Poor CS and device reliability
After five years, the device stopped working. I called CS, who guided me through different troubleshooting procedures to conclude the device had a hardware issue, and they could not do anything about the device and the data that was stuck inside. I was offered a 10% discount on any future purchase. (who wants to buy another product from a company that does not resolve your issue and lose your data forever?) - stay away from this kind of company and device. CS is not about answering the phone and reading a script but solving the issue or compensating the customer up to the level of prejudice, especially when you pride yourself on being a safe data storage and user-friendly company.
free offfer that's just a lie
promised free flash drive and then charged for it. customer support is a $2/day employee who knows nothing. Waste of time. Go elsewhere.
This is a lousy company with terrible…
This is a lousy company with terrible after sales service. I bought two of their 125 gbs USBs. They didn’t fit in any of my devices.
I got onto Thomas and Scott of Western Digital. They asked me to send photos etc. But refused my offer to send them the defective USBs. There have been many similar complaints about the USBs being defective.
Now they tell me the USBs are fake!
The mind boggles. Beware of this Company.
One of the most terrible service
One of the most terrible service! never buy anything from them.
I bought the most expensive external hard drive i never spend money for and just over one year old is not worked. I went to Best buy to complain about this they testes and said I need to call WD service.
I called and went through all than finally they told me i need to paid for get my file out because this hard driver over guarantee :(
Complete trash company
Complete trash company! I spent $200 on an external hard drive (worked about 50% of the time) and then all of the sudden, they don't support it and tell me I have to buy a NEW one that works with their system! Dumb me tries the new one---cord doesn't fit, can't get pictures off of last hard drive, and NO ONE responds, ever! I have two $200 paper weights that contain pictures of my life that I can't get out! I HATE Western Digital!
Junk
Had it for a while but has never really delivered. Often doesn’t link up. Wants log ins I don’t have. Isn’t recognised on my windows lap top. Terrible app. Doesn’t often display thumbnails. Cumbersome to download multiple files, if it works at all. I wanted to store stuff privately and not use a cloud like Amazon. Rubbish though. A shame as it promised so much.
I bought 2x new 10TB NAS HDD
I bought 2x new 10TB NAS HDD. Tried installing in a Synology NAS enclosure. Something went wrong - was it Synology or WD or User fault?? Sent back under warranty to WD in Australia with crossed fingers. Just received 2x NEW HDD replacements.
Friggin' amazing. Blown away by how fast and replacement policy. This is how HiTech companies should treat their customers :) Ill buy more in future knowing even though I'm not a fully qualified techno, I can get backup from these guys.
I LOST ALL OF MY DATA
I purchased Western Digital 8 TB My Cloud Home external drive about three years ago. It worked FAIRLY DECENT until about 3 months ago. It has lost connection and can no longer connect. It simply states it's offline. I've tried every solution possible and still no luck. I purchased this product because I thought it would be reliable and I could trust that whatever I needed to store would always be available to me. What is the point of having an external hard drive with a cloud feature if you cannot access the cloud unless the device is logged in? And the customer service is absolutely nonexistent. They want me to collect and send them logs of the device but in order to do that you have to log in. I disregarded many signs while having the device and it was still functioning. It took forever to simply log in, it took forever to download what I needed from the device, difficulty logging in and having to restart computer multiple times to get the device to finally log in, and on and on and on. I will absolutely never purchase a product from your company again. I lost so many personal and professional things and there is absolutely nothing that can be done because there is not a single human being that works for Western Digital that is capable of figuring out why their devices are worth nothing more than a 2.5-pound paper weight. There are a few choice words I have for your company, but I will display more professionalism than what I have received. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY.
New Western Digital Red drives may have a weak SATA socket
It was disappointing for a big fan of WD Black drives for enterprise applications and WD Red for NAS applications to discover a redesigned WD Red with a unpardonably flimsy SATA data connector. The thin strip of plastic that supports the seven gold plated SATA contacts on the drive simply broke off inside the SATA cable connector. This was on a *brand new* 10 TB WD Red drive (Model WD101EFBXSP purchased from Amazon which, incidentally, refused to publish this review).
Unfortunately the connector broke just a few hours before the client needed the 4x10TB FreeNAS server I was building. I had no choice but to scalp a SATA cable's connector and solder the cable pins directly to the exposed pins on the drive and then support this whole kludge by casting a fiberglass & epoxy strain relief to keep the data cable from snapping off. It's not pretty or easy, but it works -- until someone unaware of the kludge tries to maintain the machine...
Clearly, Western Digital has a good argument that my emergency repair voids any warranty. In fact, Western Digital also could argue I'd been hamfisted when installing the SATA cable.
What bugs me is that I've been building up at least one multi-drive NAS or Windows system per week for years. Nothing like this ever happened before -- AND-- it falls on the heels of Western Digital adopting the new SNIA SFF-8301 physical standards for 3.5" hard drives.
