Serious problems with MBNA
Oh, I wish I had read these reviews before taking out an MBNA credit card! I've had the card for two weeks. I attempted to make an online purchase. It was refused without any error message. I tried different devices, different browsers, and Apple Pay. All were declined. I called the retailer. We tried different approaches, checked with 3dsecure. All still declined.
I had no text from MBNA; no phone calls, no emails, no notifications in the app. I called MBNA and learned that there was a fraud block on my card. I was put through to the fraud team. The outcome of a 30 minute call was that they could do nothing about it. I would have to wait 48 business hours to be called back by someone from fraud, which might be next week since today is Thursday,
I said that I wanted to register a complaint. I was told that there is no complaint team. She can write up a complaint if I like, but it means nothing, no one will look at it.
I experienced a card block with no explanation, no notifications, no resolution, and no recourse.
Absolute trash service
Try to open app. Fails to open. Try to log into website. Rejects correct password. Try to reset password. Sends code via SMS. Call number to confirm code. Asks for four digit number - code is six digits. Locks me out of account for too many password attempts. I have literally no way of accessing my account. This company is a disgrace.
0% purchase card not for full 24 months
There 0% interest free credit card is not like other ones from people like natwest or barclays, you have to purchase within the first 60 days else you get charged interest, I got this card assuming they were the same as other companys to purchase a bathroom and pay off over the 24 months but have now been charged high amounts of interest the last two months and I still have over a year left of the interest free time, put in a complaint and no decent resolutions have been done to rectify this so far, but wanted to warn other customer incase you get missold this credit card as I got this through clearscore app thinking it was like others where you can purchase anytime throughout in the 24 months timeline
Don’t bother with extra’s so much small print!!
Took out their Buildings and Contents insurance paying extra to include an ‘E’ bike as we used it when away for weekends.
It wasn’t until after the bike was stolen from the awning while we were sleeping that they reminded of the small print :
Bikes are covered at your home. They’re also covered whilst they are temporarily away from your home. You must take reasonable care of your bikes when they’re away from your home.(kept in the awning) For example, you and your family should keep them with you and in your control. (Less than six feet away) You or your family should make sure they’re locked to something fixed when they are not with you. (It would have been insured if I would have locked it up to the cycle racks outside the apartments in the next field).
Honestly, I’ve never claimed before and when you think you’ve got it covered they come up with that!!
Quick to take your money ESPECIALLY FOR EXTRA’s but isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
Very poor service indeed
Very poor service indeed. Always pay credit card in full on time. On this one occasion when I attempted to buy a more expensive product, they initially sent me a confirmation code to my phone to verify I was the one making the payment. I put in the code to confirm I had received it and was the one making the purchase. (BTW the payment was well inside my credit limit). Ten minutes later I had an email from the vendor telling me the order had been cancelled. I tried to get an explanation from MBNA (using their palpably useless and not fit-for-purpose AI respondent which constantly got stuck in a loop asking pointless and irrelevant questions). This was eventually clever enough to tell me the card had been blocked. No attempt to give an explanation, answer or indeed an apology. The AI bot then advised me to ring an operator - which I ought to have done in the first place. Needless to say when I got through there was an excessively long wait time and they tried to assuage me with the usual claptrap about there being unusually heavy call traffic (I feel sure ringing at any time there would, without doubt, be very heavy traffic - trying employing more staff (!) I gave up on the call thinking I may be dead before they answered. Needless to say I will not br using them again
Disgusting behaviour
Loyal customer with no adverse credit
Always paid on time and under limit
Stable full time work and income
Had my limit reduced with no notification
Talk about good customer service
Mr M Evans
Say away I’m lost for words with MBNA
Never claim home insurance for 15+ years and I went with these cowboys my goodness never seen in such my life incompetence on every aspect of trying to get it sorted in the end. I withdrew the claim and sorted it myself because they took that long and dealing with it. Communication zero chasing up getting help zero if anybody reads this stay well clear of MBNA in home insurance!!!!!!!!
Despicable company
Despicable company, take your money and then upon legitimate claim have no sympathy, treat you like a criminal and then rule in their own favour without even the courtesy of an investigation. Breach their own rules by not responding in a timely fashion and then preside over their own case like judge, jury and executioner. Zero customer service, hold their customers in total contempt despite the money volunteered to them paying for their wages and profit. Not interested in helping, deplorable customer service and an absolute disgrace. Do not go near them for home insurance or any other product if they hold the same disregard for their customers with other products. Had to chase them for outcomes, zero communication inbound other than to be dismissive and rude during a customers genuine moment of need. Paid home insurance for years, never needed to claim until washing machine exploded. They didn't even want to send someone round to see the house or offer any remorse as it was too much hassle, but happily took the next direct debit payment the very next day. Absolute pond life.
Poor Customer Service
Poor Customer Service.
