travel advisor affiliate of AutoEurope in the UK.
I made a booking confirmation number : L4932472568
I called Thrifty to change the drop off location and they told me to make the change via AutoEurope as I'd made the booking through them.
I called AutoEurope who told me as per their Terms and Conditions it is not possible to change the drop off location unless you do so more than 48 hours before pick up.
How ridiculous! As a travel advisor we have to support our clients and sometimes their plans change - for example their drop off location and yet AutoEurope does not allow this?? How ridiculous.
I'm going to have to share this with Virtuoso as this really doesn't make them a reliable or even helpful, client-focused Virtuoso partner.
Never again.
Dont use dodgy car rental companies
I had used AutoEurope for quite a few years with no issue but recently used them for a car rental at Faro Airport with Klass Wagen. Despite taking the full insurance coverage with AutoEurope I was pressurised into taking additional insurance by Klass Wagen which was very expensive. I tried addressing my concerns with AutoEurope on 2 occasions, including when I was at the car rental company, but there were absolute zero interest in trying to address my concerns with a complete abdication for the services I had paid for and a lack of interest to reconcile the issue with the car provider. Of concern, Klass Wagen have had numerous recent reviews for miss selling rental car insurance at the threat of highly excessive charges for customers that do not comply. Auto Europe should be more diligent about where they direct their customers to or at least offer the proper support for which their customers have paid for. I did not proceed with the car rental with Klass Wagen as it could have potentially cost me 2400 euro.
I had a very poor experience with Auto…
I had a very poor experience with Auto Europe. I was mis-sold insurance and misled about the car rental provider. I was explicitly told the hire would be with Enterprise, but on arrival it turned out to be with Guerin instead. This caused significant problems, particularly at vehicle return, where alleged damage was raised that I did not cause.
Although Guerin have since returned my deposit in full, the stress and inconvenience could have been avoided if Auto Europe had been honest and supportive from the outset. Unfortunately, Auto Europe provided no meaningful assistance at all. My emails were met mainly with generic, robotic responses that completely failed to address the actual issues.
I expected Auto Europe to act as a proper broker and advocate for the customer. Instead, I was fobbed off at every stage. Based on this experience, I would not trust Auto Europe’s representations about suppliers or insurance, and I would not use them again.
Cancelled online booking without notification
Booked a car online 30/12/25 for collection in Geneva airport on 07/02/2026. Waited patiently for the confirmation voucher that never arrived. Phoned Auto Europe to query, whilst they found the booking they said it was now invalid / cancelled due to failure to process the card payment. Having not received an email nor phone call to notify me of any issues, had I have not checked in with the company prior to travelling I would have just presumed everything was ok. Their customer service was really appalling, no apology, no recompense, no resolution. Apparently to rebook the price was well over double that of when I first booked plus they had no cars of the same class available. No offer of an reduction in price nor upgrade for the inconvenience they had caused me. Forced to find an alternate car elsewhere costing me £250 extra, not a great start to my holiday!!
Customer Service Department is bad
Customer Service Department does not help much, and the booking system does.not work. I had many issues and they could not help me.
Getting worse and worse
I've been using AutoEurope for many years, and always had good experience, finding superior deals.
I've used to take our their full insurance as well, as most car rental companies these days double their price with insurance.
But now for the first time I had to use the insurance (for a small amount). It was very difficult to find out how to log a claim. When I then did, they keep telling me they need a few business days to handle it. Three weeks later and multiple reminders, still nothing.
I am trying to write to AutoEurope, but I cannot find a way to contact them.
Like all corporates it seems they are focussed on cost cutting rather than customer services. Shame!
I've been working directly with Auto…
I've been working directly with Auto Europe as an affiliate partner for several years, driving quality traffic for car rentals (Israel, Europe). For the past 2 months, commissions on confirmed bookings remain unpaid — exact amounts and booking IDs are visible in my dashboard (all status: approved).
Booking accepted then cancelled by…
Booking accepted then cancelled by company hour later. The rental company did tell me pretty quickly but AutoEurope took a while to inform me. Could get real time confirmation on booking.com as soon as I realised and at the same cost.
Autotrader customer security does nothing
Allowed a seller to pose as a dealer East Moor Cars (insolvent in2020)sold a car online. The marketing video clearly stated No mechanical issues, no dashboard lights
Car was delivered with a blown head gasket! Dealer vanished so no recourse via Trading Standards.
Autotrader customer security haven't responded to the report and failed to provide the police with any information.
