Been with them for almost 4 years. Today we receive a letter out of the blue that they have transferred our account to another company without any notice, any agreement or anything remotely in the contract that indicates that can happen. And then when you call them you can go back to RSPCA insurance. shifty, ILLEGAL and something defenitely not right.

Hi Maria, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, and we're sorry to hear about the frustration this has caused.

To clarify, your policy wasn't transferred to an unrelated company. RSPCA Pet Insurance changed underwriting partners from Hollard/PetSure to Pacific International Insurance on 1 April 2026, as part of a planned partnership. If your policy started before that date, it stayed with Hollard/PetSure, and communications about that policy remained Hollard's responsibility as the APRA-registered insurer. This meant the RSPCA weren't able to contact those customers directly ourselves.

We don't endorse how this communication landed with customers, and we're genuinely sorry it felt unclear and unexpected.

If you'd like to talk through your concerns, have more questions or would like to hear options about returning to an RSPCA supporting policy, please call us on 1300 777 220.

Hi Cristina, thank you for sharing your experience. All our policies include waiting periods that apply to different types of conditions, and these can affect how a claim is assessed depending on timing.

Our team is here to discuss your claim further and provide more detail on how these apply to your situation, should you wish. Please give us a call on 1300 777 220. We're sorry we are unable to assist you with this claim.

Extremely disappointing.

Extremely disappointing.

Years of paying premiums, a new underwriting process, and now an emergency $12k surgery for my dog and RSPCA Pet has refused to cover it.

What exactly have I been paying for all these years?

Thousands of dollars in premiums and, when it mattered most, essentially no protection. An absolute waste of money in my experience.

Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. I certainly will be.

RSPCA Pet Insurance changed underwriter…

RSPCA Pet Insurance changed underwriter and I followed suit. The left hand doesn’t talk to the left hand - have now had two separate vets putting through claims to the wrong underwriter, but the previous underwriter doesn’t notify the new one - I cancelled a policy on my geriatric dog as a result of thinking she wasn’t covered, and now won’t be able to get her reinsured after a decade of insurance. Absolute disgrace, and the RSPCA should be ashamed of allowing their name to be associated with any of this. Rang up to resolve, was left on hold for quarter of an hour before the call was dropped at their end. Prior to this they’d increased my dog’s premium by $100 per month after moving to the Northern Beaches. The premiums were already ridiculous. Stay away from them.

If we could leave ZERO stars we would

If we could leave ZERO stars we would. We are shocked and disgusted at the recent rejection of our claim with RSPCA. We went to see our vet recently for our 2 year old doggie vomiting. The vet happened to check her teeth at the time and found some tartar build up, nothing serious. This was an incidental finding as she was not at all having any problems with her teeth. The purpose of our visit was to find out why our dog was vomiting. Because the vet included this tartar finding in his notes, the RSPCA decided this was the reason for our visit i.e. dental problem and refused our claim. We contacted them and the customer service agent advised they would review the rejection of our claim but it would take 15-30 days. We are considering lodging a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority if our claim continues to be rejected as we believe our claim has not been correctly assessed. This company should be fully investigated and requires Government intervention.

Hi Meg, thank you for raising this and we're sorry to hear about the experience you've had with your recent claim.

From your provided details, we've confirmed your policy is underwritten by our previous insurance partner, Hollard, PetSure.

Following our recent partnership change, claims assessment, review timeframes, and dispute processes for these policies are managed directly by Hollard (as the APRA registered insurer) and are outside of the RSPCA's control.

If you remain unsatisfied with the outcome of the review, you're within your rights to escalate to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) on 1800 931 678 or via afca.org.au, and PetSure's own complaints process.

Our team, now partnered with Pacific International Insurance, can support you on 1300 777 220 by explaining this recent change and helping you reach PetSure to help resolve this claim.
They can also help bring your policy to the new RSPCA Pet Insurance.

Have had insurance with RSPCA for the last 10.5 years for two dogs. They recently changed provider with no notifications and have removed a lot of inclusions and increased the premiums by over double. When making a recent claim of $450 they deemed they would only pay $15…. Our cover is for 80% of bill. Their claims team is an absolute joke, take weeks to reply, barely speak any English. All round turned into a terrible insurance company which is a shame as they used to be great.

