Since the acquisition by Microsoft and…

Since the acquisition by Microsoft and the attempt to force subscriptions by tacitly removing credit options without a subscription, Microsoft is killing the golden goose that is Skype. Everything Microsoft touches turns to garbage. I’ve switched to the Viber app as a replacement.

Scammy Skype

Hilarious Skype for no reason blocked my account ages ago but kept sneaking its way into my machine until I spent ages deleting hundreds of registry files as I discovered that was the reason my machine was slow as molasses.

From a 20-year-long Skype customer

After almost 20 years of using Skype, my account was recently permanently locked quoting "Abuse of our Platform and Services". I always log into my account by receiving a sign in code to my email, for security reasons. This time, the Microsoft system was glitching, so it wouldn't send me the code. After 3 attempts, I decided to wait until next day only to find out I'm never accessing my Skype contacts ever again. Forget the Skype credit that I was diligently paying for for years. Skype was my lifeline to my family and friends overseas, but the silver lining is that after looking for alternatives, I now realized that Skype was gouging me for years. Good riddance. If I could stop using all Microsoft products, I would. This is what happens when good ideas/services get bought up by big humanless corporations.

Do not trust Skype Credit, mine has been misplaced

I purchased credit to make calls while abroad in January 2024 . The credit became inactive but I was told I can reactivate the credit and I followed the steps given to me.
The credit was not reactivated(although my wife's was under the same purchase scheme ) . Took ages to find someone to chat with on Skype only to be told that because they were purchased in Japan and became inactive they are now gone . No excuse or apology for my credit being taken even though I was offered reactivation . Even worse, no option to purchase credit unless ui purchase a subscription....can't believe it.

It’s truly unbelievable how an app that…

It’s truly unbelievable how an app that was once the pioneer of international communication has been abandoned by Microsoft. Skype, once synonymous with global connectivity, has now become a shadow of its former self, making it nearly impossible to use as effortlessly as it once was.

What used to be the go-to platform for international calls, video chats, and messaging has been left to wither, devoid of innovation and attention to its loyal users. A service that defined an era, bringing millions of people closer across the globe, has been sacrificed on the altar of corporate neglect.

Microsoft's abandonment of Skype is not only disappointing but profoundly unfair to those who made it great through years of trust and use. It’s like watching a historical monument crumble from neglect, a technological milestone undeservedly cast aside.

It’s hard not to feel betrayed by a corporate decision that turned its back on the app’s legacy and its users. Skype deserved so much better than to be reduced to a forgotten relic of the past.

The Death of Skype

Microsoft, if you want to kill a product, just deactivate it instead of trying to make a money-grab scheme that impact users on a global scale.
Skype has been my only international call product for the last 20 years or so, now it is time to say good bye.
Subscription for a credit that I won't be using, so wasting money every month? No, thank you.
Surely this was an idea from a corporate idiot that only thinks about profits.

Professional thieves

Well,
Before we can buy credits and use them only when we NEED. My old 14$ credits have been stolen by the billionaire company and they're no way to recover them.
No commercial move, no act, no compensation, only the usuals flat hypocritical business words.
I have hopefully found two applications in remplacement of this scammy one.
Bye bye forever Skype. THIEVES

They changed their Skype credit feature…

They changed their Skype credit feature so now you have to pay a subscription to call each country, ridiculous, unscrupulous and money-hungry business practise, rendering this product useless! Do I need to get 3 monthly subscriptions for each country now?

Will be leaving Skype, finding an alternative and also doing the same with any Microsoft product including chatgbt (which I pay premium for)

Can't buy credit anymore

Skype disabled the feature to buy credit so that they can force the users to buy their subscriptions which are much more expensive and not flexible at all.

What happened?

I've been using Skype since the time it was the go-to app for online communication. While most people moved on, it's still commonly used for support communication. On top of that, some people remained loyal to it, I guess.

I have no problems with the desktop app (Windows), it works pretty well. GIF loading is often painfully slow, but it's not the end of the world. On the other hand, the Android app is so unpredictable that I often wonder how someone considers it a finished product. All messages in the chat window sometimes disappear out of the blue, it becomes impossible to scroll down to the latest messages, the conversation is updated on the desktop but not on the phone, etc.

While it's still usable, the mobile version just isn't reliable. I'd love to see that change in the future.

'Stay connected' is a joke

'Stay connected' is a joke. I had set up an automatic renewal for low balance. But this time it didn't work. I was 30 minutes oh hold waiting for my bank then another 20 minutes setting up an international transfer only for Skype to cut out at the final stage. Have to waste another hour of my life setting it all up again. I then bought more credit and it's not showing up on my balance. Skype suck so badly.

So confusing and misleading

So confusing and misleading.
- my credit became ‘inactive’ after not using it for 6 months. But it just shows 0 and shows no easy option to reactivate it. It therefore manipulates you to buy more credit you don’t need.
- trying to find any clear account history is impossible as for some reason it shows 1 month at a time only and no summary.
- your account seems linked to a Microsoft account that needs to be logged into separately but that doesn’t easily coordinate. Hours of fun working out where the hell anything is.
- utterly unintuitive interface and confusing account management which I suspect is just done on purpose to maximise account purchases

Pathetic customer service. Product used to be good.

Phone credit ran out during a call. I tried to buy more credit and they switched me to a live:.. account. All my contacts are on my old account and there is no way to transfer them. I tried to get the credit transferred to my original account without success. I had two sessions each lasting several hours with customer service to no avail. They are pathetic dim-wits who are incapable of solving problems. All transactions involve them sending a code to your email address. The codes either do not come at all or take about 10 minutes to come. Imagine how frustrating this is if you are trying to communicate with customer 'service'. I use the term service loosely.