Lost my money and left with no transport
Refuse to give me the key for car witch…
Refuse to give me the key for car witch I booked in turin italy after i present my full driving licence romanian , they say i need to have a European drivever licence licence lice a book or something like, lost 300£ try to calling them , no answer , at the next till book very quick with europcar , no problem with driving licence very responsible
Very poor customer customer service
Car was ok, but VERY disappointing customer service.
Having purchased the necessary excess waiver insurance, I have been trying to get a refund on a charge for a wheel hub scratch and the process has been extremely frustrating. SIX MONTHS later still no resolution.
Charged Twice and Refused a Refund
I booked a car through this company, but when I arrived at the rental office to pick it up, they charged me again. They claimed they never received the payment from Auto Europe, so unfortunately I had no choice but to pay a second time. When I contacted them afterward, they refused to refund me.
Avoid using them!
Great after sales service
Have used Auto Europe for years and found them to offer the lowest prices for car rentals. Not only that, when we had trouble with Europcar who charged us for damage to a rented car that we had not caused, a full two months after the rental, and offered no paperwork or justification for the charge, Auto Europe followed up for us with Europcar and obtained the necessary paperowork for us to proceed with a claim from our excess insurers, cover4rentals. 5 stars for follow-up customer service.
Had to cancel our trip due to a family…
Had to cancel our trip due to a family medical emergency. As you can imagine there was a lot of phonecalls to make and it was a really stressful time. I called 1 hour too late apparently therefore wasn't entitled to a full refund. Heartless and unaccommodating, unhelpful and ridiculous that there's not even an email address contact either. Pay more and go with a better company.
Hopeless
Hopeless - Auto Europe advertise a contact number ( +44 123 3225 114 Standard Opening Times: Monday-Sunday: 8 AM - 5 PM GMT) but that number is "not recognised" and they provide no email contact ot chat contact
No support when things go wrong – useless "insurance"
Order voucher code: 851206810
I booked a car through Auto Europe and paid for their "full insurance" cover in advance. When the local provider (Sicily by Car) refused to accept my digital credit card and forced me to buy a second, expensive insurance policy, I contacted Auto Europe for help.
Their customer service acknowledged that I was paying for insurance twice and understood the situation, yet stated there was "nothing they could do." If a broker cannot protect its customers from being shaken down for extra fees by their partners, they provide no value. I essentially paid Auto Europe for insurance that was rendered useless, and they offered zero compensation or support. Completely ridiculous service.
Complete rip off
Went to collect car ( in mexico ) refused to release until we paid aprox £260 for extra required insurance , full package had been paid for !!
Had to pay or no car
Auto europe response , our fault for signing rental agreement and we should have refused to pay , maybe I should have arm wrestled them for the keys .
I hired a vehicle through autoeurope
I hired a vehicle through autoeurope, pick up in Stuttgart airport at 22.30 on a Friday evening.
I prepaid for this hire a few months prior
I have hired cars at Stuttgart many times.
The actual rental company, Flex to go would not rent a car to me a car as my credit card was not in my full name only initials.
My other credit card had my full name but was not embossed, also an issue.
I phoned autoeurope and they were not interested in finding me a car with an alternative company.
Luckily the guy at the Hertz desk took pity on me and foud me a car at a decent rate!
I have since written to auteurope several times and again they are not interested in even issuing me with a refund or any apology.
It is extremely difficult to communicate with them, and they intentionally misunderstand what you are asking of them.
Do not use autoeurope or Flex to go.
You have been warned!
Rented car illegal to drive!
Booked through Carrental8 (part of Autoeurope group). On pick-up of car (in Nov in a snowy Denmark) I was told car did not have winter tyres and that it was illegal to drive a car in ice or snow without them!
So they rented a car to me that could not legally be driven! Seemingly, they saw this as an optional extra (for which you have to book in advance), but no indication of such advance booking requirement was given in the small print.
Besides, I don't think that the car being drivable is an optional extra! Maybe I should have checked whether the steering wheel was included too!
Autoeurope's response to my complaint, was superficial and dismissive.
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Auto Europe, even though I have used them for couple of years. I booked a car through them, but due to unforeseen circumstances I couldn’t collect the car on the original day. I was willing to pick it up the next day, but the rental partner (Drivalia) cancelled the booking.
What shocked me most was that Auto Europe refused to provide a refund—even though I bought the voucher from them, not Drivalia. They completely shifted the responsibility to their partner and hid behind the supplier’s strict “no refund” policy. As a customer, I expected Auto Europe to support me and handle the issue professionally, but that didn’t happen.
This experience has made it clear that Auto Europe does not stand behind its customers. I won’t be booking through them again, and I strongly advise others to be cautious. If anything goes wrong with your booking, don’t expect any real help or accountability from their side.
