My recent albatross tours trip to Italy was everything I expected and more. The TD was fantastic, was a font of knowledge and understood our Aussie humour. The accommodation was great (including a castle), the provided meals reflected the local cuisine, and wine flowed freely. The whole bus (28) got a long well together and also had free time to enjoy individually. We visited tourist spots as well as lesser known small villages to get the real taste of Italy. A great trip!
The content of the tour and the guide were very good. Whilst some of the hotels were great for example Stresa some locations and hotels were not good Eg Genoa.
I have completed a lengthy survey already on this so you should have my feedback.
The trip was very well planned and the guide, Gilberto, was extremely organised and so very helpful with anyone who was having problems or feeling unwell.
There were a couple of meals that were disappointing but on the whole the hotels and restaurants we visited were very pleasant. It was good to have time to ourselves on a regular basis. It helped that the weather was perfect for the whole trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour in Italy “Off the Beaten Track”.
Albatross Tours were professional and the best things they got right:
* Keeping the maximum number on the tour to 28.
* Selecting an excellent Tour Manager
* Selecting a great tour bus company with an excellent bus driver.
Well paced itinerary. Terrific tour leader and drivers. Not sure about a couple of stops eg Davos
Albatross does not disappoint. We did La Grande France and it was all amazing. The only thing that did disappoint was the nights dinner was included it was a set menu with out a choice. We did the Le Grande Italy tour in 2023 and there was a choice from 2 options.
I had been given glowing reports of Albatross but the tour of France 1-16 June 2025 was not up to standard for what the tour cost. Expected some better hotels and certainly better food. Those 2 things have to be excellent and they were not.

Great tour around Ireland. Excellent itinerary and an excellent tour guide Tom who ensured everything rang like clockwork, was extremely helpful and switched onto people’s needs. Great historical knowledge of Ireland. Great group of people.
Best holiday ever!
Tour guide, Deryck, was excellent.
Local guides were excellent.
Itinerary was excellent.
Fellow travellers were compatible.
Dinners al fresco were great.
Hotels at Boulogne and Montpellier were less than great.
Maps distributed at each town were appreciated, especially with a marked track back to the bus!
Audio guides were very good.
...and you might as well take credit for the excellent weather, too!
We did the Irish Connection and the tour was well paced and the stops were ideal. This was our 5th tour and every tour has been splendid
A great trip and very well organised. Tour leader was flexible and informative when minor changes happened.
Our tour leader Richard Ellis was great. Places visited were varied and all good experiences. Accommodation was varied and all good quality.
Awesome tour that was very well planned out and with amazing places visited!!
Loved the two and three night stays. Most places we visited were not swamped with people. Good size group much easier to get to know your fellow travellers. Saw lots of beautiful country side.
Darren Wheatley was terrific - knowledgeable, friendly, capable and organised. Yassin, the bus driver, was the best!
The carefully selected sights and professional guides made this an interesting trip off the beaten track
We did the Spain and Portugal tour which was fantastic! This was our first time with Albatross and we were very impressed with quality of hotels, lots of space on the bus, time for us to explore on our own, great organisation and most importantly our tour guide Darren and Driver Yassin.
We have just finished Italian Grande tour with Albatross Tours.
Excellent itinerary and hotels
Tour guides excellent.
Make special mention of Tour Manager Helen and Driver Fabio.
Both outstanding.
Helen’s organisational skills and people skills were the best.
Fabio as a driver was unparalleled. I could tell as a fellow coach driver in Australia
We did a back to back tour, the first was the alpine adventure tour and the second was new year in an Italian castle.
We were blessed with a very good guide on the first tour, Reinhardt, even though he became quite ill towards the end. The first tour was a bit of a nickel and dime tour as many things we thought should have been included (such as gondola tickets for example) were not. The single biggest disappointment of the first tour was no included Christmas lunch. When we arrived at the hotel in Klosters, the owner made a big deal out of the Christmas lunch they had planned for us, only to later tell us sorry, that was all a mistake, Christmas lunches are only for English Albatross customers, not Australians! So Christmas lunch was restricted to some cake and coffee in the only cafe open on Christmas Day. Very poor. For the second tour, the Brando Castle was just wonderful. However the tour leader was simply hopeless. The included tours on this second leg involved long bus rides to see not much. We could not believe that given we were in the middle of the famous Prosecco Hills region of Italy and surrounded by vineyards, that there were no winery tours offered. So all in all, some pluses and a lot of minuses for us.

The Sardinia/Corsica tour was one of our favourite tours. It was a fabulous itinerary full of variety, we had excellent hotels & meals included. We’re very lucky to have Gilberto as our tour director again& everything ran smoothly. Well done Albatross for putting such a wonderful holiday together.
