I was very disappointed by their lack of empathy

I was very disappointed by the lack of empathy shown by both the staff and owners of Your Best Car
My Lexus car was stolen in March in Sissinghurst and as I was told it was unlikely to be recovered and, as I have a disabled wife and a vehicle is essential, I went to Your Best Car the next day, as I had seen they had an identical car to mine, the same year and mileage.
I explained my predicament to them and, although they don’t allow test drives, I agreed to buy the car.
Two days later I was informed by the police that they had recovered the car in London. I informed Your Best Car immediately as I had no idea what condition the car was in as I clearly didn’t want to end up with two cars.
I picked up the car from the London Police pound a couple of days later and it was fine. I informed Your Best Car that I did not want to complete the purchase but they refused to refund my £1,000 deposit, despite the fact that they only took it off the market for five days. I even offered to pay for any out of pocket costs like cleaning.
They failed to tell me at the time of the sale that I could have reserved the car for up to seven days and the deposit would have been repayable as is stated in their Terms and Conditions. It would have been helpful if they had told me about this at the time, in view of my circumstances.
During the whole five days I constantly kept Your Best Car informed of the situation.
I wrote a letter setting out the full circumstances of my case but haven’t received the courtesy of a reply
I have always believed in giving business to local companies but, needless to say, this whole episode has left a lasting bad taste and has done nothing to foster customer relations.
------------------------------------------------------------
Following Your Best Car’s response, I would not normally continue with this correspondence but your response to my review is riddled with errors and inconsistencies. It would add credibility to your response if you checked your facts:

* You say “You would need to wait few weeks to see what the outcome was.” Untrue. The car was stolen on Friday; on Saturday I saw the car; on Sunday the police found it and informed me; on Monday morning I informed Jamie of this fact and would need to see if my car was drivable but might have to cancel the purchase as I obviously didn’t want two cars; on Wednesday I recovered my car and informed Jamie that I would not proceed with the sale. I followed this with written confirmation. Five days elapsed over the whole episode and during this time I called Jamie several times to keep him up to date
* Of course no one forced me to buy the car and I read and understood your conditions of business but I was appealing to your sense of fair play in requesting a refund of the deposit as I explained to Jamie that I needed a quick replacement for my car as my wife is disabled and so had a need for a car. Perhaps it was a bit impetuous seeking a car immediatley, but having one’s car stolen from off your drive is an unnerving experience
* You say “You then never showed for your collection. Untrue. I agreed on the Saturday to collect the car on the following Friday, but by Wednesday I cancelled the purchase so to say I did not show up is clearly wrong
* You say “Only after chasing you did you disclose that the Police had found your car”. Untrue, I informed Jamie on Wednesday afternoon as soon as I could.
* You say “Colin made us wait 9 days, chasing daily for an answer, only then to cancel the deal”. Again, untrue. I kept you informed on a daily basis as described above and acted in good faith at all times
* I paid the deposit in your office on the Saturday I saw the car, and not when I got home. You would not allow me to pay using my credit card, it had to be a bank transfer,
* You say that the £1,000 was to defray costs of paperwork (a one page invoice), cleaning the car and having it off the forecourt for 5 days. I hardly think that this would add up to £1,000 and, in any case I made a written offer to you to refund out of pocket costs.
* In view of my circumstance it would have been helpful if Jamie had informed me that I could have "Reserved" the car for up to 7 days and then I would have got my deposit back on cancellation. I’m not sure how I could have found this was available before seeing the car as it does not appear on your website, you can only find them by doing a Google search.
* I concede that you are sticking strictly to your terms and conditions but have left me disappointed and I don’t believe your behaviour is one that encourages a good working relationship with potential customers, hence my reference to a lack of empathy.

As always, we want to add a bit of balance to your review Colin, so our future customers understand exactly what occurred.

First and foremost, I will give a brief overview of the events that led up to this.

You viewed our car, read your paperwork, your terms and conditions and signed them. You then arranged a collection day.
You then went home and transferred your £1,000. No one forced you to do any of this, you read and understood exactly what the terms of the sale were.
We fueled your car, valeted it, and did various other bits as agreed before your collection.
We had it parked inside ready for your collection as promised.
You then never showed for your collection.

