Almost the single person at single's evening
Dozens of events advertised around the country. Provided three or more people book on - or two might be enough, at £13.99/head, the event is go, and they swing into action to organise it... by booking a table for you at the designated bar/restaurant. Nothing else. Nobody turns up to curate the event.
When I arrived, there was one other punter there. A third person, we know from the friendly waiter, had been and, finding nobody there at all, gone. On a previous Unified Dating event scheduled at the same venue, only one person had booked, so they cancelled the event, presumably thinking that inviting someone out to meet themself might be taking things a bit far. I only made my booking 35 minutes before the start time of the event, so perhaps it wouldn't have been cancelled even with only two (straight) women turning up - or would have been cancelled so late they would already be nearly there.
In a way it's a fabulous business model, and must be very profitable if they can get the turnover. They do stress they can't guarantee how many people will be there; but I think people will generally take that to mean there might be a poor turnout of ten or fewer people, rather than three.
It's a shame because if they got the numbers, it's an agreeable format. But the sheer volume of events they're advertising, and similar experiences the fe reviews you can find online, suggest they're settling for this as an acceptable sort of service. They emphasise no refunds, can't guarantee numbers or gender mix... but unless the whole thing is run by ChatGPT it's obvious that people aren't going to get their money's worth from a three-person event. Either just a money-making thing with no regard to value, or someone who had sincere intentions of doing something really good who won't accept it isn't working.

Our bookings team was happy to speak with you recently over the phone to understand your experience.
Our events are £12.26 (£13.99 is the price including the booking fee). We organise regular events in a number of locations. We are happy to say we have recently increased the numbers of locations that we operate in.
We always contact attendees prior to events if the numbers are likely to be low or a gender imbalance. We get in touch to let the attendee know we think the event should be rescheduled Sometimes some people are still happy for an event to go ahead even if not many are booked on. We will typically run our events with 4 to 20 booked on attendees (we state on the Order Notification Email that our events are small to medium generally in size although some may be larger). It is the attendees only and venue staff and this is stated on the Order Notification Email following ticket purchase. This email also states that attendees should arrive for the start time. It is out of our control if attendees are late or do not turn up. If attendees are late the Order Notification Email states to email us so we can call the booked on attendees that have not arrived so we can check if they are on their way.
At the event that you attended we are happy that you did meet the other attendee, and it is unfortunate that one attendee did not wait. This is why we ask everyone to arrive for the start time.
We have many events with good numbers booked on and our numbers are improving across our events. We are also doing our utmost to ensure that we build on our operational capacity so that we can consistently deliver a good event experience. Each event is different, sometimes there are more people booked and sometimes less. Sometimes some people turn up and sometimes they don't. Hopefully as our numbers increase there will be less situations like these.
