Very enjoyable cruise on the MSC Virtuosa. Good itinerary visiting Iceland and Norway. Good food and excellent shows. The ship is immaculately clean. On the negative side there is a lack of bars and... See more

The cruise overall was excellent, the staff were great. However, we had a significant issue at Juneau which majorly detracted from the entire experience and left us c.£100 out of pocket and having no opportunity to actually see Juneau.
All information pre and initially during the cruise stated 1400 arrival at Juneau, departure 2200 with no mention of a tender service. However, upon arrival to the port it was stated to be a tender service (notified the evening prior). We had a tour booked for 1515, a whale watching and glacier tour, this was booked to allow "buffer" of arrival, allow time to see Juneau and finishing at 1815 it would have allowed time to see Juneau upon return from the tour. However, due to the tender service this was not possible and we missed our tour. We were initially booked for a 1540 tender and it took significant and repeated complaint to be brought forward to the first 1500 tender, which we were reassured would get us in on time with liaison with the tour provider who agreed to wait until 1530. Due to the incredibly significant delays of the tender service, we still did not arrive into Juneau until 1605 and this was with the first tender group, the majority of guests did not get off until c.1700. This meant we completely missed our trip. As a result of the good nature of the tour provider, we were transferred to a later booking, however due to having to be back for the last tender at 2000, we were not able to participate in the glacier tour element. This means we were effectively c.£100 out of pocket of the price difference between the two tours (+ glacier tour or not). In addition to this, due to the time lost with tendering, we had no time in Juneau itself atall, which should have been the highlight destination.
This service in itself is unacceptable but of greater issue is the complete lack of messaging which lead to this problem. I struggle to believe that MSC were not aware it was a tender service and that timings would not be as advertised 1400 to 2200. This is completely disingenuous false advertising. On getting the tender at 1500 we were in the first group to disembark. The majority were not off until 1700 and later and had to return 2000 for the last tender. It appears that MSC are falsely advertising Juneau as 14-2200, knowing that if it were honest about the realistic timings due to a tender requirement of only c.1700 to 2000 that customers would not elect for this cruise given that Juneau is supposed to be the pinnacle destination.
Overall this single but major issue significantly detracted from the cruise and left us £100 out of pocket.

Plenty of great facilities and fun for the family but too many guests during busy seasons means buffet meals and swimming are noisy and uncomfortable.

Definitely recommend MSC. I was on their Norwegian Fjords cruise on MSC Euribia. The view and scenes of the fjords are astonishly beautiful. The cruise fee charged by MSC are highly competitive and really worth it for such a fantastic trip. Would definitely recommend a balcony room especially for this trip.

The room staff and facilities were great, the restaurant staff should have the power to tell parents to control there children when having a meal as next to us they were wandering climbing on tables and chairs. Also nobody should be allowed to walk around in pyjamas so disrespectful, horrible to see in the buffet room. All in all a fantastic experience

Please drop to the bottom of this review for an update on MSC's complete disregard for passengers hygiene concerns. Just don't book with MSC
I was served RAW Pork in the main restaurant, which was quickly taken away and was asked if I wanted anything else, which I declined and complained to Guest Services. I was fobbed off for 3 days with, "we are looking in to it"
Clearly they wanted me off the ship so not to make a fuss. I have reached out to MSC on Thier review survey, but doubt I will be contacted. Respond to this review if you have has a similar experience and perhaps we can get health inspectors onto the ship so it doesn't happen to anyone else
I am now going to guess MSC's response " Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We regret to hear of your disappointment and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your feedback will be passed to our teams to help us deliver a better experience for our future guests."
Come on MSC, let's open some dialogue on this, don't just trot out the corporate response, it doesn't show a true caring company and perhaps gives readers an expectation on what to expect on thier cruise.
Just an update on this complaint. MSC have decided to rebutt the serious incident. That have misrepresented the actual events when the initial complaint was made on the ship, and consider rejecting reasonable and suitable recompense requested, after asking what would make it better, as standard protocol. I have given MSC a chance to redress the issue, but they have dismissed the opportunity.
So I have to state to any potential cruise passengers for MSC, think again. Culinary hygiene is scandalous, and be prepared for sub standard food, inappropriately cooked, and should you have the audacity to complain, will not be listened too, and brushed off, very delaying tactics to string out a response until you disembark and it is handed over to the land based customer service.
Do not consider MSC as a cruise line. Hygiene standards are very low and MSC don't care.
This is not just sour grapes, it is a valid recommendation from an experienced Cruiser, do not trust MSC with your best health interests at heart. Book with another Cruise Line.

Behaviour of Main dining room seating manager and his staff, very unprofessional and rude with unacceptable attitude

We choose the cruise based upon the itinerary, the experience was mixed with generally good food and pleasent staff. MSC pushes the extras which can add-up during the voyage. I would recommend having the premium drinks package if you want more than just the standard drinks.