Only after chasing you did you disclose that the Police had found your car, abandoned in London, and you would need to wait a few weeks to see what the outcome was. We advised that it was your decision to make either way, however Jamie (the Sales Executive you dealt with) did advise against it as you can never be sure what they have done to the car. Added trackers, taken parts, caused any hidden damage etc. It is worth noting to the people reading this review Jamie used to be a Police officer dealing with these exact crimes. It was not a scare tactic, just genuine advice from the one man who could advise you best on your specific situation. We explained to Colin (again) that we have a 7 day turn around time from deposit to collection and would need to know as soon as possible.

To explain our 7-day, turn around for the viewers at home:

We are a small business with limited funds.
We simply cannot remove a £20,000 car from sale and wait a few weeks for an update. We need to get the funds back in to buy another car. That’s not greed or being pushy, it’s the life of a small business owner.

As “Car Dealers” we often get looked down on, yet we are just another business trying to get by and navigate these hard times. Whether that was to be a local bakery, a stationary store, or a butcher. If you commit to a large purchase they will all take a part payment. No small business can afford to take large orders and then refund them if it does not go ahead. We all have staff to pay, and they have families to look after. They all need paying for the jobs to do, to get your “order” ready. It is the same with us, raising paperwork, valeting, fuel, fresh HPIs. Materials, polishing pads, polish, touch in pens. It all takes peoples time and costs money. It’s not as simple as a “£50 payment to cover our out-of-pocket costs like cleaning”.

At YBC we take a Part Payment to remove the car from sale and stop anyone else from buying it. A part payment that is non-refundable gives us confidence that the deal will move forward and ultimately allows us to commit to another car with some reassurance that funds will be in within those 7 days. Again, this is not something you have to agree to until you have viewed the car, or something you must agree to at all! This is not us being mean, harsh or unsympathetic. We just can’t operate with refundable “deposits” like bigger business can.

We have very clear terms to prevent this all from happening. We REALLY do not want to be in this position with an upset customer, no one does. You don’t have to agree our terms and buy our car, but if you wish to buy one of our cars, we have terms and conditions like any business. Colin made us wait 9 days, chasing daily for an answer, only then to cancel the deal. Colin then bad mouthed us to local Facebook groups, our local garage, our local town and then left multiple bad reviews, all because he didn’t get his own way. Do you really think this is fair? It doesn’t seem fair to me personally to attack a local business because they stuck to their terms.

In summary, we are all sad to be in this position. Fighting bad reviews and dealing with upset customers is the furthest thing from fun and the worst bit about our job. However, hopefully the above adds some understanding to the situation.

Great team

Andrew and the team were quick to get in touch and were very knowledgeable. I got maybe even a little more than expected even though they noted a few minor issues with the car which I had completely somehow missed. It was a no fuss no stress car sale and I would definitely use them again if the need ever arose.

We booked to view a car and travelled…

We booked to view a car and travelled an hour to see it . When we arrived the vehicle had a scratch to the passenger side wing mirror which would need replacing also scratches on the bumper and also scratches on the front. Deep scratches, scratches,

You did not advertise this in your video and did not make any comment regarding the work that would need doing this is not normal wear and tear .!!! You wasted our time as it took us an hour to get to you .

You need to advertise your cars correctly !!!! I have photos to prove this

We are not surprised to get your feedback Claire after your numerous threats to do so. However, we are surprised as to how incredibly angry and spiteful someone can get when things don’t go their way.

As always we like to reply and add some balance to anyone who happens to read your review. In summary, Claire Drew’s expectations were not met with our 2 owner, 50,000 mile, 6 Year old, used Mercedes A-Class.

The feedback I’ve had here, your son seemed delighted, but short of lots of money off, you were extremely cross; Which seems a great shame given that it was a festive and relaxed Easter Saturday that you visited, and your Son was clearly excited for his drive home.

I certainly acknowledge the fact that three scratches reside in the plastics of this Mercedes. Funnily enough, you will find most pre owned vehicles do have some marks. All have been neatly touched up. All are shown clearly in the photographs and the video - but in your defence; maybe it was your son that looked at these and not you?

We do advertise our cars very accurately Claire. In fact, we have not only managed to make a living doing this over the 13 years in business, but accumulate well over 1,000 five star reviews in that time. Must be luck.

In brief summary: Expectations were clearly mismanaged somewhere between Essex and Kent, but aside from speaking with you directly (after your Son) to urge you to check our photographs and video before travel; It’s quite tough to see how my experienced Sales Team could have changed this distasteful outcome and your nasty reviews.

