DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!

DO NOT BOOK HERE — A DISGRACEFUL EXPERIENCE WITH ALAMO AT ZAGREB AIRPORT ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

⚠️ Long post but important ⚠️

Don’t make the same mistake — it’s worth paying more for a better company.

We booked a car with Alamo at Zagreb Airport, fully paid in advance and under one group member’s name. We arrived on time to pick up the car, within the scheduled hours, only to be told they wouldn’t give it to us because we didn’t have the physical credit card under the driver’s name. The card was available in digital form on the phone, but that wasn’t accepted.

I was also traveling with a valid driver’s license and a physical credit card, and I offered to be added as the driver. However, they said it was impossible to change the name on the booking — something that was never mentioned during the reservation process. In fact, the booking process doesn’t even ask for a driver’s license number, so changing the driver would have been technically possible and entirely reasonable. Still, they outright refused to help, showing no willingness to find a solution or even explain why. They dismissed us quickly and with contempt.

Nowhere does it say that the card must be physical or that the driver’s name cannot be changed. It’s clear this is intentionally set up to trap customers and keep their money, because the conditions are not transparently explained at any stage. And as other reviews also show, this is a common trick they’ve pulled on many people.

The staff member who attended us was useless, rude, and unpleasant, with poor English, zero empathy, and no willingness to help. We asked to cancel the booking right then and there to leave a written record, but he refused — he only handed us a generic email address for complaints and wouldn’t accept any kind of written statement at the counter, which we have the right to submit. We also tried calling customer service, but no one answered.

We weren’t the only ones — we saw other customers facing the same situation, equally angry and confused, clearly caught in the same trap. This proves it’s not an isolated case, but a deliberate strategy by Alamo to mislead customers and then charge without providing the service.

We were left without a car, without alternatives, without a refund, and with disgraceful treatment. An infuriating and unacceptable experience. Alamo is a shady, rigid, and completely disrespectful company.

DO NOT BOOK WITH ALAMO. They do not care about customers, offer no support, and use confusing terms to keep your money.

We expect, at the very least, an immediate refund and a formal response to the complaint we submitted by email. Anything less will only confirm what we already suspect: that they are not just incompetent, but operating in bad faith.

Very customer unfriendly

The branch at the airport closes at 11pm, but it remains staffed so they can charge customers a euro 30 penalty for arriving after 11pm. This is ridiculous. Many flights do not arrive on time to make 11pm. In addition, I was given a car with only 25% fuel, even though the contract said full is full. This was very annoying and is probably done on purpose because most people do not know how to do car math and thus return it with more fuel than they got upon pickup.

Warning !!!

booked as always in my husbands name because he is always the driver! I thought that was a requirement. When we arrived we was going to pay 50 euro to enter Montenegro one day. They did NOT except debitcards. We only have one creditcard that we share! But the creditcard is in MY name and they was going to charged us 150 euro extra because its not my name on the booking!!! 🤬 We called Rentalcars if we could change the name on the booking but it was to late. And make a new booking would cost 700 euro MORE! Then because of serious back problem we was not able to enter Montenegro and they could not give us money back🤬😭 So they stoled 200 euro from us!!