Hi Jake, first of all, thank you for choosing to support the RSPCA for over 10 years. We know this change has caused a lot of confusion and frustration for our long time supporters, and we want to share as much information as we can about what has happened, and why.

You are correct, we did recently change underwriter partners. Our new partner, Pacific International Insurance, is the underwriter for all policies taken out after 1 April 2026.

For all policies held prior to 1 April 2026, they continue to be underwritten by the previous partner, Hollard, administered by PetSure. As these Hollard, PetSure underwritten policies come up for renewal, Hollard will offer to renew it under a non-RSPCA brand such as Buddy Pet Insurance or Real Pet Insurance. Your replacement policy will not be an RSPCA Pet Insurance product, and the RSPCA has no role in, and doesn't endorse, the replacement policy offered to you by Hollard.

Under the previous arrangement, communications with policyholders were managed by Hollard as part of its standard process as the APRA-registered insurer, which means the RSPCA does not have access to any customer information to inform you about the changes to your policy.

What we can do, however, is help bring you to the new, Pacific International Insurance underwritten, RSPCA Pet Insurance, and when you provide your active Certificate of Insurance (COI), we provide comparable cover from before your most recent renewal, including continued cover for conditions previously claimed for on your current policy.

Please contact our team on 1300 777 220.

Re: Followup of Duke's Claim - Yes they Paid the claim finally

Re: DUKE's Claim.
This is to follow up my former complaint with RSPCA which was resolved after a lengthy negotiation.
As promised, RSPCA did pay out Duke's EUTHENASIA Costs after many phone calls, vets' letters and extensive negotiations on my part all of which were harsh on my mental health following the death of a dear animal companion.
However it is the case that the claim was finally resolved. I can see their business is based on a common strategy of DENY, DEFEND, DELAY - which not only frustrates but also IS AN ANIMAL WELFARE ISSUE FOR THE PET.
PROBLEM with this company is that they TRADE ON THE COMMUNITY TRUST created by RENTING THE RSPCA name. However they are just another pet insurer who are UNDERWRITTEN by Hollards and they simply retail a product much the same as many others.
Duke suffered and survived Spider Bite in 2017 and they refused his bandaging saying it was beyond my sublimit even though it was part of the treatment and NOT a CONSULT. Additionally they refused Duke's breathing equipment whilst he was dying of lung cancer and I had to bug them.
Anyway - after much strenuous effort on my part they paid - however most staff were not compassionate and stuck to their sublimits.
I will follow through with Vetrinary authorities on these issues in order to save other animals and their owners the anguish we went through and the obvious ANIMAL WELFARE ISSUES.

Hi Maria, we are so sorry for the loss of Duke, and for everything you went through fighting for his care. We're glad to hear the claim was ultimately resolved.

As you mentioned, your policy was underwritten by Hollard. They are now the former insurance partner of RSPCA Pet Insurance, and since 1 April 2026, we are now underwritten by Pacific International Insurance.

While this does not improve your past experience, we'd like you to know the RSPCA selected our new underwriter based on how the product would support animal welfare and policyholder outcomes.

Together, we're committed to improving outcomes for pets, their owners, and inspiring a more caring community for all animals.

Our team is here to chat if we can be of any help, 1300 777 220.

No empathy, no compassion, should not be working with animals or people

3 conversations with their overseas call centre regarding my terminal dog.
The first call the rep suggested that she would require evidence that my dog was sick enough to put down- no empathy or compassion at all.
The second call was a couple of days after my dog had passed over night and I was trying to arrange to cancel the policy, I was once again met with no empathy, no compassion and a reluctance to cancel the policy. It was only after requesting to speak with a supervisor that "Lyn" was able to process the cancellation. I advised that I withdrew any further authorisation for them to access my bank account.
I have just spent another hour on the phone as they took more money from my account. Once again met with zero empathy.

Please note that the policy has increased from $88 per month 2023 to being $240 per month in 2026? No change in inclusions at all just "inflation"

If I could provide zero stars for this abomination of a company I would. 3 reps, 3 calls nearly 3 hours. Do not insure your fur babies through this company. Honestly the worst service I have ever received

Hi Joelene, thank you for sharing your details, and I'm sorry to hear what you've been through. We understand why you came to us.