You may have noticed that 3.5" to 5.25" drive mounting adapters don't fit the current Western Digital Red 3.5" drives (or most of the new 3.5" rotating drives by other vendors) -- that's a consequence of the new SNIA standard that replaces the three tapped mounting holes (0", 1.75" & 3.0") on each side of the drive with only two 6-32 tapped mounting holes spaced four inches apart.
I can't help but wonder if a byproduct of this mechanical redesign is also a less robust plastic component that integrates the SATA & power connectors. Sadly, at the moment (4/2022) it seems prudent to avoid the Western Digital Red 3.5" drives regardless of the deservedly fine reputation of earlier designs.
Very poor support from WD
They do not honor their storage products warranty and make it very frustrating to initiate a warranty claim, with a support website that leads you down a rabbit hole of error messages and misleading links that lead back to the top page. My failed products serial number was not in their database and they turned my warranty claim into a website support incident, leaving me to start the process all over again. Their support site is designed to make you give up out of frustration. They like to reply to complaints with the same bot generated response.
As a business owner I cannot comprehend…
As a business owner I cannot comprehend how a backup product can be so unreliable. We've bought one after the other of WD thinking it was our mistakes only to realize these are just garbage products. Don't bother spending money on these, or you'll be writing a review warning others.
USELESS Customer Service
Customer service is calling from a number that is identified as SPAM by the nations WIRELESS CARRIERS. The calls never ring and just go to voicemail. WD has been told but they just don't care. It is time they go out of business!!! Most stupid and backward customer service.
Worst customer support in the business
Worst customer support in the business, don't buy WD
Terrible Customer Service
Terrible Customer Service. Faulty product. Paid £330 for a 2Tb drive that does not work
Terrible customer service
This is a company with terrible, terrible customer service. I purchased a My Cloud Home with a corrupted installation file just when the entire Western Digital server farm went down for about 12 hours, but no one emailed their customers. I was really stumped while troubleshooting installation and called support. HUGE mistake. Their call center techs have very limited English, and the first agent simply spouted a boiler plate "we will work on your problem", over and over (really about 5 times), every time I asked a question. Finally, I hung up, called again, and asked for a supervisor. That person had better English but was the rudest, most scornful person I have ever encountered in customer "service". Finally, after about 10 minutes of back and forth he admitted that the problem was WD servers "all over the world". I was so annoyed he had wasted my time rather than admitting that immediately, I just hung up. Forget these people. I will NEVER buy another WD product.
I can hardly believe that my Terrible…
I can hardly believe that my Terrible experience really happened. I have been trying to get 3 WD passports to work, each time replacing the previous one that tech support told me was corrupt. Yesterday after nudging the Technical Support person who had been helping me to respond to me I got a boilerplate response, IDENTICAL -WORD FOR WORD- to the previous response: I was told that my passport is corrupt and I cannot be helped with it. My conclusion is that the Technical Support people do not know how to use the new software. I was their Guinea pig for them to figure out how to use that software, and they never succeeded.
Young adult with autism loses all data on WD hard drive that was less than 3 months old.
We bought our son a WD external Hard Drive and it has crached in less than 3 months, with all data lost, unless we pay another service $1,600 to recoever it. My son is 25 and has autism. As he is not able to socialize with others, his computer is his life. He has a YouTube channel and does a tremdous amount of research on things like steam trains and music. Losing over 2 TB of his work/data has been beyond upsetting. We/he cannot afford to pay the data recovery fee, as we just bought him a new computer. We purchased the WD Hard Drvie so that he could feel that his data was safe. We were going to buy a secondary (backup) hard drive so that he could be sure his data was secure but had not got to this yet. I have been told by IT professionals that it is almost unheard of for a drive to just quit in under 3 months. Never again will I purchase anything from WD.
Terrible customer service
Just going to add to the many prior comments about Wester Digital's (WD) terrible customer service. I've never seen such terrible service. No joke, it took them over a month for them to respond to my initial inquiry (inquired on 11/29/2021 about an item I was purchasing for Christmas and they finally did me the favor of responding today 12/31/2021). And of course their templated response was not at all helpful in resolving my initial complaint.
Buy with a Credit Card to make sure you get a refund
Terrible experience. The HDD I purchased was faulty. I asked for a replacement. 2 months later, no replacement received. Asked for a refund. 2 months later, no refund received. Launched a dispute through the credit card I used for the purchase and got a refund a couple of months later. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!
Screwing costumers under the name of security new age of marketing …
Since I joined WD My Cloud and I bought the device I have lost several times all of my data and I received the worst customer service ever and I really go online and post everywhere regarding my experience which I do have all the documents and everything so basically when a person pays $300 for WD cloudy X to and after four years or two years is not being given used and you offering 20% is a joke please except if it’s a marketing thing at least you can find a better way do you say screw your clients instead
With regret that I even considered Your company a good one
And wish to loose the market to your other competitors who offering amazing service so basically I don’t see a difference between a thief and legal pirate which is you #stayashamed
