My experience with N Brown Group / JD…

My experience with N Brown Group / JD Williams has been nothing short of shocking. I raised a formal irresponsible lending complaint and followed every step required under FCA rules — yet the company has completely ignored it.

Not a single acknowledgement.
Not a single response.
Not even a basic confirmation they received the complaint.

This is a blatant failure to follow FCA complaint-handling guidelines, which require firms to deal with complaints promptly, fairly, and within strict deadlines. N Brown Group has done the opposite — they’ve gone silent and hoped the issue would disappear.

I even escalated my concerns directly to senior directors and the company secretary, and astonishingly, they also ignored me. This level of disregard from upper management shows a company culture that simply doesn’t care about customers, financial responsibility, or regulatory obligations.

For a major lender to behave like this is unacceptable, unprofessional, and frankly disgraceful. Based on my experience, N Brown Group is not a company that treats customers fairly or follows the standards expected of them.

I strongly advise people to think twice before dealing with them.

If I could give a negative stars I…

If I could give negative stars I would. Customer service is non-existent, their South African call centre is populated by unwilling, rude, confrontational staff, who are unable to comprehend the most basic of issues. I am attempting to return items because of their errors and it is beyond belief the barriers they put up to stop you doing so.
Please, please do not use them, the have decided to become involved in a race to the bottom and have won the event by a distance. Poor, appalling, shoddy and woeful a few of the adjectives that are not strong enough to reflect what N Brown Group and all their companies stand for.

Bad quality goods, even worse customer service.

Bought a pair of boots for my wife for £65. She wore these for 2 weeks at work and they completely fell apart. I mean completely! Not only did the soles come away from 3 quarters of the boot, but the actual fabric itself was coming apart from itself. The patterned coating was separating from the base fabric all over, peeling off and breaking up, revealing a felt underlay.
I emailed the company who asked for them to be returned. I have since received a rude letter telling me because they are worn they wont be refunding and that this is the final decision. I am so annoyed as i told them they had been worn initially, and that this is clearly a manufacturing fault as i would not expect a £65 pair of shoes to fall apart to this extent, especially after only a fortnight of wear.
Please avoid this company and all their sub brands - JD Williams, Jacamo, Simply Be, Home Essentials, Ambrose Wilson, Fashion World, Marisota and Premier Man as clearly the quality of the goods is poor, and the customer service even worse.

So rude

I returned an item a couple of weeks ago.
To my surprise it arrived back on my doorstep today with a very rude note telling me that it has been refused as the item was worn and that their decision was final!
Aside from the fact that they have failed to comply with their own returns policy, I absolutely resent the accusation that I have tried to return a worn garment. I’ve never done so in my life!

Cheat customers on discounts. Fail to comprehend simplest of issues and drags out any firm of resolution.

Ordered earlier in year and was given a promotion of £15 off any order of £50 or more in March. I chatted with an agent before using the discount to explain I wanted 1 jacket- £58 full price so would be £43 after the discount…but needed to order 2 sizes to see which is best..would that be OK and they would apply the full £15 to the one jacket retained..they said yes. Placed an order of the 2 jackets and observed that they adjusted each Jacket by £7.50 ( half the £15 discount due) Having been assured it would all be adjusted one return of the second jacket I waited…it was not adjusted and I had been charged - bizzarely £50.52 fir One jacket? Got onto an agent, Jody, could not have been less helpful then cut me off! Got to a second agent…failed to understand/ comprehend and just repeated the jacket price is showing as £50.52! EVENTUALLY…he adjusted my balance by £7.50…. But actually some biz are 2p should have been removed too. Obstructive when asked for a manager to escalate to. Zero faith in this company. I am supposed to be a valued customer …just words and 30 years of loyalty means nothing to them.

Threatening

If I could give it less than one star I would. JD Williams threatened me with negative credit reports because they forgot to charge me £3.99 delivery and then added it after I had cleared my account in September. Complete nightmare of a company to deal with, obviously no clue of what Customer Service means. Steer clear!!

A trio of mail order disasters. Not worth one star...

The three companies I have the misfortune to deal with: Jacamo, Simply Be and J D Williams are absolutely disgraceful. I have had continual problems of overcharging for deliveries, missing goods, I have had to chase up. Poor customer service, now, I am awaiting a parcel, to be delivered through Exertis for DHL, which I had to order directly, and I can find no trace of what is happening. Writing to the company (Jacamo, this time), to try and find out why they have diverted items, which then Tesco refuse to accept for delivery, causing me much inconvenience, is pointless.

The catalogues are not even that competitive, compared to others, such as Freemans, so I just wan to pay them off, and be free of their incompetence.

However, I am not paying for headphones I have not received, so here I go, again, to talk to some incompetent, and follow this up, in writing, to get the goods cancel, purchase from a more reputable outfit.

AVOID N Brown Grp PLC Brands .....

N Brown Grp PLC Brands inc : Home Essentials, Jacomo, Simple Be, JD Williams, Ambrose Wilson.

I have had the most appalling customer service from the brand Home Essentials after purchasing a fridge freezer which was faulty within a month of purchase. Each member of staff that i have either spoken to directly or by email have either been rude or lied about collecting the fridge freezer and arranging for a refund. I have contacted the CEO Steve Johnson and received not a courtesy of a reply. I purchased another fridge freezer from a more reputable organisation, based upon HE's advice that they would be collecting the fridge freezer within 48 hours and arranging a full refund. I have not got 2 fridge freezers in my very small kitchen awaiting a reply and refund. If you wish to have your money taken, supplied with faulty goods and spoken to extremely rudely by customer service, then feel free to buy from any of the brands listed above, otherwise avoid!!
