Rightmove uphold your home photos and refused to remove except you share your personal details with them

Field Palmer took photos in my home and listed via Rightmove in July 2025 for sale, I could see they were listed in Rightmove “Buy” section for viewing. I signed the listing agreement with Field Palmer there’s no progress in Dec 2025 so I asked Field Palmer to stop the advertisement including the photos listed publicly. Since me and my family is still living here, we don’t want to expose our interior home condition forever in the public. Field Palmer confirmed me that the advertisement and photos were off from the website. However, I checked and realised all those photos were delisted in “Buy” section but all appeared in “Sold” section. I’m the first owner of the property, the only sold transaction back in 2021 and it was empty when it was firstly sold to me. All these photos were not relevant to any “Sold” status of my current property but it’s my current home photos but being put in “sold” section by Rightmove without my consent. I request to delist them, Field Palmer pushed me t negotiate with Rightmove directly. Rightmove request me to provide personal details including driving licence, land registry, etc. to proof my ownership which I never being asked or gave them back in July 2025. I wonder the reason of me sharing my personal details including all my personal data with an agent Rightmove I didn’t deal with directly. I got their reply as below: I have written to Rightmove DPO (Data Protection Officer) but have no response. I’m going to ICO and seek further legal advice against this but I want to share this with you all. Rightmove will become proprietors and own all your photos and data your real estate agents assign to them. When you want them to remove any of that, they will ignore the real estate agents request which was the one who provided them the photos but Rightmove will request the property ownership to share their own personal details further with Rightmove which they should not have at the very beginning.

12/1 - Rightmove said I shared their staff email their staff wrote me back with her name stated which break their GDPR, but they posted all my current home photos attached to my home address clearly stated in Rightmove is not breaking my personal privacy nor GDPR. I now put abbreviation of their staff (customer service) at their request. Also I am going to talk to local police force about the risk of my current home address n photos being used without my consent n risk of causing burglary or home invasion.

As set out in our platform guidelines and terms, when Member Data is uploaded to our platforms, the ownership and data controller responsibilities are clearly defined. Specifically:

“When You (or Your Feed Provider on Your behalf) transfers Member Data to Rightmove, We will become proprietors and, if the Member Data is also personal data, data controllers of the copy of the Member Data uploaded to Our Platforms. To the extent necessary to give effect to this clause, when You upload the Member Data You assign to Us any title, rights or interest You may have in Our copy of the Member Data.”

In addition, responsibility for ensuring the lawful upload of images and content rests with the uploader:

“You must ensure that You have authority to upload images and content to the Platforms before You upload such images and content to the Platforms and You shall provide Us with evidence of Your ownership of the images and content promptly upon request.”

Property images, including photographs of a home’s interior or exterior, are not personal data in themselves unless they identify an individual. As such, the sharing of property images alone does not constitute a GDPR breach.

Re: reply from Rightmove
My question is did Rightmove request my identification document back in July 2026 when they listed my photos there to protect me by verifying it’s a real request from me? If not, how can they verify my personal id now with who n with which way? I want an advice from anyone who can comprehend this.
In addition, don’t mislead the public. The photos is my current home photos where I am living in, not “SOLD” property photo back in 2021 when the unit should be empty as it’s newly built. Rightmove use current photos in “for sale” section putting them in SOLD property section without anyone’s permission or consent. This is a fact.

Hi Fran,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

We understand your concern regarding the removal of your sold house prices images and listing information.

To proceed with the removal, we require a valid ID to confirm your identity. These requests are processed under the Right to be Forgotten, which can only be initiated by you, the data subject. Without valid identification, we cannot verify your request and cannot proceed with the removal. We have this process in place to protect you against anyone requesting removal maliciously.

Why can we not see the inside of empty properties anymore?

What I'm trying to say is.

Why can we not see the inside of the properties no more.

This helped with bidding so people do not waste time picking the wrong property so the right family can get it.

Also with the new policy in accepting or refusing a property rules.

All of this has families waiting for properties that's being review n rejected resulting in the property being put back into bidding system.
Right move was the only site that help us families to view inside out.
Now the site has removed it.

If I got it wrong then I do most apologies, however
I've searched different properties and you can not view the inside out no more.
It's just unfortunate.