On 1 April 2026, RSPCA Pet Insurance moved to a new underwriting partner. Policies taken out before that date remain with the previous provider, Hollard, administered by PetSure, and will continue to show the RSPCA name until they expire.
Based on the details you've shared, that's who holds your policy, and any changes to it need to go through them directly.

What you've described, a direct debit continuing after cancellation, is serious and you have every right to pursue it if you cannot get it resolved. AFCA offers free, independent dispute resolution and can investigate on your behalf: afca.org.au or 1800 931 678.
We're sorry we can't resolve this for you directly, and we hope AFCA can get it sorted quickly.

BEWARE of RSPCA pet insurance…

I will never insure my animals through RSPCA pet insurance again. Took out a policy on our new puppy, no injury or sickness history, he had an injury at 9months old and they denied the $2700 claim and used the excuse it was pre existing. Our vet provided his medical history and there are no records or sickness or injury only desexing and vaccinations yet they refused to honor the claim. Absolutely disgraceful. People beware of taking pur pet insurance with RSPCA

Hi Dan, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

There's recently been a partnership change at RSPCA Pet Insurance. Policies purchased before 1 April 2026 are underwritten by The Hollard Insurance Company, administered by PetSure, while policies purchased after this date are now offered in partnership with Pacific International Insurance.

We've looked to see if you have an active policy with us and have been unable to locate one under your username.

Based on this, it's likely your policy and claims experience is with the previous provider, PetSure. We'd encourage you to reach out to their team directly on 1300 881 492.

RSPCA is not worth the money

RSPCA is not worth the money after a couple of years with them. We had been with them since getting a puppy and our policy has more than doubled in 4years, they offer a cheap rate to start with, then it’s over 25% hike a year. You would be better off starting a savings account for the $2k annual that want to charge for a 4yr old dog, with just 80% rebates.

Hi Fiona, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We completely understand how frustrating premium increases can feel, especially after being with a provider for several years.

Just to clarify, there’s recently been a partnership change at RSPCA Pet Insurance. Policies purchased before 1 April 2026 are underwritten by The Hollard Insurance Company, administered by PetSure, while policies purchased after this date are now offered in partnership with Pacific International Insurance.

This new partnership was introduced to help make pet insurance more accessible for pet parents. As part of this, we now offer more customisable cover that can be tailored to suit your pet’s needs and your budget, while continuing to support the RSPCA’s animal welfare work.

We would love the opportunity to assist you and to ensure you are maximising value. Please could you call us on 1300 777 220 or respond directly and we will call you to assist.

In January we cancelled our insurance…

In January we cancelled our insurance with RSPCA - but a few days later our dog was limping and they allowed us to reinstate the policy. Nothing came of the limping but several months later (4 weeks ago now) we sadly lost our dog. A very difficult time for us.
RSPCA were compassionate throughout - genuinely - paid out close to £3500 - no quibbles just got in with it and paid out. Even paid for the cremation costs before we put claim in.

Phone was answered every time we called - no hanging about.

Highly recommend them - you get what you pay for and we were mightily pleased to be in their hands at a difficult time - superb service - well done and thank you. Jeremy

Cancelling the policy is painful

Similar to other reviews, cancelling the policy is very painful. They didn’t respond to my email to cancel so I called and arranged for my policy not to renew on 31 December. I received email confirmation. I then randomly received another email a few days later advising it would be cancelled on 15 December. I contacted them requesting they dont cancel it until 31 December as per my initial request not to renew the policy. This was then confirmed on email that the policy would run until 31 December and then not renew. I then unbelievably got an email a few days later saying the policy would auto renew on 31 December. Absolutely ridiculous.

Website useless and long wait on phones for overseas call centre

Waited 20 mins on the phone to ask 2 simple questions that the website was incapable of doing.
1. to add another pet to existing policy. How much?
2. How much to add optional extras (which I thought we were covered for - vaccinations and so on).
The person who answered then transferred to another phone and they could not tell me how much for either of the options but wanted a code and asked if I was using the same card for the transactions. Surely this is illegal?
We've hardly ever claimed as we have 3 young dogs. What are we paying money for?
As an addendum I got a call back from them following a complaint. When I complained about the call centre, was told that she can put a note on my cover to include being able to talk to someone in Australia. Like it’s a default that you wish 40 mins for a call centre to answer.
