About Vets Now
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A midnight panicked dash to the…
A midnight panicked dash to the practice was eased by the soothing care of the staff and it was obvious Chester Cat was in good hands. He had a very nasty abscess from a cat bite which they cleaned, drained and treated expertly with no added stress for Chester. So grateful to Charlotte the vet and the lady nurse whose name I didn't get.

Right from phoning up and speaking to a very professional young man that gave me all the information I needed to get to Vet's now in Clay Cross. I was impressed with the whole visit. The vet herself was kind and very friendly as well as knowing exactly what to do to help my dog. And all the other colleagues couldn't do enough to help us. Excellent service. My dog is much better now. Regards.

Very expensive but good care
I had to visit twice in the same weekend. Whilst I appreciate that an out of hours fee will be applied and I have no problem with that, I do feel that a £299 consultation fee is incredibly expensive especially as meds are added on top.
That being said, the staff at the reception were lovely and the vets, the second one in particular, were great. I was very anxious and was not able to take in much the first time but the second vet was kind, helpful and really understanding of the situation. She took the time to explain the situation, what needed doing and what steps to take in the future.

I'm not giving this a one star because they dealt with issue well and the vet and the rest of the staff were nice. I also accept the eye-watering consultation fee as it is par for the course with emergency vets - and we were advised of it on the phone... BUT they administered an injection (a pretty standard one I would think) and prescribed a medicine, without even mentioning the cost... Turned out it was an additional... wait for it.... £230! It should absolutely be policy to outline these sort of sums before hitting you with a bill.

Our puppy was very poorly with Parvovirus and had to be admitted to intensive care.
The staff here were amazing, so caring and gave us regular updates, even emailed some photos over for the kids.
I was very confident that our pup was receiving the best care and can't thank them enough for everything they did. They saved his life.

Directed to my vets out of hours…
Directed to my vets out of hours service on a Sunday which is Vets Now. Had a 90 minute return journey. Horrified on arrival to discover they charge £298 just for a consultation. But I thought thank goodness I have pet insurance. Vets Now insist you pay up front, then for a further £25 fee they ‘help you expedite’ your insurance claim by sending a form of their own to your insurer. However, they took 15 days to send the form! How is this expedited? As a previous commenter mentioned, they have you over a barrel from the moment you contact them and play on your loyalty to your dog. As a pensioner surviving on a state pension, the bill of £512 was very hard to swallow. Constantly chasing up my insurance claim added to the enormous distress of the situation. I don’t know how Vets Now sleep at night, ripping people off in this way. Whilst I spent an hour in their waiting room whilst a blood test was being carried out on my dog, 4 other dog/cat owners arrived, each were handed bills of £500-650!!! That’s almost £3,000 they made in an hour with my bill too. I understand it must cost more to run an out of hours service but Vets Now are literally writing their own cheques for obscene amounts! To top this off, they texted me a request to review them on Google. Clicking the link resulted in an error screen saying ‘you do not have access to this page’. Blocking reviews is one way of ensuring no negative comments can be left.

I took my seriously ill dog to this…
I took my seriously ill dog to this vets yesterday, she was losing a lot of blood due to an ulcer and it really was the most traumatic experience. From arriving, with reception staff to the vet and nurses we saw, each one was absolutely fantastic. They were so thorough with my dog, even though they were extremely busy, the system they had in place to triage emergencies was fantastic. The lady on reception-nothing was to much trouble. I have visited vets a lot due to ongoing problems with my girl and the information we were given and the care and treatment she received was 5*. I did fear I wouldn’t be coming home with her, 24 hours later she’s visited her own vets who are happy with the care and treatment she received and she will continue on it until she is better, already she’s starting to recover. We did find the service very pricey but for saving her, you can’t put a price on that. Thankyou to all the team at chesterfield. Amazing out of hours service

Amazing Staff, Expensive but Premium Care
The staff were amazing looking after our boy after a late afternoon surgery that meant he needed an over night stay. It’s very expensive but they do offer premium care making sure everything is covered to prevent further complications and illness. All of the ladies we saw were very friendly and reassuring.
