Absolutely disgraceful customer service
Absolutely disgraceful customer service.
I contacted the company simply to discuss my renewal quote and see whether they could offer a more competitive price. Instead of receiving help, I was suddenly told that there were "changes" that needed to be made to my existing policy, which would cost me an additional £280.
What happened next was even worse. I was effectively told that I had two choices: pay the extra £280 or have my policy cancelled, despite it being only 15 days away from its natural expiry date. It felt like I was being cornered into paying an unreasonable amount with no meaningful explanation or flexibility.
The timing and manner in which this was handled left me feeling that the company was looking for ways to extract more money from an existing customer rather than provide fair and transparent service. What should have been a simple conversation about renewal turned into a stressful and frustrating experience involving pressure tactics and threats of cancellation.
I have never experienced anything like this from an insurer. Instead of rewarding customer loyalty, they appear more interested in finding opportunities to increase charges at the last minute and put customers in an impossible position.
The entire experience has completely destroyed my confidence in this company. If you value transparency, fairness, and honest customer service, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I certainly will be.

Unhelpful and rude
I got a quote online and before proceeding I called them to ask a question regarding my licence. It took them over 5 minutes to pick up the phone.
The guy on the phone was so incredibly rude it put me off straight away.
What he said also made zero sense.
I passed my test in an automatic 24 years ago, I got my manual licence 10 years ago.
They say my licence only counts from the second test even though the vehicle i drive is automatic and i have been legally driving for 24 years! I have 14 years no claims so how does that work out. Its also the opposite of what Direct Line say.
Any excuse to be awkward and unhelpful. AVOID
After asking AI to help me with this is what it said (Its not previously been a problem for me)
The Licence "Reset" Myth
In the UK, when you pass a manual test after already holding an automatic licence, your Category B (Car) entitlement is simply upgraded.
The Fact: You have held a "Full UK Licence" for 24 years. The Confusion: On the back of your driving licence photocard, Column 10 (the "Valid From" date) for Category B will likely have been updated to the date of your manual test (10 years ago). The Reality: Poorly trained call center staff look at that one date and ignore your history. However, you were legally licensed to drive Category B vehicles (automatics) for 14 years prior to that. Direct Line is correct; most reputable insurers count the total time you have held a full licence, regardless of the transmission type.

Bought insure to drive this year had no problems easy to do very happy 😁
Very easy aand cheap to insure.
Useless company
Useless company. They ask for the most ridiculous things after taking payment. And if you are unable to provide them they cancel your policy. Not only cancel but charge an administration fee 2 days after taking the policy out. And keep in mind the actual policy start date isn’t until another 3 weeks.
Unfair practicing, not sure how this is even allowed. So if you’re taking out policy with this company. Ensure you have the 8 different requirements they ask for & also make sure you can trust them if there is a claim.
