Review of The AA Breakdown Cover

We broke down at around 9.15am on the…

We broke down at around 9.15am on the B1107 between Thetford Golf course and Highlodge on Saturday 1st June 2024 in our WWII Jeep, there was no signal where we had broken down so luckily we were with friends at the time who drove my husband to the nearest town to get a signal to call the AA he described exactly where we had broken down and that we had no signal they said someone would be with us at 10.50am this time passed we then got another text saying they are delayed will be with us at 11.50am so we told our friends who couldn’t do anything else at the time to continue on to our destination as they were missing out on the day we had planned, we waited then got another text saying 12.30pm then another 1.05pm then another 1.30pm this time we had a registration plate to look out for so we thought they have got to turn up this time? Some people stopped to ask if we were okay as they had been past a few times and we were still there. 1.30pm came and went and no one showed, by now our phones were starting to go flat and we still had no signal so couldn’t call out receive calls or anything, by 2.30pm we still hadn’t been rescued had no messages are were thinking we will never get rescued? Then a lovely young man pulled up with his small child in the back, he had seen us earlier and we were still there so he was concerned, he was our hero, he drove one of us to the nearest town so we could call the AA again, who said someone had been out but couldn’t find us, they never drove past us as were looking out for the vehicle reg we had been given and for a bright yellow van with AA in the side, we saw nothing, we had no text saying we can’t find you and you couldn’t reply to their texts so we were stranded. But when we recalled them and explained we have been waiting 6 hours so far we have no signal our phones are going flat and we need recovery asap. She said someone would be out as a priority at 4.20pm we had to wait a further 1 hours 20mins, but the very kind man who had stopped drove me back to our breakdown and waited with us until we were recovered and in that time he kept his car running so we could charge our phones. Although it got to 4.15pm and we still thought no one was coming to rescue us, so we had asked the kind hero to drive my husband back home which was an hour away to get his truck to tow us home which he agreed to do, but in the meantime the recovery turned up although initially he drove past us and I had to wave him to come back! Which luckily he did and because we had no signal he was waiting at the golf club but luckily he used his common sense and drove up the road to see if we were there, our recovery man was a very nice and friendly man who we had no problem with whatsoever we are very appreciative of him for using his common sense to continue to look for us as he knew we had no signal, we eventually got home at 6pm we waited from 9.30am to 4.20pm. We think your service is appalling and a wait of 7 hours unacceptable. I hope no one else has to wait this long just grateful it wasn’t to cold or raining. In future we will be renewing with a different recovery firm

Reply from The AA Breakdown Cover

Hi Sarah, we'll always help as quickly as we can but our ETAs can change, as we prioritise Members in dangerous locations. We'll always do our best to keep in touch too but the lack of signal would've affected this.

We're sorry about the delay and happy you got back safely.