‘Sometimes the best deals that you do are the ones you don’t do’ - I think that possibly applies in this situation.

Wishing you well with your onward search - with a strong recommendation of doing this closer to Essex to avoid the journey, and possibly with you personally checking the marketing (as well as your Son) to avoid disappointment.

Regards

Ashley.

Went back to Your Best Car to trade-in…

Went back to Your Best Car to trade-in my car, which I bought from them, for a newer version. Initial contact via email was quick and efficient and booking an appointment for a viewing and test drive was so easy. Jamie showed me the car and we went out for a test drive. Agreed a price and good price given for my trade-in.
Paperwork was completed efficiently. Had a follow up call a few days later.
Service was excellent and when the time comes for a newer car this will be the first, and probably only, stop…
Highly recommended.

I see this BMW 3 series about a month before I…

I see this car about a month before I finally decided to buy it, it seemed to good to be true what with the mileage, condition etc. I hoped it would be there after my op and to my surprise IT WAS.
I managed to get my own finance and then booked an appointment and subsequent test drive. Jack gave me a call back and booked me in, as I pulled up and walked to the showroom I see the car and I knew lol. I’m having that I thought to myself, test drive and look around done. The wife had a huge smile which completely made my mind up!
Jack was very helpful, open and honest ( I asked if he could move on the price and he politely smiled and declined, I knew it was a good and far price to be honest. Still don’t ask don’t get lol).
I’m chuffed to bits with car ! It’s stunning and I would thoroughly recommend Your Best Car to buy a car from, impressive site and even more impressive people to deal with.
Thank you YBC and thank you Jack…

Go elsewhere

AVOID this dealership in medmenham
Unless you want to lose your hard earned cash
Very long story short, I bought a car from your best car last year that started showing multiple electrical problems within the first week, they would only agree to pay for the repairs if I used their recommended garage (full circle) the car had been to them 3 times and they failed to repair , the fourth attempt was to have the car stripped down to find the faults , when the car arrived they refused to do anything as “ the booking “ was never confirmed , when I spoke to them they said they had never done this sort of repair before on a car like mine even though their website states they can repair any electrical fault as they have experienced qualified staff !
This dragged on for months so I decided not to let an inexperienced garage strip my car apart and had to go elsewhere to resolves all the issues with it
I also had a blowout within a few weeks of driving the car because I later found out they sold it to me with 2 bald front tyres that were close to the legal limit , lucky I wasn’t on a motorway at the time !
After reading their reviews this is not the first time they have done this
AVOID this dealership !

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We would like to give some balance for those reading and give our side of the story. We’re sorry to hear about our clients concerns and appreciate the opportunity to provide some additional context for clarity.

Following the purchase, we did not receive any communication regarding ongoing issues with the vehicle between June 2025 and October 2025. During this period, the car covered over 4,500 miles, which suggests it was in regular use without reported fault.
From October onwards, we have made consistent efforts to support you and address concerns raised. This includes replacing the vehicle’s battery under warranty after a low voltage warning message appeared. We also covered the cost of a DPF replacement—despite this typically being considered a wear-and-tear item and falling outside of the 6-month warranty period we provide. At that stage, the vehicle had covered over 8,000 miles since purchase.

It is also important to note that when the DPF work was carried out in January 2026, the electrical issue currently being referenced was not present or identified. The vehicle was performing correctly.
In February, we arranged three separate bookings to further inspect the vehicle. Two of these appointments were cancelled by the client, and one was unfortunately impacted by a communication issue on our side, for which we apologise.

Cars are mechanical, they can and do go wrong however on the balance of evidence, I am unable to see how we could have done much more. I think all we are guilty of is failing to confirm a booking.

Purchase of a VW Arteon on PCP

I recently purchased my car on a PCP finance agreement through Your Best Car and the whole experience has been excellent from start to finish. The team were transparent throughout, taking the time to explain the process clearly and ensuring I understood all my options before committing.

The application was straightforward and handled efficiently. On collection day, everything was prepared in advance, the car was exactly as described, and the handover process was smooth and professional.

I’m really pleased with both the vehicle and the service I received. If you’re considering buying a car on PCP finance, I’d definitely recommend this dealership for their friendly approach, clear communication, and honest advice.
