Stayed last week, absolutely fantastic experience, friendly staff, good value clean and tidy, Nothing too much trouble for staff, George in the restaurant was excellent and really looked after us, great ambiance, thank you.
Just returned from at the Royal Hotel Whitby.
We were aware that the lift wasn't working but not that we would be walking into a building site at the hotel.
The refurb work going on is substantial and I think they should make customers aware of it as it is a large intrusion into the holiday.
Much of the work is being done in the hotel reception area as we walked in, and continued to the first floor where we were staying.
The holiday went well despite the work.
The hotel is in a lovely position and we were lucky to have a room (109) with a view over the sea, harbour and town.
The situation with the food and service was very hit and miss. The food, when it arrived at the table was good, no complaints, but the service and timing of the meals was erratic. Some people waited 40 minutes to get their starter, and some waited for 40 minutes to get their main course after the starter. The girls serving us were all working hard but the support from the kitchen was a problem.
Most people agreed that the new colour sceme was too dark and oppressive, but would need to see the finished product.
Overall we enjoyed the holiday, but would not go back until we were sure that all the work is complete.
I think when all the work is complete this could be an excellent hotel to stay at. Lovely position, tour bus stops outside so very useful.
This isnt a 3 star hotel - cant possibly be. it's under revovation wth work saws and drills going all day. We cvouldnt even speak to the receptionist because of the noise. There is no lift and 22 steps between each floor. many of the corridors are leaning sideways which makes you feel dizzy. In the restaurant they advertise gluten free pizza - as a coelliac i was keen to try that - it took 45 minutes for them to make what amounted to a cracker with some tomato and cheese thrown on it. you really should NOT advertise a gluten free pizza if you have no clue how to make a nice soft pizza with a good filling - it was pathetic. - For breakfast all you get is toast and cereal - no full english option even though they charge £20 for it. The dregs of coffee were all that was on offer and soggy toast as they need a new toaster.
The car park is charged even for guests at £6 a day - just like everyone in this rip off country i think they would charge you for the toilet if they could. Scaffolding covers the hotel right now at prime season and the rooms are full of dust - my advice, unless you like climbing stairs (read mountains) and like eating poor food, keep away from this dump
Beware of visiting this place.
No wonder the hotel's reviews are so poor with a manager that is happy to break the law and sell stolen goods.
They are blatantly selling prints of images they have stolen and are refusing to talk with the photographer whose work it is.
Ask yourself what other laws they may be breaking and shortcuts they may be taking with your health and safety.