Uploading a passport/driving licence should be kept to a minimum

You have no reason to upload anyone's passport. You are only an advertising platform! You are not protecting anyone by doing this. What compensation are you going to give for data breaches?
As an engineer who has spent over a decade building, breaking, and fixing systems that handle user data, that prompt doesn’t just feel invasive to me. It feels reckless. It’s a sign that I’m about to hand the digital keys to my life over to a system that I have zero visibility into, built by a team I don’t know, who are probably underpaid, overworked, and just trying to ship the next feature before their deadline.

And you, the user, are stuck. You just want to use the thing. Do you really have to trade a copy of your driver’s license for it?

Let me translate the corporate-speak for you. This surge in ID verification isn’t happening because companies suddenly developed a conscience about protecting. It boils down to two things: lawyers and liability.
And what does “robust” mean to a company that just wants to cover it? It means outsourcing the problem to the most stringent, high-friction method they can find: making you upload your passport. It’s not about what’s best for you; it’s about what their lawyers can point to in a courtroom and say, “See? We did the most we could.”
Okay, so you clicked “upload.” You snapped a photo of your license, the upload bar finished, and you moved on. Here’s what you didn’t see.
That image of your ID—with your full name, home address, date of birth, license number, and signature—is now a file, probably a jpeg or png, sitting on a server somewhere. And “somewhere” can get real sketchy, real fast
Most companies don’t build their own ID verification systems. Why would they? It’s a headache. Instead, they pay a few cents per check to a third-party service. So, your ID is immediately piped through an API to some other company you’ve never heard of. Now your data exists in at least two places. We once integrated a service like this, and their documentation was a mess. Their security posture? We basically had to take their word for it. Our product manager just cared that it was cheap and “worked.”
Your ID image might be sitting in an Amazon S3 bucket, a Google Cloud Storage folder, or some Azure blob. Was that bucket configured correctly? I’ve personally discovered production S3 buckets left publicly accessible more times than I care to admit. It’s one of the most common, and most devastating, security screw-ups. A single typo in a configuration file, and suddenly every ID is open to the entire internet.
We get so used to data breaches that we’ve become numb to them. “Oh, my email and password leaked from another service. I’ll just change my password.”
You can’t change your date of birth. You can’t easily change your driver’s license number. Once a criminal has that data, they have the “secret questions” to your entire life. They can try to open credit cards, file for unemployment in your name, or take out loans.
I have a friend who spent two years untangling his life after his identity was stolen from a much smaller breach than this. It wasn’t just the money. It was the hours on the phone with credit agencies, the constant paranoia, the feeling of being violated. The emotional toll is the part nobody talks about.

Unprofessional

I purchased a property in 2022 and the sold price was £725K but Rightmove have the sold price as £645K obviously being £80K less than I paid for it, I have endeavoured to get the correct information added including a copy of my Land Registry which trumps their information.
An Alicia Hamilton who is apparently a data quality executive refuses to remove the incorrect information, even though they have a copy of the true sale price stating as Alicia’s Quote;
“Because the record in our Best Price Guide does not constitute personal data we will continue to keep this property record in our system. I hope the above explains why and in what capacity property records are used and provides some reassurance to any concerns you may have.”

How could it possibly be reassuring for a person who is selling a property having data on Rightmove Plus showing such an incorrect under value sales price. Why wouldn’t any normal reasonable person agree that their website is incorrect when given the legal evidence to prove it, it’s not professional.

I am having issue in letting referencing which is very difficult to pass as per their team work because I think they are not highly trained they are just trainees and assessing things on their own without having complete information and every time you have to explain things to them that how to do it. And they don’t even wait for the specific time span to complete they want everything to be clear in one day and just don’t pass anyone’s referencing and just waste time.

Non-proficient computer users an inconvenience to Rightmove

Rightmove have changed their authentication process. Unfortunately as a 72 year old pensioner whilst I have 'had a go' and failed 5 times cannot access Rightmove via this new system. I have been advised by Rightmove it is to make it safe and accessible for everyone and 'sorry it is an inconvenience'.

Any other pensioners who don't have access to children or grandchildren for help and who are trying to move house and log into rightmove who are maybe not proficient on computers - we seem now to be an 'inconvenience to Rightmove'.