Held a policy for over a year and after moving I tried to update my policy with the new address.
The websites chatbot after three attempts to obtain contact information, could not help me and refused on all three occasions to put me through to a human agent, failing to provide any contact details as an alternative means of contact. The chatbot sent a link that put me back to where I started before being forced to deal with the chatbot, even after requesting a callback.
Making contact for something as foreseeable and simple as updating address details should never be this difficult.
My only redress (unless this review prompts contact from real living breathing person) is to cancel my policy and start again.
My advice is consider other providers, if obtaining contact for a simple address change is this difficult I wince at the thought of ever needing to make a claim.

Gotta be the worst credit card I’ve ever applied for, sent the card activated the account but the card never worked then decided to close the account without my permission. Reported to FCA
AWFUL customer service
AWFUL customer service. Blocked my card unexpectedly, and I cannot get to speak to a human to sort it out - all initial engagement is via a very limited bot. Very long waits on the phone, and they dont offer a call back service. I will be changing provider.
Can't contact to pay off a loan
I'm trying to pay off a loan with MBNA/Lloyds. First of all the app says I'm using the wrong log in and password but I can access the website with said login and password. Then the website says I can't pay off my loan online because I don't have a Lloyds current acct. I need to phone. Phone number on the website is invalid. Found a number phoned them stupid automated security questions. Put on hold for 15 mins no answer. And the hold is not even music it's a ringtone. Other option is going to a branch and paying by CASH or CHEQUE. I don't have that option as my bank is an online bank. Never touching MBNA again.
Forgot details to my online banking
Forgot details to my online banking. Have to wait for a code to be sent by post to be able to try to access it again. I made a complaint about the issues I was having to them generally. They send me a message to my online banking something which I cannot access and forms the whole basis of the complaint along with not being able to add my card to Google Wallet without contacting them. Shows they do not listen to their customers when they contact them. No point in phoning them as tried this and the wait times were long. This is after you get through the ridiculous length of automated messages. I have other credit cards that I will certainly be looking to use as my main cards now due to how frustrating dealing with MBNA is. Not had this level of issues with any other bank. MBNA do not make anything easy.
This lot are in the dark ages or just…
This lot are in the dark ages or just want to make it so difficult you no longer want their credit card. 3 pieces of ID to be signed off by a solicitor lol !!! Never heard of anything so daft ! I am in financial services myself ! Used another issuer. Card agreed, account opened in 5 mins.
The worst experience consistently from…
The worst experience consistently from a so called international provider. They might draw you in with credit transfer gloss, but they blocked my card so many times could rely on it and today, not first time, taken over 2 hours to get it unblocked
Complete shambles from start to finish
Complete shambles from start to finish. There web site is a joke. You can't even get on the app with out ringing up, the it is the worst I've ever seen. You can save the password or the enter button is on a part of the screen you can't scroll down to see. So you can get in the app.
Worse bank around.
Absolute joke
Absolute joke. Transferred balances the app wouldn't work.
I don't do buisness with companies that don't provide fluid communications with my finances.
Took out a loan with another company to get this closed in a matter of hours.
Phoned to close the account, paid the balance was put through to closure department and nobody could hear me.
Don't waste your time here it's a
Terrible services
The people are nice enough on the phone but the systems are diabolical.
If I can't access the app or speak to Customer services I can't close the account.
Shortest financial relationship I've ever had.
I have received terrible customer…
I have received terrible customer service from mbna home insurance. I had to have the locks changed on my house to secure it and they refused to pay the cost. Apparently I was only covered if I’d lost my keys!! Don’t go near this insurer, they are heartless.
Would give ZERO if at all possible
I wont waste a lot of time writing how bad my experience was, as this seems to be covered in all the other 1 star reviews on here. All I will say, is that their customer service team on my call today were some of the worst customer service staff I have ever encountered. A big problem is a guy called "Herbert"... He should not be anywhere near a customer facing role.
Promises on Paper, Silence in Practice.
MBNA's customer commitments appear to be nothing more than words.
I raised a formal complaint months ago and, to this day, MBNA hasn't even acknowledged receiving it. Not investigated it. Not responded to it. Not even the basic courtesy of confirming it was received.
For a financial services company that publicly talks about treating customers fairly, being transparent and putting customers first, this experience has been the complete opposite.
If your own complaint process starts with silence, what confidence should customers have that you genuinely stand behind your values?
Ignoring a complaint for months isn't just poor customer service, it's a failure of basic customer care and accountability.
It gives the impression that once there's a problem, MBNA would rather ignore it than deal with it.
I'm now left questioning whether MBNA's customer commitments are genuine standards they work to, or simply statements that look good on a website.
I expected professionalism, communication and respect. Instead, I've received nothing but silence.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering MBNA to think carefully before choosing them. If this is how they treat customers when something goes wrong, it's deeply disappointing
